If it doesn't connect out-of-the-box to a specific technology, we can add a new technology into it
ODI has the ability to connect to virtually any technology out there. If it does not connect out-of-the-box, we can very easily add a new technology into it. This flexibility gives a tremendous developmental advantage to its users, which can use ODI as the official ETL tool for any kind of integration project. Its Knowledge Modules (KMs) may abstract the “how” portion of integrations, allowing the users to focus on the “what” that needs to be done. It can be easily used by either young ETL developers or expert professionals. For resumes, the ease of use for young professionals and its great development flexibility for expert professionals make it a great product to be used for every ETL project out there.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature is Data movement."
"It has the ability to easily load slowly changing dimensions."
"It allows us to use many languages to develop and to integrate practically all the technologies of the Oracle suite as well as those from non-Oracle vendors."
"ODI's best features are customization, integration with other versioning tools, and the ability to define new knowledge modules."
"The solution's initial setup is straightforward, especially compared to Mule, which our team has worked with before and found to be a bit more complex in terms of setup."
"It's scalable."
"It's completely user-friendly."
"The Knowledge Module approach provides an easy and reusable way to create our own integration strategies. It's easy to create these Knowledge Modules to connect to new technologies, for instance."
"It allows users to quickly analyze data from a variety of sources and visualize it with powerful, interactive graphs, and charts."
"One of the main features is integrated statistical analysis."
"Live Query data on demand, R and Python integration, and the ability to write HTML and JavaScript text areas are all valuable features."
"The solution is an affordable one."
"The ability to connect to many different data sources is one of the key features. The other would then be the different ways in which that data can be visualized."
"The ability to create a real-time data mark, using just one piece of software, is the best feature of this product."
"It's scalable."
"From a scalability standpoint, I would say it's pretty fantastic."

Cons

"An area for improvement in Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) is real-time integration. Currently, my company has a workaround to implement real-time integration, an area on which Oracle must focus more. Real-time integration should be easier in Oracle Data Integrator (ODI). Another area for improvement in Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) is integration with more publishers and subscribers rather than just database integrations."
"Technical Support could be better."
"In our company, we haven't tried consuming services from IoT in our company yet, and I would like to know if the solution will support IoT services in the next release."
"It would be really good if Oracle considered enabling the tool to integrate with some other platforms that are deprecated simply for commercial reasons"
"The resource management aspect of the solution could be improved."
"It lacks a suite of tools suitable for fully processing data and moving it into decision support warehouses."
"The performance of the user interface is in need of improvement."
"The initial setup is complex, especially if you also have to install a console."
"We encountered difficulties connecting the special data sets, as the post data set did not contain any shared columns, making it difficult to establish a connection between the data sets."
"We would like to see some development in the visualization aspect of this solution, as they can currently only be configured in the cloud, which limits us to one endpoint. It would be helpful if this could be integrated with other tools."
"Print capability and trigger-based events."
"The way TIBCO Spotfire is designed, in my opinion, is the reason why it lags a bit, especially compared to other BI tools like Qlik."
"When you do the data loading, it is slow."
"I would like more easy-to-implement analytical algorithms. At the moment they include things like forecasts and regressions. They need to add a lot more of these types of things to the product because not everyone is a data scientist."
"One aspect where Spotfire could improve is its global recognition, especially in terms of support."
"The Text Area feature needs to be more user-friendly. It is a little clunky to use, and it is difficult to consistently format text."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Being an ODI developer, I never had to pay for this product. I know that the pricing/licensing is not really low, but the product is really good."
"The solution is expensive because of the model they use. The cost is for the license and for support."
"I have yet to determine the exact figure for Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) pricing, but it has lower pricing than Informatica."
"ODI comes included when buying the cloud version of the Oracle database license."
"The Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) pricing isn't expensive, but it's not cheap, so it's in the middle. I'd rate the pricing as three out of five."
"There is a standard license to use the solution but there are other costs in addition, such as hardware and operating system."
"The solution is very expensive."
"Per user, it is $900 USD per year, though they will give some discount. However, even a 60% to 70% of discount for each won't help us much. On top of that, there is the perpetual license you must pay at the outset."
"I would describe TIBCO Spotfire as an averagely-priced product."
"The cost of TIBCO Spotfire could improve. It should be less expensive. It's the most expensive visualization tool in our company."
"The price-point for this solution is negotiable depending on usage levels."
"The pricing seems competitive and reasonable. The value delivered by the product far exceeds the cost."
"The ROI is nearly impossible to calculate."
"The cost is a few hundred dollars per user per year."
"In comparison to other solutions such as IBM Cognos, TIBCO Spotfire is more affordable."
"The Tibco sales teams have been very difficult to work with - ignoring requests, misrepresenting level of demand, etc."
