We compared Datadog and Splunk ITSI (IT Service Intelligence) across several parameters based on our users' reviews. After reading the collected data, you can find our conclusion below:
Comparison Results: Users commend Datadog for its intuitive interface and adaptable AI/ML capabilities, but some users complain that the setup was too involved and the learning curve too steep. Splunk earned high marks for its automated dashboard creation and correlation search. At the same time, reviews suggested that Splunk could improve dashboard queries and API-based integration.
"The visibility that it provides is valuable. It is helping in being proactive around incident management. It is helping us to be able to get more visibility into our customers' applications so that we can assist them at the application layer. We also provide them the infrastructure from an AWS standpoint. We are able to make sure that our customers are aware of certain critical things around the analytical piece of either the network or the application. We're able to call customers before they even know about the issue. From there, we can start putting together some change management processes and help them a bit."
"It has empowered all our platform engineers with a very powerful and easy to use monitoring system."
"It is easy to navigate the menu and create tests."
"The application performance monitoring is pretty good."
"It lets us react more quickly to things going wrong. Whereas before, it might have been 30 minutes to an hour before we noticed something going on, we will know within a minute or two if something is off, which will let us essentially get something back up and running faster for our customers, which is revenue."
"It is great that creating an incident is possible from Slack while having all the relevant data in Datadog."
"Its integration definitely stands out. It provides seamless monitoring of all our systems, services, apps, and whatever else we secure and monitor. Visualizations have become simpler with dashboards. We are getting visibility into systems, services, and apps stack through a single pane of glass, which is good. We are able to put logs in context."
"It has saved us a lot of trouble in implementation."
"Splunk Episodes are valuable because it correlates and aggregates all the information, and you do not have one million events to look at and triage, so it is quite convenient."
"The root cause analysis is very helpful for us."
"Our mean time to detect is down to five minutes."
"The most valuable aspect lies in its utilization of predictive analytics to anticipate and prevent incidents within a window of twenty to thirty minutes."
"One of the excellent features is the service analyzer, which is truly impressive."
"One particularly useful feature of Splunk ITSI is the ability to create custom services."
"We have a lot of teams using Splunk and they would be blind without it."
"Splunk ITSI helps us secure our environment by allowing us to create automatons that run when alerts are triggered."
"In the past two years, there have been a couple of outages."
"The on-premise version is very difficult to upgrade."
"Graph filters for logs need to be set manually which works well for JSON but not for unstructured logs."
"Deploying the agents is still very manual."
"It would be great if usage metrics were automatically created and we could create custom metrics, instead we ended up building some of our own stuff to track and alert on our own usage."
"Datadog does not have the feature where you can monitor external websites or check the SSL secure for websites."
"The more tools that they can build that allow you to run AWX playbooks, or other similar fixes, would benefit clients greatly."
"Additional metrics should be included."
"Splunk ITSI generates numerous false positives and has the potential for enhancement."
"The dashboard queries should be improved. More queries should be suggested in order to produce better dashboards."
"ITSI could benefit from a security model that would allow operations team members to get involved in model building, KPI implementation, and model maintenance, while maintaining appropriate segregation of duties."
"The license cost is expensive."
"We also faced challenges relating to UI development."
"I believe the refresh time should be faster."
"We experience occasional delays in receiving solutions from Splunk technical support. Splunk's support for P3 cases seems inadequate, as they frequently switch support personnel. For instance, in a single P3 case, we had three different technical support representatives assigned. We were ultimately forced to escalate the issue to our account manager to get it resolved. In essence, we never receive complete support from a single point of contact; instead, the support team keeps changing, necessitating us to explain the problem from scratch each time."
"The end-to-end visibility in Splunk ITSI is limited and has room for improvement."
