The total ranking of a product, represented by the bar length, is based on a weighted aggregate score. The score is calculated as follows: The product with the highest count in each area gets the highest available score. (20 points for Reviews; 16 points for Views, Comparisons, and Followers.) Every other product gets assigned points based on its total in proportion to the #1 product in that area. For example, if a product has 80% of the number of reviews compared to the product with the most reviews then the product's score for reviews would be 20% (weighting factor) * 80% = 16. For Average Rating, the maximum score is 32 points awarded linearly based on our rating scale of 1-10. If a product has fewer than ten reviews, the point contribution for Average Rating is reduced (one-third reduction in points for products with 5-9 reviews; two-thirds reduction for products with fewer than five reviews). Reviews that are more than 24 months old, as well as those written by resellers, are completely excluded from the ranking algorithm.

What is most valuable?

Definitely ONTAP. The command line. It's super easy to use.

How has it helped my organization?

The ONTAP is so easy to use. I can do my tasks pretty easily on there. If someone needs something quickly I can give them what they need pretty quickly.

What needs improvement?

The one thing I would really like to see - I don't know if they offer this or not. I know EMC has got really good: their SRDF replication is really good for keeping consistency with your backups, or the other side. NetApp is crash consistent.... more»

What do you think of IBM Spectrum Scale?

Primary Use Case We use it a lot for sharing file systems between several Red Hat and AIX servers. It is mostly for different lines of business. It works pretty well. We have been using it for almost a decade now. It is actually one of the better products of IBM. We have seen applications come and go, but Spectrum Scale is one of those things where we have had more customers move into the product than other vendors' solutions. • Improvements to My Organization It makes our file system sharing a lot easier, even across different continents. We have had file systems shared across different continents with no performance degradation. In this sense, it has helped us.  • Valuable Features The ease of use and the stability of the product. It has been pretty reliable throughout...

What is most valuable?

Its great servicing high availability. That is what it is used for.

How has it helped my organization?

We need the CPU power to do all of our work. You can't do it on just one node. You need multiple nodes. That is what makes it beneficial. It provides more power. We have thousands of users. They need bandwidth to be able to do everything. If... more»

What needs improvement?

The main issue that we have now is with the encryption. They want to use more metrics in encryption, which is not working very well. Thus, we need to decide whether we need to actually use an IBM solution. However, that decision is way above... more»

What do you think of IBM Spectrum Scale?

Primary Use Case It is for distributed storage. I am implementing Spectrum Scale classes. My company is a service provider and does this for IBM clients. • Improvements to My Organization We use it just for clients.  • Valuable Features The most valuable feature is the scalability. It is very good.  The product is very mature. It has evolved through the many years, grown pretty stable, and versatile. • Room for Improvement It could be developed more in terms of ease of use. • Stability Issues The product has been well developed over a long time, therefore it is very stable. Though, it takes a little knowledge as to how to adapt new releases. So, a little wisdom is needed there. However, it is a very stable product. • Scalability Issues With Spectrum Scale...

What is most valuable?

It has less overhead. We do a lot of training on our SAS environment. We had JFS2 file systems, and we made things so fast that JFS2 could not keep up with it. It took us down to a crawl. Spectrum Scale reduced the overhead and allowed SAS to... more»

How has it helped my organization?

* Keeps the SAS people happy. * Keeps SAS running. * Allows us to share files across multiple environments: Unix and Windows. * Managing the environments outside of the high availability cluster has been huge. This pulls one more factor out... more»

What needs improvement?

It does everything we need it to do. Though, making it a little easier to add bad file sets would help. There is a transition to how you add storage and how you add a file set, so making that a little smoother would probably be my... more»

What do you think of NetApp ONTAP Cloud?

Valuable Features SnapMirror SnapVault Fast, persistent storage in the cloud • Improvements to My Organization It just gives us the capability to get cloud resources. The primary use case for ONTAP Cloud is getting data into the cloud. We are using the product for our future planning in the following: Disaster recovery in the cloud Backup in the cloud Development in the cloud. • Room for Improvement Just more scale out. It can only do two nodes. One SVM, which would be okay as long as I can scale easily. It needs to be matured with more capabilities. • Stability Issues So far, so good. • Scalability Issues It's limited. We're trying to figure out better methods as we need to scale out more. • Customer Service and Technical Support We have built-in...

What do you think of IBM Spectrum Scale?

Primary Use Case We use it for distributed file systems. • Improvements to My Organization We use it primarily in our SAP organization. It allows us to have a centralized location where we can put our files and distribute them among different applications. • Valuable Features We can have multiple systems within the same file system. The performance right now on the file system is better than NAS. • Use of Solution Three to five years. • Stability Issues Overall, the stability is pretty good. We do have some issues where Spectrum Scale does not work as expected. We have seen our Spectrum Scale servers go down unexpectedly, but because we have a cluster, it does not take out the entire organization. • Scalability Issues I do not think it is applicable. •...
