We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable feature is the ability to look for any increases in bandwidth over time so that we can plan before it becomes critical.""SolarWinds has improved our organization because whenever a device is down, we get an alert.""I would rate NetFlow Traffic Analyzer's stability ten out of ten.""The monitoring is perfect, showing you the details for the utilization of resources and network bandwidth.""With SolarWinds, we are now able to accurately gauge bandwidth consumption.""The software management tools are very useful for our customers.""I like that it is able to monitor multiple devices and it's vendor-agnostic.""The dashboard alerts me when a critical device goes off the network."

"I have found that the reporting feature in Zabbix is most valuable. Additionally, the solution has given us bandwidth options, we are able to see where problems are. For example, we noticed a problem that occurred because of a bad interface going in the wireless VLAN.""They've already added extra features, such as noise-canceling and facial recognition, which is great.""It has an intuitive UI with beautiful graphs and customizable maps.""Zabbix can use old data to current data to set the threshold. We can use previous data to set the threshold.""The initial setup, while not simple, is easier than other products.""Zabbix helps to save time.""The pricing of the product is reasonable.""I'm supervising all the IT departments, and Zabbix seems quite good for them. It provides graphics and information in real time. We get alerts about crashes on the system, enabling us to quickly repair issues. We can easily find devices with problems."

Cons
"It can be complex to set up and configure.""The problem is that SolarWinds is trying to bolt in too much and that can leave bugs, which you have to then sort out, leaving the product unstable. SolarWinds needs to try and slow down and improve the stability of the product, as opposed to bringing out more and more features.""There is room for improvement when it comes to the traffic generated by the analyzer and the analysis of that traffic.""It's not a cheap product, so the pricing could be improved.""The solution needs better log management and log coordination with tools.""There are some areas for improvement in SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer. There are some challenges with the solution when compared to other monitoring tools such as difficulty in operations and difficulty with backup installation. My team is currently trying out different solutions but would need to see how it goes.""It is a scalable solution, but it is costly to scale. Therefore, I would rate scalability at eight out of ten.""The pricing is expensive."

More SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer Cons →

"One of the things we don't like is that Zabbix has a license structure with a price that is high compared to the competition. It's very high, for example, compared to something like Microsoft Teams.""If Zabbix had a better dashboard then it would be nice.""Implementation is always tailored to the customer and the kind of information we need from the client to carry it out can make them very uncomfortable. Sometimes the clients are not ready to share it.""We would like to monitor other touchpoints such as ATM machines. It would be great if it can provide monitoring of ATM machines. Compatibility with other products would also be great.""The reports are not great and should be improved.""I would like to remotely connect to the computer, and Zabbix doesn't have this capability.""Look and feel.""It would be helpful if they translated the documentation to Cyrillic languages."

Pricing and Cost Advice

  • "Pricing for SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer is very high. I have a customer that needs the solution but doesn't have the budget for SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer because the problem is that you can't use the solution only. You have to buy requirements such as the SolarWinds NPM first, and some companies don't have the budget for all the required components and modules. SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer can cost up to $10,000, and some customers don't have that budget. Another product has all the modules that SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer has, with a very low price, that can be a replacement, which is ManageEngine NetFlow Analyzer. PRTG is another solution that can replace SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer."

I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want using these, but they require quite some expertise before you can use them. Then there are the ones that are not open source, the enterprise softwares and cost you some money, but on the other hand, they are extremely easy to set-up and learn. You can have them up and running in a matter of minutes. And then there are those which are completely cloud based. They can be free of cost or charge some money depending on the software. The good thing about these is that you don’t have to install any extra software, and it can be managed completely online but then again these have limited features and you cannot exploit them to the full extent as you can do with the open-source and to some extent the enterprise software, so I won’t suggest you to use these, because these are generally not the complete solutions and require other support software to achieve the same. Below I have listed the outstanding pros and cons of the various Network analyzers that you can look into Nagios Pros: Nagios offers an extensive set of collector plug-ins that allows users to gather performance and availability data from a broad range of operating systems, including  Windows and Netware Nagios… Read more →
