We performed a comparison between Veeam Backup & Replication and VxRail based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out what your peers are saying about Veeam Software, Zerto, Commvault and others in Backup and Recovery."They introduced a new feature called the Immutable Repository feature, which helps protect environments from malware attacks that target backup file extensions."
"The solution can work for companies no matter the size or scope."
"Recovery of backup data is the most valuable feature."
"It is a stable product with useful snapshot and replication features."
"The backups we have been receiving from Veeam Backup Replication on-premise have been good."
"This solution is very flexible and user-friendly — it's very good. It's very good with our virtual and physical infrastructure."
"The good thing about Veeam is that its initial setup and usage are straightforward."
"It is a straightforward solution. There is no need for a dedicated technical person to do the backup and replication. Veeam is very straightforward when it comes to doing the replication."
"VxRail is easy to deploy and easy to scale up."
"The cover points feature in VxRail is remarkable. It's unique. It has an intervention failover system as well as an automatic failover system, reaching clusters existing in VxRail. This makes all files act as a single file with a large and huge resource, and, of course, with customized administration, configuration, and resources. It provides automatic failover for redundancy and data recovery."
"VxRail can be used for application modernization."
"It helps simplify the management of VMware."
"Updating the product has been very easy."
"We were able to speed up our gaming software, which was a big plus."
"The tool's price is competitive and it is easy to use."
"The implementation was quick, we used a checklist and it took approximately one hour."
"I have also been struggling with the storage and in some cases I need to move things due to performance."
"We have had problems with some jobs. For example, when we have a VM with a large SQL Database, sometimes we cannot adjust the time for transaction logs to back up and overlap time."
"The price can be better."
"The scalability of the product in large organizations is an area of concern where improvements are required."
"They need full cloud integration such that an on-premises backup can be offloaded to the cloud for storage."
"The web interface could be more visual."
"The initial setup of Veeam Backup Replication is straightforward. The process took approximately two days. The setup could be streamlined to take less time."
"Veeam Backup Replication has agents for Linux, but they are not supporting Cluster Shared Volumes. It would be great to have agents for Linux be cluster-aware, just like the Windows agents. That's the main pain point. In addition, we should be able to handle the automation of Oracle backups from the backup server. We should be able to schedule, control, and deploy them from the backup server rather than relying on scripts and/or the system you are backing up to perform the backup. Currently, we install the plug-in inside Oracle VMs and then use crontabs to handle the task schedule on each machine for scheduling the backups. Veeam Backup Replication should also support the automation of Nutanix backups from the backup server, not from the proxy. The other not so major thing is that they don't support legacy systems because Veeam is a new company. It is not as old as other companies. They don't support physical workloads that are really old, which a major challenge, but they do have a point. Legacy systems should be virtualized, and if they're virtualized, then the backup is not an issue with Veeam, but some customers like the physical setup, and they don't want to have it virtual."
"It can be a bit complex for engineers who are new to it. There's a learning curve involved. They have to learn to operate it."
"When we have a vulnerability or we need to upgrade VxRail, it takes a long time. It takes eight hours each time we upgrade."
"If they continue developing their product regarding VMware, it will be one of the best products in the HCI space. In terms of additional features, there is nothing missing because, for data protection, they also have the CDP option for VM. They can protect the VM at any point in time."
"What I did not like so much was the amount of VMware that you have to put in your system related to the VxRail."
"I would prefer it if each cell had a tool geared toward billing clients."
"The fact that is based on vSAN is the main issue of this solution."
"The solution is okay to scale vertically but a bit difficult to expend horizontally. For example, increasing RAM."
"The solution could improve by having more storage performance because in some other solutions you can have a file system that can be mounted at several places at one time."
