We performed a comparison between IBM Db2 Database and MySQL based on our users’ reviews in five categories. After reading all of the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.
Comparison Results: MySQL is easy to use and free to download. In contrast, some reviewers feel that IBM Db2 is costly and not intuitive.
"The solution's initial setup is straightforward."
"Some of the most valuable features are the scaling from a small very cheap installation to a very large enterprise installation. In addition, the backups and assistance are good."
"The most valuable aspect of this solution is its stability. We have never had any problems and have never had to contact technical support."
"It's very secure."
"The solution has many beneficial features, such as security, support, and stability."
"We are dealing with millions of transactions a month and the performance is very good."
"The solution is stable."
"Reliable, robust with great features."
"MySQL is a scalable tool. Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a nine out of ten...The solution's technical support is good. I rate the technical support a nine out of ten."
"MySQL is open-source. There are a lot of open-source communities trying to come up with their own patches, and to come up with their own features, which help MySQL develop faster than traditional databases like Oracle, which is closed source."
"It is a very stable solution. I deployed the product six years ago, and it still works fine."
"MySQL is easy and convenient for me. I don't need to rely on anyone. I can write the code and extract the information. It is fast if you know how to use it. The solution is not expensive, and most of the developers know how to use it. It is easy to create tables. The solution is stable and has good performance. The connection with AWS gives regular updates, which is manual otherwise and a nightmare."
"It is free, which is probably its most valuable feature. It is a pretty full-featured relational database. It really does everything we need it to do."
"It is very easy to install and has all basic database features."
"The product is flexible and easy to use."
"MySQL is a light database. It's not very complex. It's easy to develop, easy to maintain, and easy to back up and restore."
"Do not use support. Freely available documentation is a bit weak."
"The solution could improve by providing more integration."
"The price should be lower."
"Db2 interface could be improved a bit. Comparing it to Oracle, Db2's interfaces could be improved."
"Its process of building up queries could be more accessible."
"The tool is not easy to use. It needs to improve scale computing so that the tool can be scaled vertically. The product needs to enhance pre-engine optimization and it needs to be more efficient in completing queries. The documentation should be updated to include different scenarios of deployment."
"The application development requires a Java developer and not every company has these resources."
"The only drawback that we see in Db2 Database is the crash recovery. When there is a crash and somebody has to do the recovery, Db2 Database first stops, and then it does any crash recovery. In Oracle Database, crash recovery happens within the database. The database is not shut down."
"I would like to have features that allow us to jump between the cloud and our on-premises system."
"I feel that some tools which make it easier to create queries or make it easier for other functions would be really interesting to see."
"Improvements are required in character set support, scalability, and big data sets."
"Sometimes, not because the version is not the latest version, there are some issues with it. Sometimes there's an issue with the server which creates issues with it."
"Even for the best database, we always want the database to perform much better, so we wish MySQL would be much better, in terms of performance."
"I would like to see some improvements in the solution’s integration aspects."
"It would be helpful if there were a graphical user interface to administer, configure, and tune it."
"The GUI could improve in MySQL."
