We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"You can record your actions and play them back later.""Recording and playback of tests were easier with SmartBear TestComplete...It is a scalable solution.""It works very fine. It is fast on almost any machine, and it is also very well organized. I like its object mapping and its capability to find and interact with almost everything that exists on Windows.""The product's initial setup phase was easy.""This company offers end-to-end capabilities for test suite creation and execution. One feature that I particularly appreciate is the tagging system. Tags are highly valuable, as they allow you to assign tags to your test cases. When there's an impact in a specific area, you can search for and run all test cases associated with that tag. I find this functionality very useful.""Selenium integration.""When compared to other tools, it is very simple.""The product is stable for what we are currently using it for, and it is sufficient for us."

"It's integrated with different technologies, desktop applications, package solutions like SAP, and mobile applications.""As a codeless automation tool, the product offers a user-friendly experience without requiring extensive coding knowledge. Users can easily handle various applications, including web applications, SAP applications, Windows applications, and even Salesforce applications, without manual coding.""Tosca BI is important to make sure that our data integrity is in check and validated; to make sure our data is good. Our data is the number-one important driver for our company, so if that's not good, we have some big problems.""The model-based scriptless automation is the most valuable feature because it needs less maintenance as compared to script-based automation.""I am impressed with the product's script test.""The most valuable feature is being able to create a test case by recording some scenarios and then leasing that task case to other scenarios.""The most valuable feature of Tricentis Tosca is it is a completely scriptless automation tool, which I liked a lot. They keep on continuously improving their tools, wherever we are facing any challenges they are able to provide a solution for it. It is easy to learn, everyone can easily read and understand what is happening with the scripts. Any business user or function tester can use the tool efficiently. This is a complete solution package.""The solution is script-less, so you don't need IT knowledge to use the solution in an operational way. This is the most valuable feature. It's also only one of two or three tools that can do good automation on SAP, and in my opinion, it's the best of those."

Cons
"In scenarios where two of our engineers work on the same task, merging codes is a bit difficult.""Headless testing would be a big improvement.""The initial setup of SmartBear TestComplete was complex.""One notable drawback is the absence of native integration with Git.""If that engine could better identify more XPaths automatically and make the process more flexible, that would be better.""Error handling features in the tool are a little limited.""We were testing handheld barcode scanners running WindowsCE with many menus of warehouse functions, and our biggest problem was the timing between input and responses.""The artificial intelligence needs to be improved."

More SmartBear TestComplete Cons →

"Not being able to mask test data in relation to testing data management, in my opinion, is also a limitation.""They can make it more stable. I have used this tool for SAP applications. They have an alliance with SAP, and it mostly worked fine, but there were a few glitches. However, we got the required support from the Tricentis team. They are coming up with their new versions and upgrades with respect to how the Tricentis systems as cloud applications are updated, and it would be good if they have a robust accelerator pack.""Tricentis Tosca could improve on the ease of use. There is a steep learning curve. The reporting section could be better and some of the new features could be simplified. Additionally, the user management of the client and the server are confusing. There should not be two.""Tricentis Tosca’s technical support could be improved.""Tricentis Tosca could improve on its mobile automation solution.""With regard to areas of improvement, report customization should be easier. It would be good if Tosca could provide standard reports for at least 20 variants. At present, there are only three to four variants. The mobile engine needs to be faster and easier to use; it is a bit cumbersome. Also, the object identification in the mobile engine needs improvement. I would like to see easy-to-use customizations for reports in the next release.""The support we received from Tricentis Tosca was good, but it can improve.""In terms of areas for improvement, Tricentis has a variety of tools, even its test management tool called qTest. Tricentis Tosca does have integration with different Tricentis tools, but the integration is geared towards a larger organization perspective. For very small organizations that have minimal licenses, the integration needs to be improvised. For example, I belong to a smaller organization that has only one license, so the capability that the tool provides for integration isn't sufficient because my company needs to have separate workspaces. When Tricentis Tosca is going to be running, it is going to use that license, but my company wants another separate workspace to record, relay, and test. This is what my team has been struggling with, and the mechanism is probably there, but that needs more time and investigation, so I can't say that I'm one hundred percent certain that Tricentis Tosca, in terms of integration for a smaller organization is insufficient. Another area for improvement is that Tricentis Tosca is currently just a Windows-based tool which affects the market because nowadays, Windows isn't the only operating system, for example, there's also Apple or IOS that's moving much faster than Windows."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The product is becoming more and more expensive."
  • "My advice so far, is that while it’s not quite as powerful and easy to use as UFT, its price tag more than makes up for it."
  • "The price is less, compared to other products, such as QTP."
  • "Buy modules on demand. If you have a four-person team and they will each automate tests only 25% of the time, it's better to buy a floating licence and share the tool during the work day."
  • "TestComplete now have come up with three modules (Web, Desktop & Mobile), so based on the type of product for automation, it is adequate to purchase the required module."
  • "This is a pay-per-use service that is not expensive, and cost-efficient if you have a small team."
  • "The option we chose was around $2,000 USD."
  • "The licensing costs are in the range of $1,000 to $3,000."
  • More SmartBear TestComplete Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "It is an expensive tool compared to other test automation tools. It has a lot of advantages over other tools."
  • "Expensive, but for long-term projects, it is paying back."
  • "The pricing is high, but altogether it offers you the ability to automate all sorts of applications: desktop, web, mobile, etc."
  • "We hired a consultant to figure out all the tools in our company and how they fit in our company before we purchased the solution."
  • "Tricentis Tosca may be relatively on the higher side in terms of pricing, but their sales rep can give pretty decent deals when asked."
  • "We have around 200 [concurrent] licenses and the cost around $1.4 million a year."
  • "My understanding is that it's an expensive product, although I don't know the specifics with regards to pricing."
  • "I would like to see better costing packs. There are several features but USD $11,000 for one license is expensive."
