The total ranking of a product, represented by the bar length, is based on a weighted aggregate score. The score is calculated as follows: The product with the highest count in each area gets the highest available score. (20 points for Reviews; 16 points for Views, Comparisons, and Followers.) Every other product gets assigned points based on its total in proportion to the #1 product in that area. For example, if a product has 80% of the number of reviews compared to the product with the most reviews then the product's score for reviews would be 20% (weighting factor) * 80% = 16. For Average Rating, the maximum score is 32 points awarded linearly based on our rating scale of 1-10. If a product has fewer than ten reviews, the point contribution for Average Rating is reduced (one-third reduction in points for products with 5-9 reviews; two-thirds reduction for products with fewer than five reviews). Reviews that are more than 24 months old, as well as those written by resellers, are completely excluded from the ranking algorithm.

What do you think of IBM PureSystems?

PART I For a certain generation of IBM faithful or followers the recently announced PureFlex and PureApplication systems might give a sense of DejaVu perhaps even causing some to wonder if they just woke up from a long Rip Van Winkle type nap. Yet for another generation who may not yet be future IBM followers, fans, partners or customers, there could be a sense of something new and revolutionary with the PureFlex and PureApplication systems (twitter @ibmpuresystems). In between those two groups, exist others who are either scratching their heads or reinvigorated with enthusiasm to get out and be able to discuss opportunities around little data (traditional and transactional) and big data, servers, virtualized, converged infrastructure, dynamic data centers, private clouds,...

What needs improvement?

One thing that we find peculiar is, when you buy ConvergedSystem, it seems to be behind in the versions it supports. For example, vSphere 6 is just now being supported. OneView 2 is just now being supported, even though they have announced OneView 3. We're already a version behind. I know they're probably working and testing as quickly as they can, but we always seem like we're behind the curve with these new features that we know are out that we can't take advantage of and that are supported on the blades individually. They're supported on the blade system individually, but once you get the ConvergedSystem, all of a sudden, they're not supported. I understand that we want a rock solid infrastructure that's well-tested,... more»

What is most valuable?

For the converged system, HANA for SAP. OneView is very good too.

How has it helped my organization?

It begins with a simpler installation. It provides a more advanced way to approach enterprise IT. It's still a nightmare, like every other converged solution out there. But we have done data center consolidation and data protection, disaster... more»

What needs improvement?

We don't have any problems with it at the technology level. I can't think of any improvements they can make. I think they are doing pretty much what any other converged infrastructure services system can do. Perhaps faster allocation of... more»

What is most valuable?

* Dealing with multiple vendors can be tricky in multi-vendor setup. Having one vendor to deal with from a support perspective is a huge potential benefit when it comes to reliability and avoiding wasting time and money. * Finding a fully bundled, deployed, and configured solution with a short delivery time and unique support is really attractive. * As far as... more»

What needs improvement?

* The infrastructure is converged, but the teams, not so much. It is so complex that the converged infrastructure needs converged management. * While most public clouds are deployed on Linux, there is current no certified Vblock working on KVM hypervisors.

What is most valuable?

One of the biggest things is, the fact that it can be a turn-key solution. With the ConvergedSystem system, you've got a small 2U platform that supports your storage, networking, and also has your compute in it. The other nice thing about it is, because it's a small form factor, you reduce footprint in your IT data center. It helps with power and cooling issues.... more»

My biggest pet peeve with the HC250 are the descriptions that they put on our parts list. For example, multiple times now someone asked me, they said, "Hey, they want to take this option off the quote," and I said, "No, it's required." Then they came back to me and they said, "You know the customer, they don't believe you," and I said, "Okay." Basically, with... more»

What do you think of Vblock?

Primary Use Case Converged data centers. • Improvements to My Organization It's a little bit easier to maintain and easier when an upgrade needs to take place. • Valuable Features The integration between components, so that I don't have to worry about technology mismatches. • Room for Improvement The integration with other vendors' products needs to be looked at. It's not as flexible as we would like it to be. • Use of Solution Three to five years. • Stability Issues We haven't had any stability issues, but we have had compatibility issues with third-party packages. • Scalability Issues There are no issues from a scalability standpoint, except sometimes it gets to be on the costly side. • Previous Solutions We switched because we thought it was going...

