We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"In our DW/BI solution, ODI is the main tool to integrate the data in a daily batch way.""The tool improved our data integration workflow primarily due to its compatibility with Oracle. Its integration makes it very convenient for analytics. Its most valuable feature is robust extended capability. The solution's debugging capabilities are good.""Most of the functions are very straightforward, like the data model, mapping, package, and load plan. Thus, a new user could get started very fast.""It can integrate with more recent databases like Cassandra, Hadoop, and other more recent Big Data databases.""All ETL code is stored in repositories in underlying database schemas. The number of users can access and work on the same solution using a client tool. So distributed teams can work on this tool in an efficient manner.""All our systems can be widely integrated by ODI, such as transactional systems, our data warehouses, and B2B integration.""ODI is a very accessible tool, especially since the mapping functionality has been added.""I like that Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) has a straightforward setup and offers good technical support."

Cons
"It has been very good. Just recently, I've faced an issue, but I solved it somehow. While integrating with a file, I faced an issue where I wanted output files, and I had used the text field limited quotations, but at the end of the file, there was a line breakage for the last column. So, we just removed the text field because it was not working correctly for us.""Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) is already good as a solution. Still, it needs some editing of its preview package, or if the package is upgraded, that will make Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) even better.""We used a third party to do the implementation of ODI.""Overall the product is fine, but sometimes its reports unknown errors while we compile ETL scripts.""The initial setup is a bit complex compared to other tools.""It needs easier security.""Technical Support could be better.""There are certain things where it can be improved. Initial solution setup seems a bit complex at the start, it should be improved because it becomes bit tough for a novice to get started on this. Sometimes error description is not helpful to understand the problem it gives some generic type of errors which are at times not that helpful to understand the underlying root cause of the issue."

More Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) Cons →

"It has lengthy documentation, making the process of building applications more time-consuming.""The solution's customer service could be better.""The logging capabilities could be enhanced. Currently, logs are only retained for a few days, which can be inconvenient for administrators. Ideally, we'd like the option to configure log retention periods, like a month or fifteen days, instead of the current one-week limit.""They should provide tutorials for beginners to learn about the processes.""The solution doesn't currently have a fully fledged workflow feature like they have in OIM.""Lacks features for more complex integrations.""The support and resources were lacking — they weren't there.""The error retrying mechanism could be improved. If an error occurs, it can be retried automatically, it would be helpful."

More Oracle Integration Cloud Service Cons →

"Involving a data lake or data engineering aspects would be useful. While it is there, we need more features included.""I would like to see more standard components out of the box, such as SFTP, and Data Compression components.""Microsoft's technical support has decreased in quality over the last few years, becoming less responsive and tending to pass problems on instead of solving them.""There are a lot of things that Microsoft could improve in relation to SSIS. One major problem we faced was when attempting to move some Excel files to our SQL Server. The Excel provider has a limitation that prevents importing more than 255 columns from a particular Excel file to the database. This restriction posed a significant issue for us.""At one point, we did have to purchase an add-on.""The debugging could be improved because when it came to solving the errors that I've experienced in the past, I've had to look at the documentation for more information.""SSIS can improve in handling different data sources like Salesforce connectivity, Oracle Cloud's connectivity, etc.""I would like to see better technical documentation because many times information is missing."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Being an ODI developer, I never had to pay for this product. I know that the pricing/licensing is not really low, but the product is really good."
  • "We found that the cost compared to other integration tools is a little high, but the solution works great."
  • "The solution is expensive because of the model they use. The cost is for the license and for support."
  • "ODI comes included when buying the cloud version of the Oracle database license."
  • "There is a standard license to use the solution but there are other costs in addition, such as hardware and operating system."
  • "Per user, it is $900 USD per year, though they will give some discount. However, even a 60% to 70% of discount for each won't help us much. On top of that, there is the perpetual license you must pay at the outset."
  • "I have yet to determine the exact figure for Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) pricing, but it has lower pricing than Informatica."
  • "The Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) pricing isn't expensive, but it's not cheap, so it's in the middle. I'd rate the pricing as three out of five."
  • More Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "It specifies how much data you use and how much storage you require, among other things."
  • "The price of Oracle Integration Cloud Service is good. It is reasonable and is priced well for the market segment. The model they use is on a per-package unit and we have a two-year subscription."
  • "The solution is less expensive than other products."
  • "The price is fair."
  • "The price of Oracle Integration Cloud Service is reasonable to start with, but when you scale it becomes expensive."
  • "The solution is cost-effective."
  • "Its pricing is relatively lower than other vendors."
  • "The price is cheaper than all other cloud integration providers."
  • More Oracle Integration Cloud Service Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "This solution has provided an inexpensive tool, and it is easy to find experienced developers."
  • "My advice is to look at what your configuration will be because most companies have their own deals with Microsoft."
  • "This solution is included with the MSSQL server package."
  • "It would be beneficial if the solution had a less costly cloud offering."
  • "Based on my experience and understanding, Talend comes out to be a little bit expensive as compared to SSIS. The average cost of having Talend with Talend Management Console is around 72K per region, which is much higher than SSIS. SSIS works very well with Microsoft technologies, and if you have Microsoft technologies, it is not really expensive to have SSIS. If you have SQL Server, SSIS is free."
  • "We have an enterprise license for this solution."
  • "It comes bundled with other solutions, which makes it difficult to get the price on the specific product."
  • "All of my clients have this product included as part of their Microsoft license."

