Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The product is very straightforward and very easy to use from the client-side.""Veeam ONE effectively centralizes the view of different tools.""Veeam ONE is the best and the most mature solution for hypervisors and physical machines.""I like the tool's backup.""Veeam One is a centralized management and centralized reporting tool. The tool has supportive infrastructure to create specialised applications and some server application. You can add all the resources and infrastructure. You will get the reports, can easily manage and monitor any feature.""Setting up Veeam is easy, and it's portable, too.""Storage gateway feature is very flexible.""I don't have to go back and forth between different applications to get the report I need."

"Technical support is very good. They are very helpful.""The solution is also very simple and efficient to manage. Features that have made it simple and easy to manage include the newer VAMI for the V-center appliance, it's very easy to see what version we are at, and very easy to upgrade to the next version. The fact that we can now use VCHA at the appliance level just decreases our chance of having an outage because so many of our customers rely on the API interface for V-center.""The solution allows for very good virtualization.""The fact that you can use all the CPU and memory power that the server can provide is most valuable. In a physical server, you might end up not using all the physical resources. There are a lot of benefits, such as flexibility and mobility, in virtualizing computes.""The most valuable feature would be enhanced, what we call, Linked Mode to link our disaster recovery site to our primary site across different vCenters, without being required to be broken apart. Meaning, we have identity management and the actual vCenter servers split. We can actually do embedded now, thanks to vSphere 6.7.""Provides good backup to our servers.""It helps us with TCO.""It is highly scalable. We need to scale out and up, and we can do that with vSphere. We can easily add more storage, drives, or memory."

Cons
"The solution is not very good at backing up the physical Linux systems.""There is a lot of information, so maybe the dashboards could consolidate it.""I am highly dissatisfied with their customer support approach.""The support, reporting part and customization should all be improved.""Veeam ONE should make available notifications through SMS.""The reports are basic and not customizable, making it challenging to get detailed insights.""In future releases, I would like to see more automation capabilities. It could integrate with automation services to automatically resolve identified issues rather than simply providing instructions to the user.""I think Veeam ONE should be included in the base product instead of as an add-on because customers tend to look for simple solutions that are integrated."

More Veeam ONE Cons →

"Given that I've been using version seven, it seems that some of the bugs I faced during that version have already been addressed in subsequent updates. Although I haven't personally tested them yet, it appears that these issues have been resolved. In version seven, there was a problem with the network interface not responding due to certain configurations not being properly filtered. However, in version eight, this requirement has been minimized, so the mentioned bug is less likely to occur. Instead of solely addressing these fixes in newer versions, it might be beneficial for them to consider applying these improvements to the older versions as well. This approach could prevent users from feeling compelled to upgrade to version eight solely to avoid encountering the issue, and instead provide updates for version seven users.""Here in Egypt, we would like everything free. So if you give us the license for free, we would be thrilled.""The latest version of the solution has a few bugs.""The only concern that I have with VMware is the support. It is very limited and can be better.""There should be a bit more flexibility in terms of the hardware we can use with the product.""The licensing costs are expensive and most of the important features require a license.""An area for improvement is that when comparing VMware to Nutanix, Nutanix has higher availability, like clustering for virtual machines. That is a good idea and VMware could profit from something like that for higher availability installations.""The way that vSphere manages the alerts on the data machine is not easy to configure."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "For what it does, the price is acceptable."
  • "If you have Veeam Backup and Replication with the essential license then this solution is free. If you were to purchase Veeam ONE by itself it is priced cheaper than competitors."
  • "The licenses are code-based or server-based for Veeam ONE. The last version is 12, and it is host-based, I don't like to move to a code-based solution."
  • "Veeam has been raising its prices in the last two years, so it's now lacking some competitiveness in pricing."
  • "I have not used the resale license in our testing environments. Sometimes, our customers used the trial license for 30 days and so on."
  • "I don't pay for the solution, so I can't comment on the cost."
  • "The cost is based on the number of core servers."
  • "Our licensing cost is $200 a year."

  • "My advice when it comes to pricing is that pricing is a bummer, especially when it comes to SnS coverage."
  • "Purchase only the cheaper solution with support. I don’t recommend high-end licenses."
  • "Pricing needs to be competitive since Microsoft Hyper-V has come a long way; they are both around the same price range."
  • "VMware is consistently expensive and their pricing arrogance is what will drive us and other customers away."
  • "Start with the lowest and upgrade if, and only if, absolutely necessary."
  • "Compared with other vendors’ products, the pricing of the license is slightly lower. The annual S&S price is very affordable."
  • "The product is worth what you pay for it. I definitely feel like I"m getting good value."
  • "The only issue with vSphere might be with the cost of the tools and the software."

VMware vSphere is a powerful and complete server virtualization platform that allows its users to create and manage virtual data centers and machines. VMware vSphere is designed to help IT departments set up and run applications using the most cost-effective computer resources. By using vSphere, organizations save the time and energy necessary for purchasing infrastructure and software and reduce ongoing maintenance and operational burdens on IT teams.

Infrastructure administrators and network operators can access and manage the vSphere server by using a web-based cross-platform client application or via the vSphere client tool provided with vSphere.

VMware vSphere provides visibility into VMs and enables its users to carry out operations to manage VMs. This includes tasks such as:

    • Powering VMs on and off
    • Launching the VM console
    • Shutting down guest operating systems
    • Settings configurations
    • Taking system snapshots

    VMware vSphere Benefits

Some of the benefits of using VMware vSphere include:

    • Reduced costs: Since VMware applications are run on a server, it is not necessary to spend large amounts of your organization’s money on hardware, software, and infrastructure.
    • Increased productivity and customer satisfaction: VMware is able to operate multiple complex processes simultaneously. With all your applications being managed and run on the cloud, downtime, failures, and application errors are rare. VMware easily scales up and down to meet your computing needs. The high availability that VMware provides allows your IT staff to focus on other issues and keeps your customers satisfied with the service they receive.
    • Unlimited access to your VMs: VMware’s user-friendly cloud-based interface allows any employee to work from any location at any time.
    • Enhanced security: VMware’s security tools deliver full visibility into your entire system. This keeps your applications and data more secure, in any type of environment. VMware vSphere Features

Below is a list of some of VMware vSphere’s key features:

    • Transferable virtual machine images: Export and import virtual machine images from your local environment. This gives users the ability to set up and configure their systems locally and only upload them to the server once everything is working properly. VM images can be moved back and forth between vendors, ensuring that your company is never tied up to a specific cloud vendor.
    • User-friendly interface: Using VMware’s intuitive console, you can easily create, manage, share, and deploy virtual machines.
    • API integration: VMware’s APIs support integration with third-party applications for data protection, multipathing, and disk array solutions.
    • Distributed power management: Automate efficiency by continuously optimizing server power consumption within each cluster.

    Reviews from Real Users

VMware vSphere stands out among its competitors for a number of reasons. A few major ones are its virtualization abilities, its flexibility and availability, and its user-friendly interface.

Felix D., an Automation project administrator, DCS, I&E at Centennial Cayman Corp, writes, “The connectivity is fantastic, and many functions can run together in one server. If you need to scale, we can continue to add components or modules. It's a beautiful virtual solution that has many advantages over physical hardware, where you have to use devices and wiring to connect all your projects.”
