We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Essbase is extremely stable and low-maintenance.""The solution is stable and reliable.""Unlike relational, where you're linking together multiple tables, with Essbase, you basically define what the dimensions are beforehand, and you define the hierarchy, and then load the data. This allows you to do a pretty sophisticated analysis so that you can drill into it and slice and dice the data.""I have found the most valuable aspect is the user-friendly environment and current features.""It is highly efficient and easily scalable, particularly for handling large databases.""The solution is scalable.""It helps us fetch specific data sets per users' requirements.""The solution can handle a large volume of data."

"I have found Tableau easy to use and the features are superb.""All features are valuable. It is very user-friendly, and it is mostly drag-and-drop. If we have the dataset available, then we can develop any dashboard very quickly.""The product offers an intuitive user interface, detailed screens and widgets, and the absence of data limitations""It is very easy to create dashboards, charts, and graphs.""The most valuable feature is the user experience.""The platform's most important feature is predictive analysis.""The solution has great features which nobody can beat, you can do a lot of customizations, such as use different dimensions and colorize them. Additionally, you can use the numeric values for the customization, which is an exceptional feature.""There are already connectors to almost every single major database and service that you can possibly think of."

More Tableau Pros →

"The front end of this solution including the graph generation using SQL has been most useful.""We use the solution for financial and sales analytics. It brings data from our IT incident management tool. Hence, we have three business use cases for IT support, sales and financials.""It's a very strong analytics tool.""It provides insights into leads, information about the team and about various sales activities. The graphical representations in the form of charts is excellent.""Ask Zia is a great feature that I use to quickly decide what improvements I need to make in order to present the data that I want to show.""Zoho Analytics is the best software for giving reports to customers and we can create any report that is required.""The solution’s dashboard is very good.""The most valuable feature of Zoho Analytics is its connectivity with ERP systems and the functionality to set up different fields for leads."

More Zoho Analytics Pros →

Cons
"Essbase has a programming language, and it has a couple of functions to do forecasting, however, their feature set for that is not that good.""The initial setup is pretty complex.""The initial setup could be simplified.""The ability to drive external reporting out for development could be improved.""It's an expensive product to use.""I would like to see an integration with application performance management and a version control management tool.""There is room for improvement in terms of cost-effectiveness.""They should improve the solution's performance."

More Oracle Essbase Cons →

"The Hyper Extract functionality is not as strong as that provided by Microsoft SQL.""Its price is a concern. It is more expensive than Power BI. The other thing that I never liked about Tableau is its ability to handle large sets of data. To present the data in the dashboards, we have to stage it up exactly like it is going to come into the dashboard. We use another tool called Alteryx that does that for us. So, we manipulate the data, get it staged, and then push it into Tableau. Tableau is terrible at handling large data sets, and we knew right away that we couldn't use Tableau to do data manipulation.""When there are millions of records, scaling up is quite difficult.""Some of our clients are looking for better UI when using Tableau as they often work with this solution directly.""It needs more ETL capabilities, to be able to address the end-to-end BI need.""The architecture should be improved to better handle the data.""There should be stronger data modules for the platform.""Include forecasting on table calculation fields."

More Tableau Cons →

"A higher degree of artificial intelligence could be included in this solution. The data and overall insights could be improved.""I like the solution's Query Table feature which helps me write SQL queries. We can get data from different tables and then use it to create reports.""The navigation on the interface is not intuitive.""There should be more types of graphics available for use in the reports.""There is a limitation that we cannot create more than 300 columns in a worksheet on Zoho Analytics.""This solution does not support manufacturing facilities.""In terms of improvement, they have a limited number of graphs available in their store. They should come up with more graph style forms. They should have more charts and at the same time, you can't create panels like with Microsoft BA.""The solution's tasks and project management tools are weaker than those of its competitors."

  • More Oracle Essbase Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "For big business, Tableau could be expensive as having a lot of Tableau server users (entering with a browser to reports) could be a bit expensive."
  • "Best advice on pricing is to anticipate the desire for more licenses once the results of this product are acknowledged in other parts of your company."
  • "Paying for users you never setup or buying expensive desktop licenses for users who can solve their users with web editing on the server are the two biggest expenses."
  • "Buy 50 at a time. Project your use base every three months, and project your requirements forward."
  • "Tableau can be costly (but this can be indefinable, such as user experience vs. cheaper etc.)"
  • "I wish there was more of a subscription model with the pricing when it comes to Tableau, so you can get all the latest version upgrades/features if you pay monthly/annually."
  • "The cost is high."
  • "Deployment of dashboards to viewers and unit supervisors can be prohibitively expensive."

  • "I would recommend looking at your usage and whether the Zoho One license model would work for your organisation. It is very cost effective if you use other Zoho tools."
  • "An exact ROI is hard to calculate. However, we have definitely made sales that would have been much harder, or unlikely, as a result of the speed with which we were able to prepare comprehensive analysis."
  • "I don't feel that price is an issue for this product."
  • "It is very reasonable, and it gives me a good return on investment. Compared to other tools, it is the best choice in terms of pricing."
  • "This solution is reasonable as far as pricing is concerned."

After a recent presentation, several attendees asked me about the applications of Visual Insights and Tableau. Many companies are investing in both tools and are trying to figure out the right tool for specific applications Tableau has found its sweet-spot as an agile discovery tool that analysts use to create and share insights. It is also the tool of choice for rapid prototyping of dashboards. Tableau is very flexible with its data import. Tableau's data blending capability is very intuitive. This capability is useful when you have data spread across several different sources that has not gone through ETL processes. This is a problem analysts deal with routinely. They are unable to wait for the data warehouse team to develop ETL processes to provide the physical models they need to build an analysis. The Tableau interface is Excel-like and has a low barrier to entry for analysts that are used to working in Excel. Building a dashboard by mashing up visualizations in a Tableau worksheet is extremely simple. Users are able to build good presentation-quality dashboards in a very short amount time. Tableau's annotations capabilities and its time and geographical intelligence are key differentiators. Tableau has overcome limitations in data sharing with the introduction of a Data Server in Tableau 7.0. The Data server allows Data sources and extracts to be shared securely and opens up interesting new possibilities. If your application can take advantage of the above… Read more →
