A fantastic tool for creating content
The initial setup of ARIS BPA is simple. When we first started using it, it was deployed on-premises. The latest version was deployed on cloud and it only takes a few days. It promises to teach you how to do that, but that is not very helpful since your company's team and organization need to be suitable for this kind of complexity. It's web-based, but there are technical limits to what you can do with it. In a way, it encourages you to purchase more and more if you want to maximize its usability. It does not teach you how to use it and it's very formal. Although ARIS is a fantastic tool, it would be better if it was focused on the customer's success. It requires a lot of maintenance.

Has built-in, existing processes that can be easily modified
In terms of what could be improved, I would not say that the solution itself needs improvement, meaning the product side, but more that the overall approach of the organization does. At the moment there are very few people who can lead training for the product. I think that area needs to improve. They should train more organizations because now they're the only ones that do training. As the product gets more and more customers, it takes longer to schedule a training. They need to get more training providers. The vendor is the only one doing the training. You schedule it in March and you find you can only do training quite far down the line and maybe you also want to do deployment. They're still entering the South African market, but I think now they have enough customers to get other providers so you won't have wait too long for the training before you can start running with the product.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"BPA, the modeling tool, is the main module used because of our need for documentation."
"Visualizes processes which helps the business see pain points."
"The technical support is good."
"The tool defines the processes. It's the documentation of everything."
"The initial setup and installation are very straightforward."
"The ease of use is the most valuable. I have tried a number of BPMN packages, and I find the user interface of ARIS BPM easier and more intuitive than others. If your team is knowledgeable on BPMN, it is really pretty easy to figure out on your own because it adheres to the standards extremely well. I have tried Bizagi, BizFlow, and a variety of such solutions, and I just liked ARIS BPM better."
"The most valuable feature is the flexibility of the solution to fully customize the methodology according to the company's needs, and to enforce that methodology with features like filters, semantic checks, and reports."
"It has allowed us to model our enterprise process architecture."
"One of the things that I have found most valuable is that it is very easy to use. For example, they have built-in existing processes that you can easily modify."

Cons

"There should be a more intuitive tool when creating reports."
"Needs flexibility in automation of the modeling processes and real-time analysis of data, not just a static view."
"Displaying role allocation matrix models in ARIS Connect needs improvement."
"It needs external API and the ability to navigate back, similar to "Back" in web browser."
"The Risk and Compliance Management tool is rather complex and moreover, it needs to be customized if you want to use it."
"The interface is a little archaic."
"The product is difficult to use for someone without prior knowledge of working with it. It requires a certain level of administration training."
"Integration with third-party tools should be improved (e.g. based on APIs)."
"At the moment there are very few people who can lead training for the product. I think that area needs to improve."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The product is a bit pricey."
"This is absolutely not the cheapest solution in the market, but for large companies, the price is fine."
"It is an expensive solution."
"Their license model is really difficult to understand, and licenses are quite expensive."
"ARIS is quite expensive."
"The product is expensive."
"It is well worth the investment in the enterprise."
"Negotiate. Price is high so make sure you’re getting the best deal."
