Christian Gruetzner says in a NetApp Cloud Volumes ONTAP review
Architect, Storage Services at All for One Steeb AG
The high availability of the service is a valuable feature. We use the HA version to run two instances. That way there is no downtime for our services when we do any maintenance on the system itself. For normal upgrades or updates of the system - updates for security fixes, for example - it helps that the systems and that the service itself stay online. For one of our customers, we have 20 systems attached and if we had to ride that customer all the time and say, "Oh, sorry, we have to take your 20 systems down just because we have to do maintenance on your shared file systems," he would not be amused. So that's really a huge benefit. And there are the usual NetApp benefits we have had over the last ten years or so, like snapshotting, cloning, and deduplication and compression which make it space-efficient on the cloud as well. We've been taking advantage of the data protection provided by the snapshot feature for many years in our on-prem storage systems. We find it very good. And we offload those snapshots as well to other instances, or to other storage systems. The provisioning capability was challenging the first time we used it. You have to find the right way to deploy but, after the first and second try, it was very easy to automate for us. We are highly automated in our environment so we use the REST API for deployment. We completely deploy the Cloud Volumes ONTAP instance itself automatically, when we have a new customer. Similarly, deployment on the Cloud Volumes ONTAP for the Volumes and access to the Cloud Volumes ONTAP instance are automated as well. But for that, we still use our on-premise automations with WFA (Workflow Automation). NetApp has a tool which simplifies the automation of NetApp storage systems. We use the same automation for the Cloud Volumes ONTAP instances as we do for our on-premise storage systems. There's no difference, at the end of the day, from the operating system standpoint. In addition, NetApp's Cloud Manager automation capabilities are very good because, again, it's REST-API-driven, so we can completely automate everything. It has a good overview if you want to just have a look into your environment as well. It's pretty good. Another feature which gets a lot of attention in our environment is the File Services Solutions in the cloud, because it's a completely, fully-managed service. We don't have to take care of any updates, upgrades, or configurations. We're just using it, deploying volumes and using them. We see that, in some way, as being the future of storage services, for us at least: completely managed. View full review »
Macy Ozuna says in an Acronis Backup review
Network Administrator at a K-12 educational company or school
I would say my favorite feature with Acronis Backup software is creating one job that will backup all of our VM servers. We have about 50 servers and we need to get all of them backed up, and it keeps you from having 50 different backup jobs listed, backup tasks. You create one, and you go in, and you select all of the VMs that you want, or the ones that you don't want, you just leave them unchecked. Then, anytime you add in a new VM server to your environment it's very easy to just go in and add to that new server to the backup job that you already have, you don't have to create anything new, you just add it in, and you're good to go. Sanjeev Roy says in a Veeam Backup & Replication review
Project Manager at renaissance group
We evaluated different options and we picked the most significant one, Veeam. The main features about the Veeam Backup & Replication suite I like are: * If a Veeam image is copied to a replication machine, then Veeam automatically checks to see if ransomware attacked or not. * Veeam will automatically check if a file is corrupt or not. If a file is corrupt, then it will not make a backup copy to the replication server. That means the corrupt file is not copied to replication. * We have confidence that our replication image is good and not corrupted as VM machines. These are the significant features and there are a lot of features with Veeam. You need to first check out the Veeam website. View full review »

We migrated our servers from physical to virtual with our B2B platform. We had a big problem when trying to transfer our site server that was about six terabytes to the new environments. We wanted to do it with minimal effort and without changing the permission because if we do a copy, the permissions won't work. We put a Veeam Windows agent on these physical servers, did a backup and then we were able to take this backup as a drive that is connected to the new VM environment. It has helped us transfer the solution in two days instead of working for a minimum of one week to ten days. View full review »
John Demattia says in a Vembu BDR Suite review
Director of IT at MTSI, Inc.
The dashboard is very easy to use, setting up the backup is very intuitive. Since that's our primary purpose in using it, it made it easy, when I was doing evaluations a year ago, to choose the product. If I want to back up to this past Friday, and reinstall the file server to that state, I can choose a point in time and issue the command to back up and I don't need to go in and restore the last full backup and then apply iteratively, sequentially, all the incrementals, as I've had to do in some other software in the past. It's nice that I can pick a point in time and tell it I want to go to that state and it's transparent to me. It happens in the background for me. It's very easy to use, very quick and efficient. From a backup standpoint, it has provided us the tools we need on a daily basis to know that it's working properly and with almost no manual maintenance work from us to verify it. It just comes to us. It's been very positive, helping us address that need efficiently. View full review »

