#1 Veeam Backup & Replication
Veeam Backup & Replication is the #1 ranked solution in best Backup and Recovery Software, top Cloud Backup tools, and top Disaster Recovery Software for 2021.
An Account Manager at a tech services company says “Veeam Backup & Replication is a great alternative to what is out there. Some of the backups just allow an agent backup to the cloud. You can back up a thousand different ways, but this is a great way to keep a customer and a company in compliance in that they've got their data secure onsite and offsite. The data being transferred to the NAS at the customer's location and also the data being sent to the cloud is encrypted in transit and it's also encrypted at rest so that nobody is going to be able to hack into that. No one will have the keys to do that.”
Additionally, Kerem C., Director of Professional Services, Senior Solution Architect, Trainer at a tech services company, comments that “Veeam provides a single platform for modernizing backup, accelerating hybrid cloud and securing your data. Simple to install and run, flexible enough to fit into any environment and always reliable.”
#2 Zerto
Zerto is ranked the #2 solution in backup and recovery software.
Justin C., Director of IT at Arnott Inc., comments that "If we had to deal with a ransomware event, Zerto would be one of the first things I would use, because it is going to be the fastest to restore data to a certain point. If there were a fire in our building, Zerto would be a big thing too, because we would shut down everything that's in our building. In most cases, Zerto is definitely one of the front lines. It's definitely going to be one of our prevalent DRBC layers of protection.”
Reviewer John L., IT Director at Kingston Technology mentions that "If we lost our data center and had to recover it, Zerto would save us a great deal of time. In our testing, we have found that recovering the entire data center would be completed within a day.”
#3 Commvault
Commvault ranked #3 in best backup and recovery software for 2021.
Vladan K., Project Manager and Business Consultant at Comtrade System Integration, shares that "The most valuable feature is sharing data sets like they're in a private cloud. We call it our "private cloud" because we can share anything that is inside our backup set with our colleagues or with other people, and yet, everything is still in Belgrade, in Serbia. It's not somewhere else on cloud servers. Everything is in our environment.”
Kevin C., Co-Founder at Kelyn Technologies Inc.’s, opinion is that "The backup and restore capabilities are key. The most useful things to us about Commvault, in general, is the breadth of the applications that it can protect as well as the features inside of it, like deduplication and encryption. When people get their data encrypted, Commvault has a way to tell if somebody is being attacked through a cybersecurity threat because their data changes. So, Commvault has what they call honeypot files out there to look to see if anybody is changing these files. Only Commvault knows which files those are, so nobody should be messing with those files. If it changes, then it will alert you to say, "Oh, I potentially have somebody messing with my files." It will alert you to something going on in your environment that probably shouldn't be happening. We deploy that with all our customers so they have this capability as well.”
Others, like Brijesh P. Senior Architect, Cloud Infrastructure at a tech vendor, point out how Commvault is a good single solution for data recovery: "It provides us a good holistic view of everything that we have backed up so far. It also provides us with all the recovery points. If we look at an object that has been backed up, we can tell how many retention copies it has, how far we can go, and recover any data, if needed.”
#4 Rubrick
Rubrick is ranked as #4 for backup and recovery software.
Of all the features Rubrick has, Chadd B., System Administrator at a manufacturing company says “The most valuable feature is the Instant Recovery, where we can restore a VM or SQL database or any server or application, and have it up and running on their appliance within a few seconds.”
There are many other benefits users like about Rubrick, including: “Not having to specify a time to run a backup with a fixed schedule is something that's really beneficial. In the past we had to schedule and try to manually stagger things over the window, to back up everything. Because Rubrik is SLA-based, you say, ‘Well, I need it to fit in this window here,’ and it just backs it up when it's most convenient for the Brik and for the third-party system. It looks at the CPU usage and says, ‘Okay, it's not as busy now. I know I've got time to take the backup.’ - Kevin M., Head Of Operations at University of Reading
Another reviewer, who is a Senior Storage Administrator at an insurance company, says “When it comes to saving time managing our backups, Rubrik has saved us a lot of time compared to what we were using. It feels like it has saved us lifetimes of time because the process used to be difficult. It's not just the day to time savings. When something goes wrong, that's where the real time savings comes into play. We are able to get back to where we need to be more confidently and with much fewer steps.”
#5 Cohesity DataProtect
Cohesity DataProtect ranked as the #5 backup and recovery software tool for 2021.
Users of Cohesity DataProtect are really happy with the tool. One user, a Senior Infrastructure Specialist at an energy/utilities company, says "Cohesity is extremely easy to use and intuitive.”
Others, like Jon S., Infrastructure Architect at a pharma/biotech company, also see big advantages to it: "Instant recovery options are a big benefit for urgent restores, as we don't need to wait for hours or days for a restore to complete before being able to access the files.”
Jay S., Adjunct Professor at Southern New Hampshire University, mentions, "The most valuable features are the rapid VM restores and the ability to quickly find files and download them directly to my desktop so that I can put them where I need them to be.”
#6 Nakivo
Nakivo is ranked #6 for backup and recovery software tools.
Dustin P., IT Systems / Security / Communications Administrator at Bennett International Group, LLC says "Cloud integration is valuable because the ability to not only backup locally, but to the cloud, has been a great addition to the already fantastic product.”
A Leading IT Engineer at a tech vendor claims Nakivo is simple to set up with excellent pricing and great technical support. He also notes that "The user interface in general is very good.”
Others, like a System Administrator at Tecnoteca S.R.L., appreciate Nakivo’s speed: "The backups, especially of the incremental type, are really quick (ranging from five to 10 to 45 to 50 minutes depending on the size of the VM).”
#7 Veritas NetBackup
Veritas NetBackup was the #7 ranked solution in best backup and recovery software for 2021.
According to a System Engineer, "We are quite satisfied with the performance and reliability of the NetBackup product. When it comes to specific features, the most valuable is the Instant Recovery feature, which we call ‘short-term IR.’ Instant Recovery allows users to spin up backup images and bring back any VM instantly.”
PeerSpot user Johnny B., Principal at a venture capital & private equity firm, says "If you are running on a legacy tape environment, NetBackup is best.”
Mahdi B., Solution Architect, IT Consultant at Merdasco - Rayan Merdas Data Processing, expresses that "Our customers who have faced ransomware attacks were able to recover their data in less than one day without any stress. Veritas is ransomware resilient and because of its implementation, it is not dependent on the operating system to work.”
#8 Vembu BDR Suite
Last but not least, Vembu BDR Suite ranked at #8 in best backup and recovery software for 2021.
Assad A., Owner at Ali Network Solutions talks about what he likes most about Vembu: "I am able to run Vembu on Windows NAS, which is beneficial. It does install on a Windows-based NAS. You can have the server running from the location where you are storing backups. You don't need a separate server for it in this case.”
An IT Consultant at a retailer explains one of the reasons he chose Vembu BDR Suite: "When you're looking at your dashboard, you can see all your active jobs. You can see exactly if they're successful or failed and you can actually drill down and see what caused the problem. The fact you can see that right away is nice.”
Chukwu A., Team Lead IT Infrastructure & Support at Africa Prudential Plc, explains what he finds most valuable: "The main difference I see between Vembu and the other solutions we've tried is that with Vembu, you don't need anybody to tell you what to do. Once you have done the installation you just look at the user interface - it's very friendly - and you can do things yourself without resorting to help from anybody.”
