Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable feature of Arcserve UDP is the initiative UI and the logs are clear and detailed that are generated when there has been an issue or failure on the user's system. We only have to log onto the client's system to retrieve the information. It is possible to precisely identify the problem's location. The system categorizes and logs every step in a structured manner, selectively displaying only the essential logs. However, to view a comprehensive log, one must access the line machine log and examine the actual client for detailed logging.""The most valuable feature of Arcserve UDP is live replication.""The ROI is very good because of the speed of the backup.""The product provides instant and virtual standbys.""Arcserve UDP has a good configuration and user interface. It makes the job of an administrator easy.""There are many backup options available in this solution. For example, you are able to do backups of servers, email, OST files, and users. This is a complete backup solution which is very good.""I like the tool's speed.""It allows us to back up all the servers and centrally manage them."

"The restoration and infrastructure is extremely reliable."

Cons
"A lot of their new technologies are not very good.""StorageCraft ShadowProtect can improve by making one console that can control backups of all desktops and servers in one place. Additionally, the recovery process of the backups is very slow and could improve. It's very slow when we went to recover a complete disc but to recover one file is very fast.""Every time I change the disc, I have to do a full backup.""Licensing is an area that needs improvement.""We cannot restore each user's mailbox. Each user's mailbox should be independently restorable. Also, this solution is very slow. If you select all of the servers, it runs for a long time... It needs to be faster. Finally, If anything happens to one server we should be able to switch to another server.""The speed of restores should be improved. We have found the speed of large restores rather slow.""Arcserve UDP is in the middle range of complexity. The interface can be developed a little bit more to be user-friendly.""I don't know whether the tool has VMware integrations. It would be good to cover this area if it doesn't have those."

More Arcserve UDP Cons →

"We would like to have the opportunity to omit data from being backed up. For example, we have three virtual machines, each with three disks. When running the backup, it will automatically take each disk rather than allowing us to select what data we want backed."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "I do not work with the pricing or licensing issues of the solution for our organization."
  • "We only have the maintenance of three standard UDP licenses. Each license is 50 Euro. There are some additional costs for the storage and software but it has nothing to do with the UDP."
  • "Normally our customers purchase the premium plus license, rather than the standard one, which provides more options."
  • "The price of this product is high and it should be lower."
  • "It is approximately $400 to purchase a virtual service outright."
  • "There is an annual license required for this solution and it is priced well."
  • "Pricing is most likely comparable."
  • "The retail fee is $1300 for a year for one server. Other than that, there is just the cost of your hardware."

  • "It's expensive, but it's worth for it due to the volume of critical information within our database. We are currently paying about $22,000 per year."