Rajkumar Neelakantan says in a Vembu BDR Suite review
IT Director at a marketing services firm with 201-500 employees
One thing I’m very much impressed by is the compression ratio. The rate at which it compresses the data during backup is really very good. In fact, I’d say it’s better than Symantec Backup Exec. I have Backup Exec, in my environment, and I have Veeam. Symantec is now Veritas, so I have played with all the backups, but the way in which this handles the compression is really one of the key features. It’s also very, very stable. I haven’t made any changes to it. I just installed and it’s working. I restored a couple of times, and everything seems to be fine. View full review »

* Supports peer-to-peer backup using Minio, which has allowed us to easily pre-seed and maintain an off-site backup within driving distance, making tactical recovery of accidental file deletions easy. * Supports a wide variety of back-end data storage providers. We use one of the big players for strategic backup in the event of a major infrastructure failure. * Client-side encryption minimizes worries about data being captured on the back-end. * Block level transfers have significantly reduced the amount of time for transfers over some other solutions. Macy Ozuna says in an Acronis Backup review
Network Administrator at a K-12 educational company or school
My favorite feature is that we use it for backing up our VMware environment and then, we just have a few physical servers. I like that I can configure a single backup so as to backup all the VM servers. I also like that it gives you a place for backing up to multiple locations of all the backup jobs/plans. Other features such as setting up the vaults, email notifications, restoring a full VM, restoring just down to files and folders (once you know exactly how to do it, it's very easy and quick to do) are also valuable. So, there are a lot of things that I really like about it. Special for IT Central Station Visitors: Free 30-Day Trial of Acronis Backup 12.5 View full review »

Russell Lynch says in a Zerto review
Systems Specialist at a insurance company with 51-200 employees
Zerto is packed full of useful features. The main feature is easy to manage, you will not need to be in Zerto day to day as it runs flawless. Zerto has a plugin to integrate seamlessly into VMware VSphere tab. I would highlight is the fact Zerto was used to migrate all of our VMs from one data center to another data center (two different physical locations) when we upgraded to new hardware. The migration was a breeze. My second valuable feature is being able to click just a few points in the program to initiate a test vm recovery at our DR location. After testing, all test VMs are deleted along with the data. This is automated, you do not need to interact with deleting VMs. In Zerto depending on your hardware and internet connection between your production site and DR site you can expect an RPO of 15 seconds. As of the summer 2016, Zerto just created an extremely fast way to recover files from their journal. Instead of going to our long term backup program and taking a half hour or longer to find a file, Zerto is getting me the file in 4min. This is making my life easier and keeping users happy. The most valuable aspect of the solution is the ability to connect to cloud providers. The solution is free of charge. It's integrated with Veem Backup replication. The deployment is quite simple. Users are generally happy because of the familiarity they have with the features. The solution offers good transparency for the end-user. View full review »
Tim Lillis says in a Zerto review
Sr. System Engineer at a non-tech company with 501-1,000 employees
The ease of failover and test environments has proven invaluable. It is literally as easy as pushing a button to flip to a contained test environment for staging roll-outs or verifying backup integrity. The upgrade process initially was tedious, making sure every VM host got updated separately, but now it is streamlined and a breeze. View full review »

I really like how you can test the failover as often as you need. The reports it generates are very good at showing our protection state. It is self-healing in case I mess up on something and need to re-sync. When you are protecting Terabytes of data, this comes in handy. View full review »
