Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The solution is stable and reliable.""It helps us fetch specific data sets per users' requirements.""The solution is scalable.""Unlike relational, where you're linking together multiple tables, with Essbase, you basically define what the dimensions are beforehand, and you define the hierarchy, and then load the data. This allows you to do a pretty sophisticated analysis so that you can drill into it and slice and dice the data.""I have found the most valuable aspect is the user-friendly environment and current features.""Essbase is extremely stable and low-maintenance.""The solution can handle a large volume of data.""It is highly efficient and easily scalable, particularly for handling large databases."

"Pentaho Business Analytics' best features include the ease of developing data flows and the wide range of options to connect to databases, including those on the cloud.""Easy to use components to create the job.""Pentaho is an analytics platform that can be used when an organization has a lot of big data storage systems already installed and needs to manage and analyze that data. It has a specific use case for unstructured data, such as documents, and needs to be able to search and analyze it.""I use the BI Server, CDE Dashboards, Saiku, and Kettle, because these tools are very good and highly experienced.""The initial setup is pretty straightforward.""The most valuable feature of Pentaho is the Tableau report.""We were able to install it without any assistance from tech support."

More Pentaho Business Analytics Pros →

"I really like the interactivity of the dashboards.""It's very easy to use and users don't need any IT support to access it as the information is right there.""It's the ease of use. It is also a self-service tool so it decreases the burden on having centralized IT-type teams or developers.""It is very good for data visualization. It has very powerful visualizations and is easy to use.""Tableau has many good features. It is user-friendly, has a simple-to-use interface, and has a customizable dashboard.""The action feature which Tableau has is very useful for us. If we click on one visualization, it will pass the value to another visualization. That interactivity within different visualizations is the most valuable feature of Tableau.""Data handling, visualizations, and aesthetics of it are the most valuable features.""One of the most valuable features is that the solution allows users to build interactive dashboards. This allows the end user to modify the criteria or the filtering if need be. As far as for my personal use as a QA Engineer, I really value how extensive their API document support has been."

Cons
"I would like to see an integration with application performance management and a version control management tool.""Essbase has a programming language, and it has a couple of functions to do forecasting, however, their feature set for that is not that good.""The ability to drive external reporting out for development could be improved.""There is room for improvement in terms of cost-effectiveness.""It's an expensive product to use.""They should improve the solution's performance.""The initial setup is pretty complex.""The initial setup could be simplified."

More Oracle Essbase Cons →

"The repository should be improved.""Logging capability is needed.""Pentaho Business Analytics' user interface is outdated.""Deployment is not simple. It is not simple because we are dealing with a lot of data; we are dealing with a lot of storage. So, it's not a simple process.""Pentaho, at the general level, should greatly improve the easy construction of its dashboards and easy integration of information from different sources without technical user intervention.""We did not achieve the ROI. The work delivered to users had lesser value than the subscription cost.""Version control would be a good addition.""Another concern is that Pentaho is not customizable or interactive."

More Pentaho Business Analytics Cons →

"In the next release, there should be more information describing each chart because users have a difficult time telling them apart. They should also include the animations/videos, similar to Power BI.""Lacks machine learning algorithms that you can implement using R, SPSS Modeler, and Python.""With performance tuning, it generates a pretty complex query when it is not required.""The use of this service in the desktop version is annoying due to the constant updates which lead to reinstalling the application. If they could give support with updates on the same downloaded version, it would be great.""Small multiples (a.k.a. Trellis charts) are possible only through very hacky means. Update: Still remains a challenge.""People are migrating to Microsoft BI due to the speed, which is quite slow to load, and the lack of visualization options.""We did have issues with Tableau 10.1 server with the brokers failing on heavy load but since moving to 10.2, then to 10.3, this issue seems to have been resolved and the environment is now quite stable.""From the developer perspective, the data connection handling the target data set is what most needs to be improved."