What do you think of HPE ConvergedSystem?

Primary Use Case We implemented a complete system and then 3PAR storage solutions. We are very happy with the implementation. • Improvements to My Organization We had an old system, but it got to a point, because of age, and the data limitations, that backup times and operations were taking too long. After we migrated to this environment, everything changed. Our applications are performing at their best and the backup times have been reduced from about four hours to 30 minutes. • Room for Improvement We would like the system to be even faster. • Use of Solution One to three years. • Stability Issues Everything is intact, everything is perfect. • Scalability Issues We got it about three years ago. We have a policy that we don't scale. We use a system for about...

What do you think of Vblock?

Valuable Features VMware NSX: Provides the ability for our organisation to deliver true DR. • Improvements to My Organization Provides DR capability which we have never had before. • Room for Improvement The implementation and support could be better. • Use of Solution We have been using this for two years. • Stability Issues There were stability issues, such as various bugs. It was most noticeable with VMware NSX. • Scalability Issues There were no scalability issues. • Customer Service and Technical Support I would give technical support a rating of 3/10. • Previous Solutions We were looking to move to a strategic and consolidated tech stack and support model, which could support our ambitions of a private cloud. • Initial Setup The initial...

What is most valuable?

UCS Manager worked well for net/blade management and has allowed fairly easy use of dedicated bare-metal blades. VNX Unified performed as expected.

How has it helped my organization?

Troublesome relationships with VCE at the beginning of our use came undone quickly after we went live, making installs/adds/changes less than cohesive.

What needs improvement?

VCE tools, like Vision or AMP were not stand alone, and depended too much on other management consoles. RCM upgrades were not scripted, and you needed to roll on your own. We were led to believe this would be otherwise.

What is most valuable?

A unified platform of support, which expands easily and frees the staff to focus on our business and less on the complexities of a mixed hardware/software environment.

How has it helped my organization?

We have seen measurable increases in our system performance. Those increases have been directly measurable in application performance and the delivery of critical business information to our users.

What needs improvement?

Due to the complexity of the complete solution, there are many groups involved in delivering the complete solution. Tighter alignment could simplify and speed up the configuration and delivery process.

What do you think of Vblock?

Primary Use Case The primary use case is for virtualized Linux databases and an application server using Oracle 11g/12c. The primary reason for Vblock is for the performance and deduplication that we are getting across our production, test, dev, and training environments. • Improvements to My Organization It has improved system performance, batch times for off-hours processing, and reliability with production applications. • Valuable Features The XtremIO All-Flash array delivers performance, reliability, and deduplication. • Room for Improvement The patching process Timeliness of updates/releases Compatibility with current ESX versions • Use of Solution One to three years. • Other Advice I would have given it a higher rating except for how the patching and...

What do you think of Vblock?

Primary Use Case Enterprise private cloud for federal government in a high availability service with primary and secondary datacenters. • Improvements to My Organization I collaborated in a Vblock growth sizing and analysis. The scalability of the solution is interesting. • Valuable Features Capability for scale and growth within a single rack brings strong possibilities for capacity planning. • Room for Improvement OEM services requires too much planning and low availability of certified engineers. • Use of Solution One to three years. • Pricing, Setup Cost and Licensing Related to tech support: I believe it is too expensive.

What do you think of Vblock?

Primary Use Case Consolidation of physical and virtual server pockets in the data center across different OEMs. • Improvements to My Organization Access to VMs is now faster due to the centralized management console. Navigation is easy and self-explanatory. The high redundancy of components has minimized frequent service degradation/failure. • Valuable Features Management solution ViZ: UCS. • Room for Improvement User interface More customer/client involvement in back-end management. • Use of Solution One to three years.
