We performed a comparison between Qualys Web Application Scanning and SonarQube based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Application Security Tools solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."By using QualysGuard, we are able to finish external scans with assured results in half the time."
"It is a good product for website penetration testing to detect vulnerabilities."
"Qualys Web Application Scanning has multiple features like threat protection and container security scanning in one box."
"The Qualys Web Application Scanning solution offers a single comprehensive console and consolidated reporting, covering all aspects from on-prem to cloud and compliance, etcetera."
"Key features include: Cloud-based, so the installation is not so tedious. Easily deployed. Highly scalable. Comprehensive reporting."
"The product prevents possible vulnerabilities in our network."
"Its most valuable features are patch management, vulnerability management, and PCI compliance."
"It is a cloud-based solution, so it is easy to scale."
"SonarQube is a fantastic tool which saves us precious time."
"Can tweak rules and feed them into our build pipelines."
"SonarQube is good in terms of code review and to report on basic vulnerabilities in your applications."
"One of the most valuable features of SonarQube is its ability to detect code quality during development. There are rules that define various technologies—Java, C#, Python, everything—and these rules declare the coding standards and code quality. With SonarQube, everything is detectable during the time of development and continuous integration, which is an advantage. SonarQube also has a Quality Gate, where the code should reach 85%. Below that, the code cannot be promoted to a further environment, it should be in a development environment only. So the checks are there, and SonarQube will provide that increase. It also provides suggestions on how the code can be fixed and methods of going about this, without allowing hackers to exploit the code. Another valuable feature is that it is tightly integrated with third-party tools. For example, we can see the SonarQube metrics in Bitbucket, the code repository. Once I raise the full request, the developer, team lead, or even the delivery lead can see the code quality metrics of the deliverable so that they can make a decision. SonarQube will also cover all of the top OWASP vulnerabilities, however it doesn't have penetration testing or hacker testing. We use other tools, like Checkmarx, to do penetration testing from the outside."
"We have worked with the support from SonarQube and we have had good experiences."
"The most valuable feature of SonarQube I have found to be the configuration that has allowed us to can make adjusts to the demands of the code review. It gives a specified classification regarding the skill, prioritization, and it is easy for me to review and make my code."
"I like that it helps us maintain our work quality and code security."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is that it is free."
"The support could be faster."
"The scanner reports a lot of false positives, which is something that needs to be improved."
"When comparing this solution to Veracode, Veracode has good interactive features and gives a clear understanding of what the vulnerabilities are, which error line of the vulnerability is on and what can be done. It gives interactive features, whereas this solution does not give a clear understanding of where or how to fix the problem."
"There's a distinction between internal and external scanning processes that could be streamlined. Currently, for internal scanning, specific configurations and scanner appliances need to be deployed within the network, which differs from the simpler setup for external scans. This dual process complicates the setup for comprehensive scanning coverage."
"The product's pricing could be better."
"The software’s pricing could be improved."
"The solution needs to adjust its pricing. They should make it more affordable."
"We receive false positives sometimes when using a solution that could be improved. However, the technical team provides us with the exact explanation why it was giving us that kind of error."
"An improvement is with false positives. Sometimes the tool can say there is an issue in your code but, really, you have to do things in a certain way due to external dependencies, and I think it's very hard to indicate this is the case."
"You may need to purchase add-ons to get the useability you desire."
"One thing to improve would be the integration. There is a steep learning curve to get it integrated."
"It requires advanced heuristics to recognize more complex constructs that could be disregarded as issues."
"SonarQube is not development-centric like Snyk."
"I would like to see more options for security, beyond the basics like SQL injection."
"We found a solution with dynamic testing, and are looking to find a solution that can be used for both types of testing."
"I find it is light on the security side."
