Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"I have found the most valuable aspect is the user-friendly environment and current features.""The solution is stable and reliable.""Essbase is extremely stable and low-maintenance.""The solution can handle a large volume of data.""It helps us fetch specific data sets per users' requirements.""The solution is scalable.""It is highly efficient and easily scalable, particularly for handling large databases.""Unlike relational, where you're linking together multiple tables, with Essbase, you basically define what the dimensions are beforehand, and you define the hierarchy, and then load the data. This allows you to do a pretty sophisticated analysis so that you can drill into it and slice and dice the data."

"The most valuable feature of Pyramid Analytics, outshining even top-tier platforms like Power BI, is its robust support for DAX queries.""I think the most valuable Pyramid Analytics feature is the solution's ability to drill down and dice in the loop. I think it is better than InExcel or Power BI.""It seems quite performant in analyzing multi-dimensional information sets and presenting them.""Pyramid has a wide level of uses, as it's a complete ETL process and has a good level of connecting to a lot of data sources.""It offers a wide range of analytics options including statistics and visualizations, as well as prediction capabilities, allowing users to make forecasts based on the latest data.""It proved to be a very powerful and useful tool due to its breakdown capabilities, easy reporting features, flexibility in building custom calculations, and the ability to integrate them into reports.""The features I find most valuable are 'Discover,' 'Formulate,' and 'Model.' I use them regularly to build logic and create reports for my job.""The on-premise version has quite good scalability."

More Pyramid Analytics Pros →

"The number one thing was just the ease of getting something up quickly. The other thing that was good about it was that it was fairly fast for decent-sized data sets in terms of performance and run time.""It is definitely easy to use. It is intuitive, and more or less, everything can be done from the front end. As such, there is no concept of metadata. You can just take data from a database and start building your own stuff, such as OLAP data warehouse. You don't need extensive metadata modeling like Oracle BI.""It is easy to adapt visualizers to have interactive conversations among decision-makers.""It's easy to use.""The initial setup is quick and easy and you don't need special outside assistance to set everything up.""The data blending capabilities is a huge factor for our team.""The platform's most important feature is predictive analysis.""All features are valuable. It is very user-friendly, and it is mostly drag-and-drop. If we have the dataset available, then we can develop any dashboard very quickly."

Cons
"I would like to see an integration with application performance management and a version control management tool.""The initial setup is pretty complex.""It's an expensive product to use.""The initial setup could be simplified.""The ability to drive external reporting out for development could be improved.""Essbase has a programming language, and it has a couple of functions to do forecasting, however, their feature set for that is not that good.""They should improve the solution's performance.""There is room for improvement in terms of cost-effectiveness."

More Oracle Essbase Cons →

"I think the graphic number of charts and components could be higher, at least comparable to Brain Power BI.""There is room for improvement in terms of the user interface, particularly when it comes to modifying connections between filters and visual components in a dashboard.""I find that this is quite a heavy, time-consuming tool for developers.""There is room for improvement in terms of documentation and examples, especially for newcomers like me who are learning both business intelligence and Pyramid.""It would be desirable to have the possibility to generate a data dictionary, detailing the original physical tables, renamed fields, and derived fields.""Pyramid Analytics could improve by speeding up data refresh, especially for large datasets.""The general amount of negative comments that I am hearing from my team makes me very wary.""Even though the solution has a functionality for every step, it's not so well- defined. That needs to be improved."

More Pyramid Analytics Cons →

"The pricing is high. I'm using a student license, however, I know that even this license is very expensive. I've tried to have this product in our organization, however, it's quite expensive. We don't have the internal budget.""The customization requires a lot of effort and should be simplified. The performance could be better.""I think Tableau could be improved with cheaper or more flexible licensing, though this is a generic improvement and applies for any product. It would be better if they had more flexible payment and licensing plans so that they could suit small- and mid-sized organizations.""In the next release, there should be more information describing each chart because users have a difficult time telling them apart. They should also include the animations/videos, similar to Power BI.""Tableau's data modeling, mining, and AI library features need improvement.""With performance tuning, it generates a pretty complex query when it is not required.""Licensing and pricing options could be made better so that more users would be able to use it.""The solution could improve the scalability, it is difficult to make changes."

After a recent presentation, several attendees asked me about the applications of Visual Insights and Tableau. Many companies are investing in both tools and are trying to figure out the right tool for specific applications Tableau has found its sweet-spot as an agile discovery tool that analysts use to create and share insights. It is also the tool of choice for rapid prototyping of dashboards. Tableau is very flexible with its data import. Tableau's data blending capability is very intuitive. This capability is useful when you have data spread across several different sources that has not gone through ETL processes. This is a problem analysts deal with routinely. They are unable to wait for the data warehouse team to develop ETL processes to provide the physical models they need to build an analysis. The Tableau interface is Excel-like and has a low barrier to entry for analysts that are used to working in Excel. Building a dashboard by mashing up visualizations in a Tableau worksheet is extremely simple. Users are able to build good presentation-quality dashboards in a very short amount time. Tableau's annotations capabilities and its time and geographical intelligence are key differentiators. Tableau has overcome limitations in data sharing with the introduction of a Data Server in Tableau 7.0. The Data server allows Data sources and extracts to be shared securely and opens up interesting new possibilities. If your application can take advantage of the above… Read more →
