We performed a comparison between Veeam Backup & Replication and VMware SRM based on our users’ reviews in five categories. After reading all of the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.
Comparison Results: Veeam Backup & Replication comes out on top in this comparison due to its robust performance and user-friendly interface. Veeam Backup & Replication also has a significant ROI.
"I have found one of the most valuable features to be the integrity of the backups."
"The peace of mind of the backup is very important. Incremental backups make it fast and easy to use. We can recover from any failures in case of any hardware failures or malware attacks. We can do a rollback and recover our services with a little downtime. We can rollback even in the case of unsuccessful updates."
"The replication feature has proven to be the most valuable feature for us."
"It helps with process restoration. With Veeam, we never had backup or restoration issues."
"It's not complex to replicate and back up the system."
"The most valuable feature is the ease of use."
"The initial setup was very easy."
"The ability to offload backup snapshots to the SAN helps with reducing the backup durations."
"It is a very stable solution...I was involved in VMware SRM's deployment phase two years ago, and it was an easy process."
"Combined with RecoverPoint, it offers zero RPO and zero RTO."
"It eliminates the need for complex compliance requirements, making it a highly effective solution."
"In terms of recovery, if you have a test job script, you can put it on top of it. You can create custom steps so that it will be more granular. It will be an easy, one click solution when it comes to the recovery application."
"VMware's tech support gets a nine-out-of-ten. They are responsive and get you a useful reply."
"The most valuable feature of the solution is the automatic recovery of the virtual machine if it goes down."
"VMware SRM replicates the VM from one site to another, and it helps us orchestrate the powering of VMs and DR when the DC goes down."
"It is a stable solution...The solution's technical support is excellent."
"Near-synchronous, better RPO and RTO snapshot-based takes a lot of space and resources."
"The only improvement I could think of is it could be cheaper—cheaper is always good. Sometimes the product is just finished. Cheaper is always nice for the customer, but the company needs to benefit so that they can keep maintaining the product. New Windows versions, etc., always take some work. At the moment, I wouldn't switch to another solution because of the money."
"Multithreading of health check process: This can take too much time to process on large jobs and/or large VMs."
"I have issues with the licensing."
"We would like to have the ability to perform more things on the web interface. The heavy client is still needed to perform advanced tasks."
"The backup and integration could be improved."
"Offering mobile apps that give engineers a global view of his backup regime would be a "nice to have" feature."
"Physical backup is always where room for improvement could be but Veeam has always stated they are not going in that direction."
"Technical support needs improvement, they are not very responsive."
"The configuration process could be improved."
"The technical support is not very good and needs to make an effort to improve."
"In general, the drawbacks of VMware SRM, where improvements can be made, stem from the fact that it is an expensive and complex product."
"The administration guides can be complicated and difficult to use, so it would be helpful if it was made easier."
"We've had configuration issues on occasion. We start to fail over, and then we have to call it off because the configuration is not right, or the data stores aren't configured correctly in the secondary data center. Oftentimes, it is just the experience level of the team, and we have to bring in the vendor to help and validate our configuration."
"The solution is on the expensive side."
"We have had an issue when some customers have traditional designs and sites. For example, on one another site, they are using hyper-converged, using VMware, or Nutanix. We have a problem with the synchronization between the storage for site to site. This is the main issue. We are adding some other tools to support the synchronization to allow the movement of the workload from site to site easily."
