We performed a comparison between Hyper-V and VMware VSphere based on our users’ reviews in five categories. After reading all of the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.
Comparison Results: VMware VSphere is the winner in this comparison. It is easy to deploy, reliable, robust, and has excellent customer support. Hyper-V does come out on top in the pricing category, however.
"It has provided a good cost-saving from the management perspective."
"The most valuable features are ease of use, and it gets the job done in a straightforward manner."
"This solution helps us with production of our office business needs."
"Hyper-V helps to make a replica server between two machines. It is very easy to learn."
"I like that Hyper-V comes for free with Windows Server. You don't need to buy the license, and you only have to pay for the management aspect in System Center."
"We can perform maintenance on equipment during the day because we can live migrate all of the machines from one server to another."
"The solution allows us to take advantage of our physical environment."
"It utilizes the hardware so there are multiple applications running on one hypervisor."
"It's easy to use and very user-friendly."
"vRealize Operations Manager is the most valuable feature, but it is not embedded in vSphere; it is a part of vSphere. It is used for forecasting and checking the consumption of CPU, memory, and other resources. It has the capability to do the forecast based on the history and give advice on consumption. VMware vSphere is easy to use and easy to implement. Its learning curve is not sharp. Any engineer with little or medium knowledge of hypervisors and virtualizations can implement vSphere with a few clicks."
"I like that it's like a distributed rescheduler. You can move to and use VMotion as well. You can move the server and move the virtual machines around different physical servers. This makes it easier when it comes to redundancy."
"vMotion radically changes the way we think about how we can operate a large infrastructure, and notably, in terms of proactive maintenance."
"The solution saves cost."
"It makes managing your virtual servers easier and more centralized."
"Basic hypervisor functions with HA."
"I like the capability of logging into one system, then being able to shift over to another system within that single pane of glass."
"Failure capabilities are insufficient for disaster recovery."
"Hyper-V doesn't have a lot of features and is limited compared to other virtualization software."
"The weakness of Hyper-V is in its interaction with iSCSI protocols."
"We would like to have a cloning function added to this product."
"We'd like a template feature to help deploy VMs quickly."
"Sometimes there's a bit of slowness in the VMs."
"There are some storage problems which do occur in high load systems, especially SQL workloads."
"It needs additional administration and monitoring capabilities."
"The support for VMware vSphere can be fast or it can be slow. Recently it has been slow, they need to decrease the wait time and quality of their support."
"The way that vSphere manages the alerts on the data machine is not easy to configure."
"It would be good if the licensing cost of the solution could be cheaper."
"VMware vSphere needs to increase the datastore volume."
"I would like to see more software as a service solutions."
"I would like to see improvements in simplifying automation, cloud native deployment, administration, and fault resolution."
"It's inherently complex. Operating a large virtual infrastructure is not an easy task for anyone."
"There needs to be more integration overall. That would be quite helpful."
