We performed a comparison between Oracle VM, Proxmox VE, and VMware vSphere based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out what your peers are saying about Proxmox, VMware, Microsoft and others in Server Virtualization Software."The stability of the product is fine."
"It is a scalable solution."
"Oracle is probably the best database technology out there. I've never found anything as complete in terms of feature and functionality and sophistication."
"Because of the virtualization for Linux, I use just Linux basically in all VMs, a few with Windows."
"Its technical support is quite good."
"Ability to patch with no downtime."
"Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten."
"The product's initial setup phase was simple."
"It's been a stable solution."
"The whole solution is good. It has good tools that help me in managing the servers. It is also stable."
"We are happy with Proxmox VE. We use it as part of a cluster."
"It is easy to deploy."
"The backup service, which was released recently, and that we are already using, is wonderful."
"Saves a lot of time compared to imaging physical desktops."
"In addition to the virtualization, the firewall and the routing functions that it provides are valuable."
"Proxmox is free, very stable, and doesn't require more resources for memory RAM. It's fine for a small data center."
"Its most valuable features are reliability, for sure, and quickness in getting the job done. I can spin off 100 or 200 machines in the matter of half an hour."
"We have the possibility to move workloads to different locations."
"With the current compliance options that I have to go through, it's very nice to have a lot of the encryption built in. It checks a lot of boxes for the federal level so I don't have to either bolt something on or have something on top of it. Having it native and integrated into the system makes things much easier."
"The virtualization this solution offer is very complete for the infrastructure."
"It stands out as a comprehensive and advantageous solution, providing a full package that effectively caters to our needs for managing our private cloud."
"It is a very stable solution. Integration with other environments was simple to achieve."
"I like the capability of vMotion, DRS, high availability, and resource distribution."
"It has allowed us to be more resilient to infrastructure and hardware failure, reduced hardware costs, and decreased recovery time from failures."
"If there are issues with the storage, then all the machines go down, even if I have a backup solution in place."
"Oracle VM is not very stable. When you encounter any issue, it's unclear what is happening."
"I think more Command-Line options for the product, for deployments."
"Productivity in Oracle VM could still be improved, and an additional feature to make the product better is compatibility with Kubernetes and other modern technologies."
"The tool's price and stability could be better."
"This solution is not as stable as other solutions in the market. But, Oracle has made an effort to improve these issues with recent updates."
"Deployment should be simplified."
"I've found that using Oracle VM is like stepping back in time. It's not kept up with technology. The only reason anyone uses it is that they're afraid of Oracle's licensing. Oracle has a tremendously bad licensing approach."
"Currently, there are several features inaccessible through the API, necessitating the use of either the WebUI or the command line interface."
"Proxmox VE can improve by importing OVF or OVA files directly from OVA. I need to convert all the images to raw images before importing them to Proxmox VE. If there is a solution that I can import directly from VMDK, it would be better."
"The compatibility with non-English operating systems needs to be improved."
"Separate physical network for Corosync/Heartbeat should be emphasized in the Quick Start or Getting Started documentation."
"The Windows drivers could be easier (unlike manually installing Ballon, QEMU and optionally SPICE, VIRTio, etc.)"
"Its user interface can be improved. In the version that I am using, not all functions can be performed by using the UI. There can be some improvement on that. I'm assuming that it has already been improved in the latest version."
"If this solution could import directly from OVS format then it would make migration much easier."
"The only issue I have with Proxmox VE is updating it. You have to manually update it or you have to have a way to update it automatically."
"It would be great if the free version included a management tool that was a scaled-down vCenter Manager."
"I would like to start to using NSX in the next release."
"As we continue to push mission-critical workloads into vSphere, and those workloads are not readily protected at the application layer for availability, continuing to increase the size limitations on FT-protected VMs would be a great advance."
"An improvement could be in terms of keeping up with the upgrades. The upgrades could be set in an automated way so that the newer features don't require you to manually update, or you get an option to update automatically. This would be a useful enhancement."
"I'm using vSphere at a high level. Sometimes, I find it challenging to integrate different networks, but I think it's just my lack of knowledge."
"I would like to see the configuration simplified."
"It is expensive. They can improve the licensing cost for Cloud Director. They can also improve the integration with other applications and the metering feature, which is currently not flexible."
"We've been using vSphere on Windows 7, and it had less fluff associated with ThinApp. Currently, with Windows 10 version that we have, it adds a lot of bulk to ThinApp. We have offices spanning across Canada from the east coast to the west coast. A ThinApp that is roughly around 400 MB in size would take minutes to open up. With Windows 7, the same ThinApp used to be close to 75 to 80 MB in size. So, I'm really not happy with the extra fluff that is bundled in Windows 10. It really messes things up for us at times."
