Reasonably priced, scales well, and offers good stability
We primarily use the solution for cluster applications and databases. We use the solution on the DBA and those that use double machines Being able to have broken files on-site on the same appliance is quite useful. The newer version of NVME has a really noticeable difference in quality versus the…

Simple to scale, helpful support, and stable
We use HPE Nimble Storage as a storage solution The most valuable feature is the NVMe flash storage. We would like there to be more enhanced features. I have been using the solution HPE Nimble Storage for approximately one year. The stability and performance are very good. The solution is…

Simplified our VM storage, creating a set-it-and-forget-it situation for us
We use it mostly for our VM storage The benefit we have seen is the simplification. Using Tintri has been more of a set-and-forget-it situation where I trust that Tintri performs as expected. And it does. It definitely reduces administrative time. Once I set it up I barely had any issues with…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"What I really like about this program, is that it is easy to use and easy to configurate."
"The standout features for us in Pure FlashArray X NVMe are its robust DDoS protection, seamless transparent failover, and failback capabilities ensuring high availability."
"Pure FlashArray X NVMe helps to improve our processing speed. It is user-friendly and easy to use."
"The initial setup was extremely simple and straightforward."
"Pure FlashArray X NVMe will quickly overcome all the hurdles you face, including network and latency issues."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is reliability."
"Overall stability is very good. It is a very stable solution."
"It has good, reliable, fast storage."
"HPE Nimble Storage is very stable and performs well."
"We like the performance."
"Their remote management and understanding when things are starting to go wrong and their ability to fix them before the customer even knows, this has been a big positive when a customer makes the decision to go with Nimble"
"The most valuable features are the duplication and compression traffic. We have second storage that we can use for the synchronization of data between the data centers."
"This product is very easy to set up."
"The deduplication and compression capabilities are powerful."
"Nimble's phone-home capability is decent. The compression, dedupe, and caching are also solid. Generally, I like the simplicity. It's almost a set-and-forget solution."
"We get storage access without the need for more human monitoring of those resources."
"The most valuable aspect of the solution was how fast it worked on behalf of VDI desktops."
"It has easy setup, easy administration, and no LUNs!"
"I like Tintri's Global Admin feature and the solution's performance. It's incredibly fast storage, which was a significant upgrade for us when we deployed it seven years ago. The Tintri snapshots are brilliant and incredibly reliable."
"It is fast and reliable. There hasn’t been a single failure in three years of use."
"Among the most valuable features are its granular replication, the ability to define asynchronous or synchronous replication, which gives us very definable RTOs and RPOs around that type of service, and granular quality-of-service configuration, which allows for cases where you've got multiple customers on a single Tintri, but you want to be able to offer strong quality-of-service metrics and KPIs."
"It’s very good at IOPS."
"You can control resources on a per VM basis to ensure that contention in resources does not hamper performance."
"We have been able to scale up to ten VM storages and 500 VMs through a single pane of glass."

