Pros
"It offers enough support so that you don't need to have the need to get another device."

"With Turbonomic, we were able to reduce our ESX cluster size and save money on our maintenance and license renewals. It saved us around $75,000 per year but it's a one-time reduction in VMware licensing. We don't renew the support. The ongoing savings is probably $50,000 to $75,000 a year, but there was a one-time of $200,000 plus.""The system automatically sizes and moves resources based on the needs of the applications.""The automation and orchestration components are definitely the best part, as you can tell it what it can do and when, and just let it be.""The tool provides the ability to look at the consumption utilization over a period of time and determine if we need to change that resource allocation based on the actual workload consumption, as opposed to how IT has configured it. Therefore, we have come to realize that a lot of our workloads are overprovisioned, and we are spending more money in the public cloud than we need to.""The biggest value I'm getting out of VMTurbo right now is the complete hands-off management of equalizing the usage in my data center.""We have a system where our developers automate machine builds, and that is constantly running out of resources. Turbonomic helps us with that, so I don't have to keep buying hardware. The developers always say, "They don't have enough. They don't have enough. They don't have enough," when they just configured it improperly. Therefore, Turbonomic helps us identify configuration issues on their side so it doesn't cost me money on the other end to buy resources that I don't really need.""The feature for optimizing VMs is the most valuable because a number of the agencies have workloads or VMs that are not really being used. Turbonomic enables us to say, 'If you combine these, or if you decide to go with a reserve instance, you will save this much.'""I only deal with the infrastructure side, so I really couldn't speak to more than load balancing as the most valuable feature for me. It provides specific actions that prevent resource starvation. It always keeps things in perfect balance."

"The tool's most valuable feature is notifications. It is also flexible in defining metrics where you can specify any metric type. Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control helps monitor the resources you manage so that you do not overpay.""The solution is stable. It is great in terms of Oracle products, especially for Oracle databases.""The most valuable feature of Oracle EMCC is its flexibility to manage various industries, projects, and tasks.""Advisors provide quick access to Insight and best practice information for performance tuning and configuration.""From a performance perspective, the management capabilities of the product are very valuable to its customers.""I use the solution for troubleshooting.""Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control gives us diverse monitoring capability that can be extremely powerful.""It is a highly stable solution. Stability-wise, I rate the solution a nine out of ten."

Cons
"The solution is just too expensive, so maybe the pricing could be better."

More Cisco Piston Enterprise OS Cons →

"It would be nice for them to have a way to do something with physical machines, but I know that is not their strength Thankfully, the majority of our environment is virtual, but it would be nice to see this type of technology across some other platforms. It would be nice to have capacity planning across physical machines.""It would be good for Turbonomic, on their side, to integrate with other companies like AppDynamics or SolarWinds or other monitoring softwares. I feel that the actual monitoring of applications, mixed in with their abilities, would help. That would be the case wherever Turbonomic lacks the ability to monitor an application or in cases where applications are so customized that it's not going to be able to handle them. There is monitoring that you can do with scripting that you may not be able to do with Turbonomic.""Before IBM bought it, the support was fantastic. After IBM bought it, the support became very disappointing.""The issue for us with the automation is we are considering starting to do the hot adds, but there are some problems with Windows Server 2019 and hot adds. It is a little buggy. So, if we turn that on with a cluster that has a lot of Windows 2019 Servers, then we would see a blue screen along with a lot of applications as well. Depending on what you are adding, cores or memory, it doesn't necessarily even take advantage of that at that moment. A reboot may be required, and we can't do that until later. So, that decreases the benefit of the real-time. For us, there is a lot of risk with real-time.""We don't use Turbonomic for FinOps and part of the reason is its cost reporting. The reporting could be much more robust and, if that were the case, I could pitch it for FinOps.""There is room for improvement [with] upgrades. We have deployed the newer version, version 8 of Turbonomic. The problem is that there is no way to upgrade between major Turbonomic versions. You can upgrade minor versions without a problem, but when you go from version 6 to version 7, or version 7 to version 8, you basically have to deploy it new and let it start gathering data again. That is a problem because all of the data, all of the savings calculations that had been done on the old version, are gone. There's no way to keep track of your lifetime savings across versions.""Remove the need for special in-house knowledge and development.""Turbonomic doesn't do storage placement how I would prefer. We use multiple shared storage volumes on VMware, so I don't have one big disk. I have lots of disks that I can place VMs on, and that consumes IOPS from the disk subsystem. We were getting recommendations to provision a new volume."

More IBM Turbonomic Cons →

"There is a lack from the point of view of monitoring on the system. The performance of the system and its resources are things that I think can be improved. There needs to be real-time monitoring available on the solution.""Adding new databases is difficult in Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control.""You cannot use Enterprise Manager as replacement for a WebLogic console.""Oracle Data Guard monitoring: There are no alerts for redo log transport failure.""Another point that can be improved is the agent instability in the monitored hosts, because sometimes an agent has to be resynchronized to recapture the information.""One area where Oracle EMCC could improve is file import flexibility.""Because this solution provides insight into all of the areas within the IT stack, it would benefit from enhancements in security.""The product lacks in the area of database, making it an area where improvements are required."

Information Not Available
  • "We felt the pricing was very fair for the product. It is in no way prohibitive for larger deployments, unlike other similar product on the market."
  • "Contact the Turbonomic sales team, explain your needs and what you're looking to monitor. They will get a pre-sales SE on the phone and together work up a very accurate quote."
  • "What I can advise is to trial the product, taking advantage of the Turbonomic pre-sales implemention support and kickstart training."
  • "Licensing is per socket, so load up on the cores rather than a lot of lower core CPUs."
  • "You should understand the cost of your physical servers and how much time and money you are spending year over year on expanding your virtual farm."
  • "Price is a big one. VMTurbo was very competitively priced."
  • "If you're a super-small business, it may be a little bit pricey for you... But in large, enterprise companies where money is, maybe, less of an issue, Turbonomic is not that expensive. I can't imagine why any big company would not buy it, for what it does."
  • "It was an annual buy-in. You basically purchase it based on your host type stuff. The buy-in was about 20K, and the annual maintenance is about $3,000 a year."

  • "Our customer uses Oracle Universal Credits to pay for their license on an annual basis. The price is definitely affordable."
