Integrates well, reasonably priced, and provides high level support
ExaGrid EX Series is scalable. You can connect another ExaGrid Appliance to it to provide more disk space. I have been told it is simple to upgrade, you do not need to dispose of the current hardware, you can add to it. There is de-duplication and other features that use space but we have not needed to add disk space and we are only at one quarter used so far. We had the Barracuda Backup Appliance previously called Barracuda Backup, and it was not flexible, we were running out of space. Some companies do proper specification and then others try to bring their price point down by getting you in. Then in a year or two down the road, you start running out of space, which is what happened to us with the Barracuda solution.

Great support, good reliability, and can expand as needed
We would implement the solution for clients.  The solution is stable.  It is scalable.  Technical support has been great. They could improve the interface a bit. It's not as good as it could be.  I've been using the solution for six to seven years.  The product is quite stable and reliable.…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution easily integrates with the backup targets, such as Veeam."
"One of the main features is the landing zone, it is a particular space where the information is not duplicated."
"The tool has improved backup and recovery times. One of the key features contributing to this improvement is the landing zone and deduplication retention zone. When data is in the landing zone, the process is fast, ensuring smooth backup and recovery operations at high speeds. However, the process becomes slower for long-term backups moved to the retention zone due to fragmentation. So, if the data is older than a few days, the speed may be limited, especially for non-deduplicated data in the landing zone."
"The most valuable features of the solution are deduplication and landing zone."
"The most valuable feature is the ease of use and data deduplication. It's extremely easy to use and does a very good job of data deduplication and compression."
"It is a solid and a quite simple solution, which is a good combination. The customers like the simplicity and its scale-out capacity. They like the support pricing, and even the extension capacity pricing, a fixed price, which the executive is offering in Czech market."
"We find the pricing is reasonable."
"It’s quite scalable."
"It has a lot of very good features. The virtual tape library (VTL) feature is most valuable. Overall, it is easy to use."
"The most valuable features of Veritas NetBackup Appliance are the ease of use and the familiar interface."
"This is a good backup interconversion solution because all the masters and the targets backups are on the same system. It is easy to administrate for a single point of access for clients."
"I personally find Veritas NetBackup Applicance hassle-free."
"I can confidently say that I have managed more than 30 or 50 appliances over different time periods, and yet I never had a single hardware failure."
"I think the solution is very intuitive, effective, and easy to use."

Cons

"The solution could improve by switching to a flash-type solution rather than the spinning drives that they currently use. However, we have not had any failure with the spinning drives. The flash-type drives are more up-to-date and are something that is in their roadmap."
"I would like for them to develop direct cloud integration with a third-party cloud. Direct integration with AWS and other cloud providers."
"The tool reduces storage footprint. However, clients are now storing data for longer durations with increasing requirements to retain backups for longer periods, particularly as a defense against ransomware attacks. As a result, the retention zone with duplicated data is experiencing more demand, leading to space constraints. This necessitates using higher-end, more expensive models to address the issue."
"The product's documentation can be made more precise."
"The one place where we are sometimes losing the opportunity with ExaGrid is that a few customers still require a fiber channel connectivity, which is not always possible."
"When speaking about a scale-out, you want to have better equipment. You cannot just add a disc to the foreign equipment. You have to buy another one and put it together, like parallel."
"NetBackup Appliance's pricing is reasonable, but it could be lower."
"With technical support, it feels like they aren't well trained and it takes forever to get answers out of them."
"This solution has to have better integration with the cloud, as well as with other solutions such as Business Intelligence products."
"The response from the support team has not always been quick, so sometimes there is a risk."
"The product must improve its recovery features."
"Veritas NetBackup Appliance could improve by having a site recovery feature."
"I would like the ability to recover a single folder within the backup of a virtual machine."
"Feature-wise, it is quite good, but it is very costly. Its price has gone up quite significantly over the years, and that makes people like us look at alternatives."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"My company had to pay 1,60,000 EUR for the system we use, and the payment was made just once for the system and five years of full support."
"In comparison to other solutions, it's affordable. They're all too expensive."
"The current agreement has 21 terabytes of free space and it cost approximately $35,000."
"The previous solutions I have used both included the Backup Software and the Appliance making it hard to compare to this solution. However, overall the solution is reasonably priced for the features you receive. ExaGrid EX Series is priced better than HP, Dell, and possibly Commvault which I have compared in the past."
"I rate ExaGrid EX Series' pricing eight to nine out of ten."
"Overall, Veritas is a good solution; the problem is the cost."
"It costs more to license support for this solution, compared to others."
"On a scale of one to ten, where one is a high price, and ten is a low price, I rate the solution's pricing an eight."
"Renewing subscriptions for appliance support is costly."
"The product's price is high."
"I rate the tool's pricing an eight out of ten."
"We pay annually. It is a huge figure for us."
"There is a license needed to use Veritas NetBackup Appliance and there are not any additional fees."
