We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Commvault's Command Center is one of the best solutions out there. You can rely on Commvault solutions for the most complex and most demanding environments.""The solution’s user interface for managing the on-prem environment is good.""I like the product because of its simplicity and the fact that it provides one single interface for managing everything, including storage, data, and policies.""The embedded deduplication engine is really good because we use a Near Line SAS disk as a repository for our backups, and we don't need to pay for another appliance such as a Data Domain or Quantum so that we can have hardware-based deduplication.""One valuable feature is unlimited backup. You can back up existing users and folders.""It's easy to configure multiple jobs and media agent locations for each server. We do offsite backups for all of our servers, but we also do onsite hourly backups of them. That has benefited us several times when we had an incident and didn't want to roll back a server an entire day.""Its compression and deduplication allow us to store more backups and save storage space. The reporting is great; we are able to obtain critical business reports and infrastructure/usage information very easily.""The compression and deduplication are great for optimizing bandwidth and speed. I don't have to worry about it or think about it, and, because it's a SaaS solution, I don't have to worry about the storage size."

"Another very important part of insightIDR is the ability to collect data from endpoint devices via agent software. With a large remote workforce, this allows visibility into the endpoints that are connected to the internet, but not to the corporate network.""I am able to run automated actions based on the output of reports, leaving me extra time to focus on more pressing matters.""The product works well. Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.""I like that it's a cloud-based solution.""The log aggregation and storage provided by InsightIDR has shown no issues with scalability; aggregating over one hundred millions events daily.""Very intuitive and easy to set up.""We were able to identify criminals attempting to login from China and put a stop on their IP locations.""The solution provides satisfying native integration features"

Cons
"It takes a lot of steps to implement backups. We have to do a lot of planning to make the solution work properly. It takes some time to create every policy. It's an easy task, but there are many steps. It's not as easy as using Veeam.""They need to integrate configuration screens or videos (free training courses, webinars, demos) so that engineers with little experience can fully exploit the features that are offered or managed within the license that was acquired, and thus have better quality and completely satisfactory experience.""Not everyone has agents for everything and Commvault has agents for most products. It's the most complete.""Just to keep it running is time-consuming. There are five people on my team. Commvault was supposed to be one of the less time-consuming solutions, but in reality it takes 60 percent of our time just to keep it running, and that's not even fine-tuning it; that's just to keep it running.""Sometimes, we have a performance issue with the backup speed. So, that has to be rectified and improved.""The functional integration could be better.""It would be a bit unfair to say that it's complex, due to the fact that it supports so many different workloads, however, if there's anything that is a bit of a shortcoming, then it's the fact that there's a bit of complexity involved when dealing with the product.""The initial setup is rather complex, especially when switching versions."

"I would like to see more development in InsightIDR towards building their SIEM solution and converting it to XDR.""Currently, it lacks the functionalities provided by Rapid7's User Behavior Analytics (UBA).""Tenable Nessus is easier to deal with. It's more efficient and accurate. InsightIDR is heavier than Tenable in terms of performance and scanning. Rapid7 would be much easier to use if it had a network connector like Tenable. Tenable's connector allows continuous monitoring over the B caps.""It would be useful to import threat intelligence in YARA format along with known incorrect email addresses.""The interface for doing investigation needs to be enhanced with minor improvements that would make it more useful.""I feel it would greatly benefit from more supported log sources.""Inability to get access to compliance reports within the solution.""The APIs can be further improved in Rapid7."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "If budget allows using the per socket license and not the agent based with per GB counter for Dedup is the way to go."
  • "There is now a subscription based licence option that, depending on your environment, could offer a more efficient method to licence the solution if you are OPEX cost driven rather than CAPEX."
  • "New licensing is easy and affordable."
  • "Licensing could be better explained. Sometimes, it's unclear what features are available in different licensing models."
  • "Compared to other competitors and vendors the pricing is fair."
  • "In my experience, compared to solutions like Veritas and Veeam, while they do have their technical pluses and minuses, Commvault can save you on average forty percent initially, and then twenty to twenty-five percent annually."
  • "The price could perhaps be lower as well."
  • "Our cost is around $20,000 per month. The previous year, it was around $30,000 per month. It now costs less because Commvault changed the licensing type for providers."

  • "I am sure that there are cheaper products out there, but none that meet so many of our needs whilst maintaining stability and usability."
  • "The team is very willing to work with companies. My suggestion is to call the Rapid7 sales department and see how they can help."
  • "Licensing is straightforward. If, for some reason, you don’t meet the minimum licensing requirements, there is a third-party managed service that can help."
  • "Accurately predict your licensing counts as this is a subscription based product."
  • "The pricing and licensing are competitive."
  • "Licensing is by endpoint and amount of retention time (at least ours is). Default retention was one year, but we are able to push the retention further if needed. There's also a provide-your-own-S3 option for longer retention if you don't want to pay for the additional retention years in your Rapid7 agreement."
  • "It is a reasonably priced solution."
  • "It is on a yearly basis. For our own company, for about 250 users, it was 16,000 euros a year."
