A stable solution offering features like analytics and attack mitigation capabilities
Arbor DDoS is not used for enterprise companies but by some other companies, including NIDC, a government entity Analytics and its attack mitigation capabilities are valuable features of the solution. It is an expensive product, so there is room for improvement in terms of pricing. I work for…

Reliable and straightforward to set up but has confusing logic
We seem to have confusing logic from the solution itself. This needs to be addressed. For configuring the firewall, every single vendor on the planet has pretty much the same logic when it comes to firewalls, and F5 has a completely different approach and completely different behavior. When you first encounter the AFM, it can be really complicated to understand and find a way how to achieve the desired configuration. It's not logical. It's completely different than any other solution. In the end, it gives you similar results - just in a much more complicated way. Technical support could be better.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We have taken on the Arbor Cloud subscription, which is really useful because you secure yourself for anything beyond your current mitigation capacity. This is a really good feature of Arbor that is available."
"We use it not only for DDoS detection and protection, but we also use it for traffic analysis and capacity planning as well. We've also been able to extend the use of it to other security measures within our company, the front-line defense, not only for DDoS, but for any kind of scanning malware that may be picked up. It's also used for outbound attacks, which has helped us mitigate those and lower our bandwidth costs..."
"Using standard BGP, NetFlow and SNMP ensure wide compatibility. There are also peering traffic reports that can help identify upstream peering opportunities. The ATLAS aggregation service allows us to contribute to the global DDoS data and benefit from overall trends."
"We can reduce the bandwidth to minimize the attack level. If we see more than 2.5 GBs we drop it directly."
"I like all the features together as a whole."
"It has an easy-to-understand GUI...Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten."
"With real-time packet capture features, you can easily and quickly response."
"There are a number of valuable features in this product, like Cloud Signaling and Threat Intelligence feeds."
"CGNAT is one of its strong areas."
"It excels in preventing downtime and maintaining application performance, which is crucial for our clients' security and operational continuity."
"This product excells in every aspect from installation and the interface to providing superior network security."
"The decryption is great."
"The setup and functionality are fairly straightforward."
"The most valuable features of F5 BIG-IP Advanced Firewall Manager (AFM) are the web gateway, load balancing, services, and applications available."
"F5 BIG-IP Advanced Firewall Manager's most valuable feature is load balance. It is readily available and uncomplicated."
"The solution is easily deployable and has great functionality."

Cons

"Because we had some routers that were somewhat old, they were not integrated with Arbor. They did not support the NetFlow version that Arbor was running. That was a challenge. We had to upgrade the routers. Some backward-compatibility would be helpful."
"On the main page there are alerts that we are unable to clear, even though the issue has been resolved."
"The solution's IT support needs improvement."
"The support got worse after NETSCOUT acquired Arbor."
"There should be an automatic way to configure it to monitor traffic and decide which is an attack and which is not. In Arbor, you need to tweak and set all parameters manually, whereas in Check Point DDoS Protector, you can select the lowest parameters, and over the weeks, Check Point DDoS Protector will learn the traffic and you can then tighten some of the parameters to decide which traffic is regular and which is malicious."
"I would also like more visibility into their bad actor feeds, their fingerprint feeds. We try to be good stewards of the internet, so if there are attacks, or bad actors within our networks, if there were an easier way for us to find them, we could stop them from doing their malicious activity, and at the same time save money."
"When it comes to some false positives, we need to tweak the system from time to time. There is room for improvement when it comes to the actual mitigation because of some false positives."
"With Arbor DDoS, its integration issues with other technologies or other vendors' technologies is an area of concern that could be improved."
"Deployment times vary according to the customer. It needs to be heavily configured. You need to look and you need to observe the behavior of the traffic before you can start configuring everything. It can take time."
"The initial setup of F5 BIG-IP AFM in a complex environment was simple. However, the full deployment took us approximately one year."
"There should be simplified and better integration with BIG-IQ."
"Firstly, geolocation currently relies on manual updates. It has to move to automatic updates. There are no automatic updates for this feature. If some IPs, countries, or service providers move to another country, now you will be allow IPs that you previously denied. This is because you depend on the database, which doesn't update automatically. This is really a very important area that they need to improve."
"F5 BIG-IP Advanced Firewall Manager's pricing and technical support services need improvement."
"We would have preferred to have support when we first started"
"The solution's UI could be improved."
"There is room for improvement in Advanced Firewall Manager's dashboard statistics, especially during attacks."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price of this solution is a little high in the African market, it should be lower."
"We do not use the Arbor Cloud DDoS solution because it is too costly."
"You need to find a way to get a good offering from Arbor by negotiating a price. That is the challenge."
"Our customers always complain about the price of the product."
"Arbor's products are very expensive. Their competitors are cheap when compared with Arbor."
"It is an expensive product. I use this product for its different features."
"Because the solutions from competitors are very different, it's not easy to compare. However, the licensing from Arbor is clear and understandable and the pricing is reasonable when looking at the market, in general."
"I'm a technical guy. But I know it's expensive compared to its competitors. After you have the on-premise solution, for your solution to be effective you have to subscribe to an "upper level," so there's another cost. There is also a subscription to cloud services, which is another cost."
"It is somewhat on the expensive side although it is worth the additional cost."
"F5 BIG-IP Advanced Firewall Manager (AFM) is an expensive solution. They are one of the best in the market, but the price could be cheaper."
"As per pricing, I would not say cheap, but little higher than cheap, but not very expensive. So you can say kind of value for money solutions."
"The solution is slightly on the higher priced side."
"The product is expensive."
"The price of F5 BIG-IP AFM is a little more expensive than other firewalls on the market."
"It's very expensive, and you pay extra for the models."
"We need to pay a yearly licensing fee for the solution."
