Gurudeva Kalledevarpurada B uses Amazon AWS
IT Solution Architect at a tech vendor with 51-200 employees
Features such as EC2, S3, EBS, Auto Scaling, Elastic Load Balancing, VPC (Virtual Private Cloud), RDS (Relational Data Service), Cloud Front, Cloud Formation, Elastic Bean Stack, etc., have been useful for the following reasons: * EC2: Supports various operating systems, CPU configurations, helps to produce flexible computing power at affordable, customizable rates. You pay for only what you use. No need to pay for unused extra capacity. Build only what you need and pay for only what you use. It can help save tons of dollars in infrastructure cost. * S3: Low cost, affordable, yet modern storage solution from Amazon. * EBS: Low cost, yet fast storage solution. It helps to store the needed data in the quickly accessible storage. Also, it helps defending against DDOS attacks. * Auto Scaling: Helps to quickly scale up, or scale down the capacity as needed. This would help in adding and/or removing computing capacity as per the need and helps reduce cost, yet provide a quick response as needed. * Elastic Load Balancing: Helps to build redundant, waiting systems for which the demand can be routed as needed. * VPC: Helps to define our own private cloud with marked input and output ports. Also helps in reducing the electronic footprint and defend against DDOS attacks. Helps to define the private cloud which will provide the needed security and privacy. * RDS: Helps to dynamically manage the database services. Helps to independently select and/or switch among various database providers such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, etc. RDS helps to free up administrators' time by automating tasks such as backup, maintenance, applying patches, scaling, and replication. * CloudFront: Helps to define cache of data across various locations and helps to improve the latency of applications. * Cloud Formation: This is the much needed tool for technical architects. Here one can define the technical architecture they need and play around with it until they get a working architecture. Then the working architecture can be copied, reutilized among different regions, business units, clients, etc. This saves cost and time, reduces errors, and improves efficiency. A much needed tool for administrators and architects. * Elastic BeanStalk: Helps to rapidly deploy applications across various platforms such as Java, .NET, PHP, Ruby, Python, Docker, etc. It also handles load balancing, auto-scaling, and application health monitoring. Douglas Augusto uses Google Compute Engine
Software Engineer at a tech services company with 201-500 employees
Compared to other IaaS providers, I believe that Google Compute Engine stands out with the ability to customize the virtual machines. With other providers, these are pre-determined specifications. With this you can create machines specific to your application. View full review »

Roman Nedzelsky, MVP uses Microsoft Azure
Senior Consultant | Architect at DHL
The most valuable feature is the possibility of using Microsoft and non-Microsoft services on one environment. For example, Windows servers, Linux servers, backup solutions from Veeam, etc. There is no one special feature for me, as it makes sense as a complete package. I would mention container services as well, as this is the most modern concept of bimodal IT. For example, doing development in companies without the need of building development servers. You can just using some special parts as micro-services and putting them together like Lego pieces. This is the real benefit of cloud and Azure. View full review »

Jose D. Domenech uses Jelastic
CTO at a tech services company with 51-200 employees
The horizontal and vertical auto-scaling feature, which does not involve changing anything in the code of the projects, is the most valuable feature. This helps developers to focus on improving their projects at the code level, without worrying about system administration. Several of our important customers who use Jelastic have highlighted this feature. Other valuable features include the advanced level of production-ready Docker hosting, one-click application deployment, and the truly flexible pricing. View full review »

Jack Mojapelo uses Mendix
Software Developer at a non-tech company
* The ability to rapidly build applications. * Built-in management tool called Sprinter gives everyone involved in the development of the application an overview of the current state and progress of the application being built. * Supports collaborative development which minimizes the risk of having multiple developers working on a single piece of code. * Easy to integrate with both RESTful and SOAP web services. This is helpful because a lot of applications are dependent on others for data. For example, if you were to develop an app that does a background check on employees, you would integrate to systems like TransUnion to feed data to your application. View full review »
Petar Vukmanovic uses Mendix
Software Business Engineer at a tech vendor with 11-50 employees
Mendix has made a great deal of effort to provide its developers a healthy, modern environment for developing. First of all, it adopts Agile methodology by creating a SCRUM-based app where you can handle your user stories. Next comes version control, which really allows multiple team members to collaborate quite easily. And last but not least, Mendix modeler, which is your IDE for developing Mendix apps. Speed and rapid software development within Mendix is a breeze. We at Intonovi absolutely love it. View full review »

Kirk-Johnson uses Mendix
Software Developer at a real estate/law firm with 51-200 employees
* Mendix code and coding logic are very visual. It looks like a flow chart rather than lines of code. Rapid development is what drew us to Mendix. * It is easy to create prototype pages without a lot of development, once the Entity (table) is created. * You can generate a page with a few clicks, using the default features after proof of concept, then develop the logic behind the page.
