We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable feature of Checkmarx Software Composition Analysis is the comprehensive security scan.""I appreciate the user-friendly interface. The GUI is excellent, providing detailed information on outdated versions, including version numbers and the flow of library calls. This allows me to plan and prioritize library changes based on potential vulnerabilities, even if the affected library is indirectly used in my project. The tool offers specific guidance on addressing these issues.""The tool's visual scan analysis shows me all the libraries' vulnerabilities and license types. It helps identify the most complex issues with licenses. It provides good visibility. SCA shows me all libraries that are vulnerable and the extent of their vulnerability.""What's most valuable in Checkmarx Software Composition Analysis is its ability to identify vulnerabilities in open-source components, especially if some critical issues exist.""The integration part is easy...It's a stable solution right now.""The customer service and support were good.""What's most valuable in Checkmarx Software Composition Analysis is that it provides security from the start. In the traditional approach, an enterprise or company validates the solution before launching to a production environment, but in the modern approach, security must be checked and provided from the beginning and from the design, and this is where Checkmarx Software Composition Analysis comes in. The solution helps you make sure that every open-source application that you use is secure, and that there's no vulnerability inside that open-source application.""The product is stable and scalable."

"It's a great toolbox where the CI/CD pipeline is the fundamental component, but there are so many other features that you can pull from, which makes it a very powerful tool. My current client is using AWS, and they can, of course, use AWS CodePipeline, but GitLab is much more mature than that, and it also gives you the freedom to decide to go to another platform or have a multi-cloud strategy and things like that. That freedom for me is also very valuable.""I find the features and version control history to be most valuable for our development workflow. These aspects provide us with a clear view of changes and help us manage requests efficiently.""Of all available products, it was the easiest to use and easy to install.""The most valuable features of GitLab are the CI/CD pipeline and code management.""The scalability is good.""For us, Gitlab's most valuable feature is the integration with Cypress. We're using Cypress as an automation tool, so we're using GitLab as a tool for running in parallel.""The most valuable features of GitLab are the review, patch repo, and plans are in YAML.""It is very useful for reviews. We are using branch merging operations and full reset operations. It is also very useful for merging our code and tracking another branch. The graph diagrams of Git are very useful. Its interface is straightforward and not too complex for us."

Cons
"Checkmarx Software Composition Analysis should improve dynamic analysis.""In terms of areas for improvement, what could be improved in Checkmarx Software Composition Analysis is pricing because customers always compare the pricing among secure DevOps solutions in the market. Checkmarx Software Composition Analysis has a lot of competitors yet its features aren't much different. Pricing is the first thing customers consider, and from a partner perspective, if you can offer affordable pricing to your customers, it's more likely you'll have a winning deal. The performance of Checkmarx Software Composition Analysis also needs improvement because sometimes, it's slow, and in particular, scanning could take several hours.""I have received complaints from my customers that the pricing could be improved.""API security is an area with shortcomings that needs improvement.""I would rate the scalability a seven out of ten.""Instant updates for end users to identify vulnerabilities as soon as possible will make Checkmarx Software Composition Analysis better. The UI of the solution could also be improved.""Some of the recommendations provided by the product are generic. Even if the recommendations provided by the product are of low level, the appropriate ones can help users deal with vulnerabilities.""It can have better licensing models."

"We have only seen a couple of issues on Gitlab, which we use for building some of the applications.""I would like to see static analysis also embedded in GitLab. That would also help us. If there's something that it does internally by GitLab and then that is already tied up with your pipeline and then it can tell you that you're coding is good or your code is not great. Based on that, it would pass or fail. That should be streamlined. I would think that would help to a greater extent, in terms of having one solution rather than depending on multiple vendors.""The price of GitLab could improve, it is high.""As GitLab is not perfect, what needs improvement in the solution is the Wiki feature of the groups or the repertories because currently, it's not searchable by default. You'll need an indexing service such as Elasticsearch to make it searchable, and that requires too much work, so for me, it's the main feature that should be improved in GitLab. In the next version of the solution, from the top of my head, the documentation could be improved. Besides the Wiki, it would be good if there's documentation that would be automatically generated based on the code repository. In other words, there should be some tutorials from GitLab for developers in the next release.""I don't really like the new Kubernetes integration because it is pretty focused on the on-premise environment, but we're in a hybrid environment.""Reporting could be improved.""Atlassian offers more products than GitLab. GitLab offers source control management, version control and collaboration between developers. Atlassian offers features on top of this as well as more integration points for developers.""The user interface could be more user-friendly. We do most of our operations through the website interface but it could be better."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It is a little bit high priced. It would be better if it was a little less expensive."
  • "Pricing for Checkmarx Software Composition Analysis needs to be competitive."

  • "My customers need to pay for the licensing part, and they need to opt for an annual subscription."
  • "We don't have a license. The usage is limited to one, two, three, five, or ten people. It is currently used for all projects, and there are plans to increase its usage."

    Overview

Checkmarx Software Composition Analysis (SCA) helps organizations manage the risks associated with open source and third-party components in their software applications. While leveraging open source libraries and third-party dependencies is common practice, it can also introduce security vulnerabilities and license risks.

Checkmarx SCA offers a multifaceted approach to managing these risks by:

    • Automatically scanning project repositories, build configurations, and manifests to create a comprehensive inventory of all components, including version information and associated licenses.

    • Performing vulnerability assessments on each component, including identifying and prioritizing actual exploitable or reachable vulnerabilities.

    • Protecting organizations from software supply chain attacks involving malicious packages, such as the XZ Utils backdoor.

    • Identifying licenses associated and providing insights into license obligations, restrictions, and potential conflicts.

    • Integrating seamlessly into existing development workflows and CI/CD pipelines.

    • Providing actionable remediation guidance to help organizations address identified vulnerabilities and compliance issues effectively.

GitLab is a complete DevOps platform that enables teams to collaborate and deliver software faster.

It provides a single application for the entire DevOps lifecycle, from planning and development to testing, deployment, and monitoring.
