Gartner recently released the 2015 Magic Quadrant for WAN Optimization Controllers (WOC). In the report, Gartner says that Cisco's portfolio of WOC offerings spans physical and virtual appliances, router-based service modules, limited-function embedded router software and a SoftWOC. Along with its global distribution, Cisco remains a compelling choice for many network teams. Gartner recommends considering Wide Area Application Services (WAAS) for mainstream WOC deployments, particularly where price and router integration are primary criteria.
However, while Cisco's feature velocity has improved and deployment complexity has been reduced, it still lags behind the leading competition. WAAS performance tends to be more variable and less predictable than with other vendors, so it is important for buyers to test WAAS under production environments to ensure it meets expectations.
