Good gateway with helpful traffic shaping and load balancing
There must be a wizard section as per the use case. For example, if we need a simple firewall there must be an auto-install of most required packages. In the same way, if we need a more strict firewall, then different configuration settings. There must be a more easy-to-use GUI. More documentation should be available within the package manager. A visible ON/OFF button must be there and can be easily configured as required. An additional non-us electrical plug must be inside the box. There should be an option to upgrade RAM (i.e. 8GB to 16GB). It can enhance the capacity of the proxy server.

Terminates VPNs for us and allows us access into our tenancy
The scalability is not too bad, though limited depending on the SKU you select. You can uplift the SKU to certain degrees, but compared to third-party appliances, it's more limited. In terms of scalability, it's limited because scalability without changing your SKU, it's pretty limited. For instance, the Gen1 Gateway can only do like a maximum of 30 VPN site-to-sites, which can be limited. If you uplift to the Gen2s, then you can get a maximum of a hundred. Third-party appliances can support up to 500. So, it is slightly limited but for our use case it is fine. I would rate the scalability a six out of ten.

An affordable and stable solution that is easy to use and provides two-factor authentication
The solution is used for remote connection for workers The tool was a huge benefit during COVID-19 when everyone had to work from home. We had a little jump in front of most businesses because we had Netextender set up, and it allowed most of our workers to continue doing business as usual…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It's an ideal gateway solution for small and medium businesses, i.e., around 300 devices can be easily handled."
"The solution has good performance."
"It sends us a lot of detections when we have any anti-virus updates. It provides the extended time needed to update a set of time needs and notifications."
"It is a stable solution in our company, and we monitor critical health and performance parameters daily and weekly."
"It works perfectly for me. It is very user-friendly in terms of the configuration and the setup process."
"The interoperability with various firewall and access gateway vendors is one of this solution's most valuable features"
"The best feature is the ability to connect from anywhere."
"All of our offices are using Microsoft Azure VPN Gateway. The solution is scalable."
"The point-to-site is pretty good for the B2C stuff. It's fairly straightforward to set up."
"The Azure tool is useful and powerful and availability for clients. The updates are very good and reliable."
"The initial setup is pretty straightforward."
"The initial setup is pretty easy."
"It allows us to work remotely."
"Employees can have access to the network from home."
"The solution provides high availability."
"NetExtender works very well. I never had an issue with it, and it has been working well for me. In terms of management, you have good control over the destination. You can use NetExtender to set the policy and the static route for a client. You can modify it based on what your client needs or can access. You have good control over routing."
"The product has two-factor authentication."
"One of the most valuable features of SonicWall Netextender is the integration of VPN accounts with Microsoft Identity Management, which enables us to enforce secure access through Microsoft Intune and conditional access policies. This helps ensure that only authorized individuals are able to access the VPN, rather than anyone with knowledge of a password."

Cons

"There must be a more easy-to-use GUI."
"In the next release, Microsoft should add an option to schedule upgrades."
"Connectivity could be improved in Microsoft Azure VPN Gateway because it's not as stable, particularly when connecting a device tunnel."
"Microsoft Azure VPN Gateway could improve by providing IPS zero-day threat protection. For example, the IPS zero-day threat protection can monitor the user behavior to protect the infrastructure. The solution can only be used as a VPN, it is lacking features."
"In future releases, I would like to see the ability to inject BGP routes."
"Their technical support could be better. If you don't have a support contract, it takes longer."
"Considering my past interactions with Microsoft's support team, it is difficult to get the right support unless you find the right person to speak with from the customer support team."
"More configuration options could be included in Microsoft Azure VPN Gateway."
"The connectivity should be faster."
"The UI could be a little better."
"The initial setup of SonicWall Netextender is straightforward. The only issue we encountered was with relocating the VPN appliance. If we needed to move it from an on-premise to an on-cloud architecture, we had to start over and redeploy it from scratch. Unfortunately, it is not portable and any changes to its physical location often result in the need for a fresh deployment to ensure everything functions properly."
"The solution takes up a lot of bandwidth."
"Right now, you have to load each license on to an appliance. You can't pool across multiple appliances. So, you end up having to do a lot of administrative work to recover if an internet provider goes down, and you cannot leverage it as easily into a DR solution."
"There must be a multi-factor authentication enabled or integrated by default with it in order to be integrated with NetExtender."
"The only concern I do have is with the zero trust, and the solution is not coping with the newer technologies as much as it needs to do on that particular factor."
"The product does not work well."
"SonicWall can be difficult for some people, but I don't find it difficult. Some companies provide a VPN client for free, but you have to pay for NetExtender."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"There is not a license required for this solution but the price should be less expensive."
"It's saved us money compared to getting a third-party appliance."
"The solution is subscription-based and very cheap."
"The cost could be lower."
"The software has good pricing compared to other vendors."
"Payment for licensing the solution is part of the operating model. So, one needs to keep on paying while consuming the solution. In short, the payment is based on the solution's capacity."
"Its price is reasonable for new technology."
"Microsoft Azure VPN Gateway is the cheapest way for us to connect to our cloud infrastructure. Other solutions, such as ExpressRoute are very expensive."
"The product costs us $140 to $180 per month."
"You have to pay for its license. There are some other companies that provide a VPN client for free. When you buy NetExtender, its license is available for one, three, or five years."
"Cost wise, it would be a few hundred dollars for the base appliance with the first five clients. Then from there, your cost per seat depends on how many you're getting. It's a one-time cost, and then you have a few hundred dollars a year for the maintenance contract once you get the one-time seat costs out of the way."
"The solution has a pretty good price."
"The solution is cheap itself, not too costly."
"After a certain number of users, you require extra licensing."
"The price of SonicWall Netextender is reasonable. Whether it's a small shop with only five users or a larger operation with 130 users, we have received no complaints or objections regarding cost from any of the clients we are looking to deploy it with."
