We performed a comparison between VMware SRM (Site Recovery Manager) and Zerto based on our users’ reviews in four categories. After reading all of the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.
Comparison Results: Zerto wins out in this competition. Its consistent sub-second response for RTO and RPO makes it one of the most responsive and fastest in the marketplace today. Users are able to easily run tests and change scenarios without any effect on an organization's production.
"The solution is scalable."
"The solution is strong when it comes to protection and analytics, with the latter being added later on."
"The solution is very flexible."
"SRM's best feature is automation."
"It is a stable solution...The solution's technical support is excellent."
"The most valuable features are the disaster recovery and testing."
"It made the DR process a lot faster and easier for recovery after we were familiar with the product operation."
"The most valuable feature is disaster recovery testing."
"When we need to failover or move workloads, Zerto significantly decreases both the time it takes and the number of people involved. It only takes a single person to activate a failover and we can pretty much automate everything else."
"Another big attraction is the near zero RPO. A lot of other products have minutes, half-hour, or an hour RPO. We have proof indicating that Zerto is near zero, or a matter of minutes, as far as the RTO is concerned. So again, that's another attractive offering where you can actually fail something over and bring that back up in a target location in a matter of minutes. Meaning very little data loss as far as recovery time. It's fantastic."
"It is pretty easy to use. The interface is intuitive and easy to use. Once you set it up, it just works. So, it is great."
"We can use Zerto to help protect our VMs."
"The ease of use is one of the most valuable features when it comes to making changes and configuring. It's very easy to set up and configure. It's a great product."
"It is incredibly granular and I really appreciate that."
"It enables protection of a virtual workload to be done by the app, whether single or multi-tiered, with a boot time scheduler. It is pretty awesome."
"A new feature is the One-To-Many VPG allowing a VM to be replicated at up to three different locations, including local."
"You cannot use VMware SRM in conjunction with storage replication software."
"The product's dashboard is an area of concern where improvements are required."
"Timing issues arise due to replication lags in multiple areas. When this happens, we encounter errors."
"The administration guides can be complicated and difficult to use, so it would be helpful if it was made easier."
"The biggest issue for us is that this product does not have any demo for customers."
"The two vCenters have to be synchronized, which sometimes gives us problems because Keberos does not tolerate more than five minutes in time difference."
"One thing which is lacking from the SRM is reporting."
"The technical support is not quick enough to respond when a user tries to contact them."
"They could improve their online documentation."
"Now, everything is moving to the cloud and many modern app solutions are based on virtualization and cloud, however, for situations where Unix platforms are used, we'd like them to be able to support that."
"It would also be nice if they could find a way to make it where one VM does not impact the entire journal history of the VPG."
"It needs to support more public cloud."
"They had a bug recently that has come up and caused some issues. They currently have a bug in their production versions that prevents their product from functioning in some scenarios, and we have hit a few of those scenarios."
"The tech support on my latest issue wasn't so great. I had to figure a lot of stuff out myself. It could be that I had a Level 1 tech who was new or something, but it seemed like the tech was spitballing, which does not help me."
"Some of the features need improvement. One would be, as you're creating a Move group or a VPG, as they call it, it should either autosave or have the ability so that you can save it for coming back to later because if the setup times out, you lose all your work. That would be a nice improvement to have."
"The post-configuration part could be improved. For example, it would be super helpful to have the ability to modify DNS. Once the migration is done, we want to do some more modifications to the endpoint."
