We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The change in the way that Quorum processes data has made a tremendous improvement in backup and replication times. While the familiar interface remains, the underpinnings have been finely tuned and the speed is incredible. My large Exchange Server went from 5- to 6-hour backups down to 22 minutes.""From a disaster-recovery point of view, one of the things I really like is that I can test the virtual copy of the physical server on a test network and compare the servers side-by-side, without interfering with the production network. So I can see and make sure that the latest copy of the server is the physical copy of the server, without interfering with production.""The most valuable feature of this solution is its ease of use.""When it comes to recovering what you need from a backup, it's really easy. You just drill through the directory, find the file and the date that you want, and click to recover. You then pick the directory you want to save it in. Usually, it takes a minute or two and it's done. It's quick and easy.""The solution is very cost effective.""A very high level security environment for secondary data.""The most useful feature is the one-click recovery.""It is a stable solution."

"Setting up VMs can be done quickly. It is easy to use.""Technical support is very proactive and helpful.""The initial setup is easy depending on the environment you are working with.""The most valuable features are the backup and disaster recovery services.""We feel the ability to move virtual machines while they are still running to be the most valuable feature."

Cons
"There was a situation I faced in the past when I contacted the tool's support team, and it took them a while to respond.""Quorum OnQ can be improved by providing support for other operating systems like Ubuntu.""We found that some of the live SQL databases we were backing up would be inconsistent when we would restore them.""At times the email notifications don't go out, but a quick reset always fixes that problem.""Quorum OnQ's user interface is not very attractive and should be made more attractive.""The user interface needs to be improved.""The price of Quorum OnQ could be improved. We were exploring the product in terms of having a partnership with the distributor so that we could operate as a service, but for our own use, within the company, we couldn't justify the price unless the servers would become an option later on. The upfront cost of purchasing a license for the hardware is quite steep.""I would like to see iSCSI support added so that NAS storage servers could be protected. We heavily utilize NAS storage and the risk there is minimal backup options. Currently, we are backing up NAS to NAS which is costly and slow. Being able to integrate NAS server backup would be the last item on my Quorum bucket list."

"The improvements should be as per customer requirements.""It would be ideal if they added advanced analytics or AI to the solution.""VMware Cloud Disaster Recovery could improve by enhancing the network bandwidth from the storage.""When starting up the replication and converting it to the virtual machine I had some problems. I had to start the process again and that is inconvenient.""The automation should be simplified or improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "We have never questioned whether it is worth it because it so obviously is a great value."
  • "When we first got the Quorum the licensing was different."
  • "The cost is higher than other software and services, but it is an absolute must-have."
  • "The total for our current solution's licensing is about $14,000 for 12 servers for three years."
  • "The pricing is about $1,400 a month. It's a little bit on the higher side. But it's one of those situations where time is valuable for me. So if it costs a little bit more money for me to have a solution that just works and requires less of my day-to-day management, I'm willing to pay a little bit more."
  • "The initial expenditure for us was a little under $40,000 for the recent renewal. For the first three years after that, other than electricity, there's no cost. After that, their support contract has to be renewed annually. We spent close to $6,000, between the two offices, for support."
  • "When we quote the price of Quorum to customers, they find it expensive."
  • "The upfront cost of purchasing a license for the hardware is quite steep."
