Pros
"The reliability is the most valuable feature. It is also user-friendly."

"One of the most valuable aspects is its seamless integration with Azure Data Factory.""Its technical support team is good.""This solution provides more comfort to the end-user compared to a normal SQL server.""The most valuable feature of the solution is that our customers do not have to manage the solution.""We have come from hosting on-premise for customers, or they've done it themselves with SQL. We've now taken a cloud offering for the equivalent services of standard database management and the inbuilt backup and restore offerings. The scalability is probably the biggest feature that we are benefiting from by being in the cloud.""The reason we moved to the cloud was for the convenience of not having any physical hardware to maintain.""The most valuable aspect of SQL Azure is the SQL language itself. It's open and everybody can use it at my company. Also, we thought in the beginning that the response time would be inadequate, but it's actually decent. It's much better than expected. Then again, I'm not a programmer, but that's what I hear from our development team.""What I like about SQL Azure is that it's similar to your on-premises SQL databases. It's not much different, so it's easy to start quickly on the solution if you know Microsoft SQL. I find its ease of use most valuable, and I also like that SQL Azure is also easily integrated with the Azure Cloud platform."

Cons
"I would give their support a ten if they had more tutorials available."

More IBM Db2 on Cloud Cons →

"I was using a user list for connecting a program in OTF for getting information. The connection in SQL Azure can improve by being easier because at the moment I have to use private certificates for user authentication. I had to do additional configuration to have the connections.""This solution would be improved with the inclusion of better self-service tools.""One of the nice features in Microsoft SQL Server is the SQL Server CLR, which we sometimes need to use to protect our procedures using C# or CLR. This is not available in the SQL Azure database.""From a security perspective, although their features are decent, they can always be improved upon, updated, and refined to help protect clients better.""It should have better profiling capabilities.""The solution could improve by supporting more operating systems.""Integration needs to be improved for this solution.""Lack of flexibility for developers in terms of performance assistance."

Pricing and Cost Advice

  • "We have a three-year contract. The cost was somewhere around $70-80,000 for the original deployment, which was about two years ago"
  • "I'm not sure what the exact price is, but it's a moderate amount. It's not too expensive."
  • "The licensing for this solution is based on subscription."
  • "We pay less than $1000 monthly in licensing fees. There are no additional costs."
  • "It is expensive for us. We are looking for something less expensive and thinking of migrating the whole system."
  • "It is reasonable."
  • "It is quite expensive. I would definitely recommend not using the pay-as-you-go model because this will just mean all your money will go to Microsoft. So, really make sure to control resource usage as much as possible."
  • "It's reasonably priced and when you compare it with other products in the cloud environment, it's cheaper."
