We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"By using QualysGuard, we are able to finish external scans with assured results in half the time.""This product is designed for easy scalability and can easily scale up without major challenges.""With our vulnerabilities under control, it's putting our services in compliance and minimizing our risk for exposure.""It combines both web application vulnerability management and internal vulnerability management on one platform and dashboard. Usually, you have to purchase separate tools.""It is a good product for website penetration testing to detect vulnerabilities.""I have found the detection of vulnerabilities tool thorough with good results and the graphical display output to be wonderful and full of colors. It allows many types of outputs, such as bar and chart previews.""Key features include: Cloud-based, so the installation is not so tedious. Easily deployed. Highly scalable. Comprehensive reporting.""The most valuable feature is that we are able to scan the services and put credentials like a user ID password. We can verify the vulnerability level."

"We consider it a handy tool that helps to resolve our issues immediately.""We have worked with the support from SonarQube and we have had good experiences.""I like the by-default policies that are they, as they seem to cover most of what I need.""This has improved our organization because it has helped to find Security Vulnerabilities.""The solution can verify vulnerabilities, code smells, and hotspots. It makes the software more secure and it helps make a junior or novice developer sharper.""This solution is simple to use and can be quickly deployed.""The fact that the solution does security scanning is valuable.""The solution has a wide variety of features and an open-source community that you are able to learn Java, JavaScript, or any other programing language."

Cons
"The pricing does not seem to be competitive.""Sometimes the response time is low because the handshake fails, and then you have to re-login and start again.""Qualys Web Application Scanning is very complex to use, and its graphical interface is not very user-friendly.""The solution needs to adjust its pricing. They should make it more affordable.""In terms of the Policy Compliance model which they currently have, not all the platforms are being covered. If they could improve on the Policy Compliance model, since there are policies which are benchmarked against it, this will be helpful for us.""The virus code updates are not frequent enough.""Deployment can be complicated.""The UI is not user-friendly and you don't have a yearly reporting facility where you can slice and dice in different jobs."

"SonarQube could be improved by implementing inter-procedural code analysis capabilities, allowing for a more comprehensive detection of defects and vulnerabilities across the entire codebase.""A little bit more emphasis on security and a bit more security scanning features would be nice.""SonarQube could be improved with more dynamic testing—basically, now, it's a static code analysis scan. For example, when the developer writes the code and does the corresponding unit test, he can cover functional and non-functional. So the SonarQube could be improved by helping to execute unit tests and test dynamically, using various parameters, and to help detect any vulnerabilities. Currently, it'll just give the test case and say whether it passes or fails—it won't give you any other input or dynamic testing. They could use artificial intelligence to build a feature that would help developers identify and fix issues in the early stages, which would help us deliver the product and reduce costs. Another area with room for improvement is in regard to automating things, since the process currently needs to be done manually.""I find it is light on the security side.""This is a well-rounded solution, however, some features could be made available on the free version. The price of the solution could be reduced.""The product needs to integrate other security tools for security scanning.""We have tens of millions of code to be analyzed and processed. There can be some performance degradation if we are applying Sonar Link to large code or code that is complex. When the code had to be analyzed is when we ran into the main issues. There were several routines involved to solve those performance issues but this process should be improved.""There is no automation. You need to put the code there and test. You then pull the results and put them back in the development environment. There is no integration with the development environment. We would like it to be integrated with our development environment, which is basically the CI/CD pipeline or the IDE that we have."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It is best to be an institutional buyer and directly contact the sales team, as they can provide over-the-top discounts for bulk orders."
  • "Try the free trial of the product to understand the basic working mechanisms."
  • "Qualys has an IT-based licensing based on a yearly license, which is a good way of handling it. However, in some cases, when we do the PCI scanning, the host will not like the scanning and we lose the IT license. So, this could be improved."
  • "Licensing was based on the number of assets that you want to scan on your network. You can also do licensing on subscription. On subscription, it is easier and more flexible. You tell Qualys that you want to move from the 1000 to 2000 band or the 3000 or 5000 band, then they will give you the quotation for it. Once you pay for it, applying the licensing is quite easy and effective."
  • "Pricing was reasonable and competitive. It was not too far above the other products."
  • "The product is expensive, at least initially, in comparison to other products in this category."
  • "There are different options available with respect to licensing."
  • "The cost is $30,000 USD for one year to cover WAS (Web Application Security) and the VM (Virtual Machine) security in a company with 200 employees."

  • "This is open source."
  • "We did not purchase a license (required for C++ support), but this option was considered."
  • "Get the paid version which allows the customized dashboard and provides technical support."
  • "People can try the free licenses and later can seek buying plugins/support, etc. once they started liking it."
  • "This product is open source and very convenient."
  • "The licence is standard open source licensing"
  • "The price point on SonarQube is good."

    Reviews from Real Users

Qualys Web Application Scanning stands out among its competitors for a variety of reasons. Two of those reasons are its progressive scan and quick detection of vulnerabilities.

P.K., a senior software developer at a tech vendor, writes, "The feature that I have found most valuable is the progressive scan. It is good. It's done in 24 hours."

Nagaraj S., lead cybersecurity engineer at a tech service company, notes, "I have found the detection of vulnerabilities tool thorough with good results and the graphical display output to be wonderful and full of colors. It allows many types of outputs, such as bar and chart previews."