Cons

"If the customer only needs 500 terabytes and doesn't care how much data they'll put in the server, IBM is cheaper than Pure."
"It's more multi-tenant functionality in their Pure1 manage portal that is lacking."
"In terms of what needs improvement, the dashboard and management could be simplified."
"The tool's portfolio is minimal. It is expensive."
"In the future, I would like to see integration with enterprise backup systems."
"There is room for improvement in catering to midrange storage needs, especially for customers seeking Enterprise-class features."
"I want to see Pure Storage not only be for fast storage, but I want to see it be for the entire data center."
"Right now, the box itself is just strictly working as a backend storage system. It would be fantastic if we could access it directly like a NAS device through network access or SIS drives. I think they have an interface, but I am not sure how good it is. If we could address a box directly on the network without having to go through a server, it would be great. The replication schemas could be improved. We are not using replication on the storage level right now. We use a different type of replication. If their replication would be as good as the one that we have, I would probably run the replication schema because it might be faster, but I don't know that for a fact. So, I cannot say that they have good replication. All I can say is that they need to inform us better."
"I would like to see SSL Certification."
"We want to start storing data in the cloud really soon and we are looking at options."
"I want it to be an active-active array. Nimble would be great as an active-active array because then everything checks out. It would give a feeling of comfort."
"If they could reduce the cost, that would be ideal."
"The solution should allow for easier configurations."
"I'd also like to see them incorporate tools that let me get granular with the VMs. I want to see an individual VM, I want to Snapshot and recover an individual VM."
"I'd like to see more granular quality of service rules. Currently, I think currently there's not much room for maximum IOPS, but there's not an option for minimum IOPS for a given volume."
"The solution could reduce its price."
"In sync and automated mirror between two Tintris is missing."
"Their current replication is really just enough to "check the box" that they do replication. We'll probably implement Actifio, Zerto or EMC RecoverPoint for VMs for more critical data replication."
"The Tintri OS and GlobalCenter software do a great job of showing you troubled VMs, however it still could be a bit more helpful in diagnosing the issues."
"What I feel would be nice, in terms of a wishlist, is scalability. Rather than replacing the whole appliance, I would like to be able to just add another unit and scale it like that."
"Active/active cluster between two Tintris on Hyper-V cluster."
"On the software side, I suggest adding integration with backups software like CommVault Simpana or Veeam where these products can integrate with the array and trigger things like snapshots for backup, etc."
"The Tintri Analytics site is excellent for long-term trending, but more data would be great."
"Tintri's Cloud Connector currently only goes to AWS and IBM Cloud, and we don't use either because we're Microsoft Silver Partners. It would be great to get the Cloud Connector feature with Azure. If it's not already on Tintri's roadmap, that's something I'd like to see."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Pretty much everything that you need is licensed when you buy the product. Licensing to me is different than the maintenance cost, but they can bleed into one another. We buy the product, and we expect three years of support bundled into what we negotiate on our storage arrays. I would start to see maintenance costs going into the fourth year, but we're not there yet."
"With VMware, we pay $300,000 annually."
"Its price could be better. It is not too expensive, but it is the high-end cost. It is kind of a Rolls-Royce. You pay a lot, but you get a lot out of it. So, the price pressure on the way down would be great, but at the end of the day, if you need to do the work, you just pay for it."
"The tool is an investment that we've budgeted for. While the prices may be higher than those of other vendors, we see it as a market leader with benefits. We don't regret purchasing it."
"Our licensing fees are $500,000+ USD."
"They can tout the functionality and cutting edge technology that they have, but that's where the price tag comes in. The cost is high, but I think as they grow their business and get more customers that it will probably go down a little bit."
"The support cost per array is about $20,000 a year for 24/7 support."
"As far as the licensing costs, everything is included in the license."
"There are no licensing costs for this solution."
"There is a monthly fee to use the solution."
"We are paying for the licensing yearly."
"It's expensive. It could be cheaper. I'd rate it a five out of ten in terms of pricing. We're on a yearly licensing. I haven't come across any additional costs. We just paid for three-year support."
"The solution’s licensing is on a yearly basis."
"If you don't go cheap, it is eventually worth it. However, the initial investment is high."
"From a price/performance perspective, Nimble simply can’t be beat. From a TCO perspective, the stability alone pays for itself."
"We have seen tremendous ROI. It pays for itself 10 times over in the matter of four years."
"I think it is a very good solution. You get a good bang for buck."
"The licensing model is relatively simple. For things like replication, however, the licensing needs to be looked at."
"We haven't found Tintri's pricing to be a barrier to entry for any of our customers. Tintri works through a number of distributors and when we've had to purchase it for our customers we have found the pricing to be competitive."
"Always could be cheaper."
"An "all-in-one" license model would be better at this price range."
"Tintri is reasonably priced for the solution you get. Advanced features do require extra to use."
"The price of Tintri VMstore is not overly high compared to similar solutions."
"It's very competitive."
