I would rate the pricing a seven out of ten, with ten being cheap.

When I was selling the equipment to customers, the product was more expensive than the average street price. I was working in a very specific market. The price perception might differ for different markets, countries, and regions.

NetApp Snapshot is expensive since you need to buy an additional premium license for it which is an extra cost over the payments made for NetApp, making it not a solution that is not cheap. The license works during the entire life cycle of NetApp Snapshot.

Basically, every answer here is correct. NetApp's solutions are not inexpensive, but the issue isn't really the cost of the snapshot technology so much as it is the value of NetApp's vision for data storage, data management, and data resiliency. Snapshots are only a small part of that vision. That said, no one in this space is out-innovating NetApp, and for what you receive, the price is reasonably competitive.

The price of the solution is reasonable but could improve. However, if you are in a country that has a poor currency then the price will be considered expensive. However, overall the price of the solution could be better.

The price of NetApp Snapshot depends on the use case. They charge by how much data you need, the capability, and for snap licenses.

SnapShot functionality itself is not licensed separately, so we can say that the cost is $0, or it's just included in the base price. You need a separate license (or license bundle) if you want additional functionality, for example, FlexClone (which is a read-write snapshot), or if you need to manage snapshots, for example, for backup purposes - in this case, you should purchase the additional software (SnapCenter or SnapManager). The cost of this functionality is not very high if you purchase it with the storage with the included license bundle. All-flash storages come with a flash bundle license which covers the most of features.

As far as their licensing costs, the licensing is paid on a yearly basis. The organization pays for the licensing based on the software and the capacity that they choose. Once the license expires, you can renew it for another year up to the time that the software is supported. As soon as the support ends for the software it is unavailable. You have to update the license and you need to re-purchase storage. Updating is really not an alternative anyway in a competitive market because technology is not stagnant. Technologies advance for many reasons and there are more capabilities available all the time. It is much better for the user if they make sure to keep tabs on the technological advancements.

We bought the license with the machine, so we put everything together and paid for a bundle.

The price of this solution is fair. It is not expensive.
