We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The installation and maintenance are good.""First of all, the manageability of the applications for publishing is valuable. Second, it is about being able to run the applications on all main platforms. Third, its licensing is valuable. You can either switch to the cloud and keep on-prem. You can work with this hybrid scenario.""It is user-friendly and easy to use.""There are many features that I like, but the stability over the Internet is exceptional. Even if there's bandwidth fluctuation or network jitter, it performs well, offering a seamless experience to end-users without noticeable disruptions.""The most valuable feature is the ability to connect to our on-premise applications, through the Workspace app and the Workspace experience. The user experience when using the solution's technology remotely is good. Our users are able to work and it's seamless. The performance is also good.""The product is stable.""Citrix DaaS’s most valuable feature is the virtualization of applications and desktops.""The most valuable feature of the solution is that it supports team clients."

"The app virtualizing is a great feature.""I like that it updates quickly and allows users to have virtual desktops.""The most valuable features are Instant Clones and AppStacks.""The solution is very user friendly.""Horizon View's best features are that it gives you more control over the PCs on your infrastructure, and it's specialized for banking environments.""Instant Clone instantly creates another VM with a Delta disk, which is just the VMware backend. This helps with scalability and management.""The solution is secure.""Horizon View provides virtual desktops on demand."

Cons
"It is not easy to set up.""There is room for improvement on the hypervisor side, providing better integration between the hypervisor and the product line. I suspect that they haven't put the work into that because of the move to the cloud. They want everything to be cloud-hosted. But for folks like us, who will always be a hybrid model, that's of some concern.""There have been many issues with stability.""Latency is also a major problem when adopting Citrix for video editing software or 3D editing software, especially editing 4K video or large file size. The Citrix virtualized solution becomes too slow, so we cannot use the VDI.""We have had issues with certain aspects, which is why we are looking for alternatives. For example, the firewall solution from Citrix is a bit complicated. Integration is hard.""Citrix should consolidate the multiple tools currently required into a single platform.""I think improvement around the Analytics piece is super important. There has been a lot of maturity over the last year in that area, though a lot more needs to be done. Also, a lot more of the value of those Analytics needs to be sold to end users. Citrix is working on a lot of things that are ahead of the curve and a lot of organizations aren't quite there yet with implementing those technologies and capabilities.""As an end-to-end solution for implementing Zero Trust principles I would rate it a six or a seven out of 10, because it doesn't cover all aspects of Zero Trust. There are quite a few aspects you need to cover."

More Citrix DaaS (formerly Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops service) Cons →

"The initial startup costs for this solution are relatively high.""User profiles are something that needs to be improved.""Using a printer with the VDI is not a straightforward process.""VMware support is okay, but sometimes it's a little bit hit or miss trying to get somebody who knows what they're doing and talking about.""The installation is complex and could be easier. The full installation with testing took a couple of weeks to complete.""VMware Horizon View has worked a lot to improve the solutions. There are some issues in the delivery of the applications, such as network problems. You can lose your connection at times.""There should be a function where one can connect and work; whenever not required, one can deprovision it.""The initial setup was complex, and you need system experience to walk through it."

I think VMware Horizon View is a very solid product.

I think it is the most mature product on the whole spectrum. All virtual desktop environments require tuning for performance. Depending on the size of the company you don't need 1/10 of the bells & whistles that the vendors include. For example, I have a small environment - 70 employees. I don't use instant clones, personas, their analysis tools, ... Not only are they expensive (the tools) they overly complicate a complicated process. KISS.

I have honed down the environment to what is just needed. Most of the industry will tell you otherwise. And I do all this as a one-man IT department.

    Reviews from Real Users

VMware Horizon View stands out among its competitors for a number of reasons. Several major ones are its flexibility, powerful performance, and virtualizing capabilities.

David G., a systems engineer at a tech services company, writes, “This product is great for desktop management. It enables you to update one golden image, save it and basically deploy it... It makes management a lot easier. There's also the huge savings. We've (used) it with the pandemic because everybody had to work from home. Even if there weren't enough laptops to go around, almost everybody has a home computer. It was just a matter of installing Horizon on your home computer and connecting to the office using two-factor authentication. They made it really simple.”
