We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It is a scalable solution.""The most valuable feature of Azure DNS is it works automatically after configuration. Additionally, the solution is secure.""The tool is easy to manage and use.""The integration with other services on Azure is valuable.""The solution is easy to use and flexible.""Azure DNS provides value beyond its user-friendly interface and easy learning curve.""The most valuable feature is the ease of installation.""From a security perspective, Microsoft is much better than other cloud providers."

"Since implementing BlueCat, we have experienced fewer problems, anomalies, and strange issues.""The most valuable features are scalability and cloud infrastructure.""It's a critical infrastructure piece. This is where all the IPs are named for the whole organization. It's a big deal. It has all the features related to DNS and DHCP. It's pretty amazing.""As a defense contractor, we must meet many compliance standards regarding logging, configuration, and administrative access. BlueCat is one of the few products that combines all the compliance components in a secure, reliable solution.""BlueCat Integrity provides us with flexibility and visibility that we did not have before.""I've been impressed by BlueCat's performance and user-friendly GUI.""Adaptive DNS's best feature is DDoS protection, which stops malware and network security attacks.""The most significant advantage of BlueCat is its foundation on open-source software, specifically BIND and ISC DHCP."

Cons
"The scalability could improve.""The DNSSEC feature is not yet available on the DNS server so it needs to be added.""The process of creating a virtual mission could be improved.""The solution’s pricing could be improved.""There are some latency issues that could be improved.""The product must be integrated with additional security features.""The initial setup of this solution could be less complex and require less manual configurations.""Azure DNS sticks mostly with the Azure native solution and doesn't scale well in a multi-cloud or hybrid environment."

More Azure DNS Cons →

"One complaint about the interface is BlueCat's handling of subzones.""I would like the GUI to be similar to AWS and Azure, where we can simply click on an item to expand it and see all the information on one page, without having to click to the next page.""The UI is outdated and needs a modern refresh.""When you replace an appliance, there are many configuration steps, so adding zero-touch provisioning would be helpful. It can be quite tedious and time-consuming to replace a device if it fails or deploy a new one.""The DNS and DHCP servers for guests are separated from the main organization. A lot of times, it doesn't allow you to choose a default IP space. When I log in to the GUI, it doesn't default to where I want it to be. So far, I haven't been able to find out how to change or specify that so that it defaults to a particular space, such as the main org. If I'm looking for the IP space for guests, I need to toggle and go to the guest site. Most of the time, I want the IP space for the org to be my main space, but it doesn't give me the ability to do that, or I haven't been able to find that over the last two years.""The ease of use is where I got to give a little knock on them. Once you start using the tool, it becomes very easy. It's actually quite easy to use. The problem that I run into is documentation. The documentation could be a little bit richer. Documentation has always been a little pet peeve for me with them.""While knowledge is a factor, both technical support and training need a significant overhaul.""The solution does not export reports in a comprehensive format."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The solution payment model is based on how many users use it. This is not an expensive solution, but it can depend on how long we use it. However, if the price was decreased it would be helpful."
  • "We have an enterprise license agreement with Microsoft. Their pricing is competitive. I would rate it a three and a half out of five."
  • "The solution itself is free but you need to pay for the Microsoft Azure infrastructure and host your domains in Azure to use it."
  • "The solution's price is reasonable."
  • "The price is low and it's a reasonable price for that product."
  • "Azure DNS is a cheap solution, and I rate it a two out of ten for pricing."
  • "We use the tool's free version."
  • "To use Azure DNS, I need to buy the license meant for Windows Server."
  • More Azure DNS Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Adaptive DNS's price depends on your network ranges, the services you want, and the level of support you require."
  • "Overall, it's a decent price for the product. There are other vendors that have support models and costs that are, sometimes, double what Bluecat charges."
  • "They're competitive. The way they run their model is good. Could it stand some tweaking? Sure. There are some items there. One of the things I looked at in the recent past was their container solutions. You have to pay for licensing to use their containerized platform, but the licensing doesn't include the container licensing itself. I'd love to be able to have one big package per se."
  • "Compared to other solutions, BlueCat Integrity offers a competitive price."
  • "BlueCat Integrity meets our expectations and aligns with our budget forecast."
  • "Overall, I would say that it is priced fairly, though perhaps a bit on the high side."
  • "We paid around $5,000 per year for SolarWinds, and now we pay around $20,000 per year for BlueCat, but we have less downtime and fewer issues with DNS and DHCP."
  • "While BlueCat falls on the expensive side, its exceptional customer service and consistent quality justify the cost."