Technology has made it easier for businesses to organize and manipulate data to get a clearer picture of what’s going on with their business. Notably, ETL tools have made managing huge amounts of data significantly easier and faster, boosting many organizations’ business intelligence operations There are many third-party vendors offering ETL solutions, but two of the most popular are PowerCenter Informatica and Microsoft SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services). Each technology has its advantages but there are also similarities on how they carry out the extract-transform-load processes and only differ in terminologies. If you’re in the process of choosing ETL tools and PowerCenter Informatica and Microsoft SSIS made it to your shortlist, here is a short comparative discussion detailing the differences between the two, as well as their benefits. Package Configuration Most enterprise data integration projects would require the capacity to develop a solution in one platform and test and deploy it in a separate environment without having to manually change the established workflow. In order to achieve this seamless movement between two environments, your ETL technology should allow the dynamic update of the project’s properties using the content or a parameter file or configuration. Both Informatica and SSIS support this functionality using different methodologies. In Informatica, every session can have more than one source and one or more destination connections. Reviews from Real Users

Below are some reviews and helpful feedback written by PeerSpot users currently using the Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) solution.

Brian D., Business Process and Strategy Specialist Advisor at NTTData, says, “The Knowledge Module (KM) is my favorite feature of ODI. This is where I learned how to use variables to make jobs dynamic. I took that knowledge and created a KM that would go into iTunes and pull the sales of eBooks. Making something that is reusable, like a KM, is important to not only reduce build time but also maintenance in the future.”

Ashok S., Applications Support Manager at a marketing services firm, mentions, "The most valuable features of ODI are the ease of development, you can have a template, and you can onboard transfer very quickly. There's a lot of knowledge modules available that we can use. If you want to connect, for example, a Sibyl, SQL, Oracle, or different products, we don't have to develop them from scratch. They are available, but if it's not, we can go into the marketplace and see if there's a connector there. Having the connector available reduces the amount of hard work needed. We only have to put the inputs and outputs. In some of the products, we use there is already integration available for ODI, which is helpful."

Oracle Integration Cloud Service is a solution that stands out when compared to many of its competitors. Some of its major advantages are that it has good adapters, is user friendly, and produces a solid ROI.

Rishabh S., Business and Technology Delivery Associate Manager at Accenture, says, “It has good performance, easy integration, is user-friendly, and also has helpful technical support. The dashboard provided by Oracle Integration Cloud for monitoring and error handling is very intuitive. You do not need a third-party dashboard or logging framework when you initiate the integration. There are a lot of adapters, which is what I like the most.”
