We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Recent Program Management lifecycle, Program Management aggregation views due to interactive UI (selection of risks, issues, and changes in Program Overview) and “flash look & feel" of this functional chunk, which is different in comparison to other parts of HPE PPM.""Scenario comparison is the feature most valuable to us and the reason why we decided to choose HPE PPM over other portfolio management products.""There are so many different pieces of functionality, and we use almost every single piece from deployment to demand, project, resource, and time management.""Micro Focus PPM is flexible and easy to use. It's simple to customize and configure workflows.""Micro Focus Project and Portfolio Management (PPM) has a very strong workflow engine.""Has a powerful workflow engine that allows creation of workflow complexities and processes.""It is very important that the platform gives us a single place where we can measure progress toward goals, as we have weekly meetings with the CTO. We present these consolidated overviews and dashboards to him so that he has an overview of all the projects and can see the status of all the problems that we have and we are working on.""It's a very detailed tool. As far as an enterprise is concerned, it gives you the flexibility to manage everything: portfolios, projects, finances, proposals, resources, and time... It takes care of even the minor details that need to be captured. The project management functionality is configured really well within the tool. That stands out."

"Our reporting is much better. There is much more visibility on projects, schedules, tasks, and in our milestones. Now, we have a consistent way of reporting out to the committees and getting all of our schedules and milestones.""Enterprise One provides end-to-end work management for the full spectrum of types of work in one tool.""We're still in an early stage. Things will change as we use it more. I did program reports that are important and that will provide us with value.""The portfolio and technology management are well built.""The most valuable feature for me is the ease and customizability of reporting.""The most valuable feature of this solution is the completeness of the standard, underlying metamodel.""The data is the most valuable because the reporting that we provide out of Planview is priceless when compared to any other tool. The reporting has a variety of reports. It has the capabilities of Power BI. It gives us all these dashboards that we can show to our executive leadership, and they have been very well-received.""It gives us the vast ability to churn out-of-the-box reports and have an overview about approach rates and resource utilization."

"The initial setup is easy.""I appreciate the ease of creating boards and the flexibility it offers.""It has a very modern-looking interface.""Another feature that impressed me is the clear Kanban board, as it provides a clear view of to-to tasks, assuring the team not to forget anything.""The solution is great for project management.""It offers a very solid service alongside its innovative features and capabilities.""We found that the solution was available on multiple devices, has a great user experience, is simple to use, and it is available on multiple channels.""Projects do not take as long and meetings take less time, since you know the status of developments or tests."

Cons
"Currently, HPE PPM does not allow “Project” approval, but only simple “Demand Request” approval (mobility).""The solution can sometimes be a little inflexible and a bit caustic.""I was not involved in the initial setup. I know that the project involved a lot of consulting that took a long time.""User interface continues to be poor. The product does not have a similar view in the different modules, e.g., staffing vs financial management, it looks like you are working with a different product and it is not easy to use or intuitive.""There are some limitations when it comes to attaching receipts. For example, if we are going to buy some non-labor-related assets such as hardware, we are not able to attach the receipts in the Financial Management module in version 9.41.""Portfolio scenarios: This is a very powerful feature. However, it’s limited to analyses.""Sometimes features in PPM don't work as expected, or our users request a new feature. Typically, our partner vendor can deploy those changes. But there have been a few instances when we had to raise it with Micro Focus because it's beyond the ability of our partner vendor. When we raise the issue with Micro Focus, it sometimes takes time because it needs support from other customers using PPM, not just our bank. It goes through a voting system. Other customers need to vote for the feature. The features that get the most votes will possibly be added.""Reporting; need to be able to provide fancy reporting out of PPM, way it is done in OBIEE etc."

More OpenText Project and portfolio Management Cons →

"We had issues with the data rephrasing.""Their off-shore support is something new that they're laying out and the team just needed some development in terms of skill and experience.""The number one thing that needs improvement is the UI. It should be easy for a casual project manager. It should provide customizable screens that can be a choice for project managers to choose as a professional level, medium level, and a very easy level.""The lack of templates harden the initial learning curve.""The biggest room for improvement are the scripted dialogues. The scripted dialogues are a logic that you set up to force a certain workflow or process to happen. It's very old in respect that there are no clauses that you can apply to that logic. That definitely can use a lot of room for improvement.""I would suggest for the request module that they open up the fields and columns so it's like we are doing our work in the work module. You can't do that with today. We also have to make sure that the fields can go both ways with the request and work modules. Including fields in the column sets would be helpful, because today they only use attributes.""When it comes to reporting there are some challenges with integration.""When I started working with Planview, I didn't know anything about project or resource management. I had to learn everything: the admin side, then the user side of it. Probably, in the beginning, I would implement in the blueprint or workshops more demos. A live demo of how the system works because we would like a little deeper dive in how the application works for us to understand what we need to provide, what we are doing, what we will be doing. Because in the beginning, it was so overwhelming, and we didn't know anything about the tool."

"Trello could add an analytic tool that allows me to see the performance of each team member, answering questions like whether they meet the deadline or miss the deadline.""The documentation is not readily accessible. It is difficult to connect with technical support. Additionally, their knowledge base seems limited.""In terms of improvements, adding more artificial intelligence and making it more user-friendly in terms of design could be beneficial.""Unstructured data cannot be directly used; it needs to be structured first.""It would be great if there was a tour for new users to explain how this solution works. Using this solution for the first time can feel complicated.""The product is not easy to use.""Although it has many useful features, the one thing I don't like about Trello is that it constantly sends out unimportant notifications.""The hardware configuration is limited."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Support and license management are two hurdles for us. Every time we purchase new licenses, it has taken us half a year to implement those."
  • "It is SaaS without a base fee."
  • "HPE PPM SaaS model is comprehensive, however, the base fee component has customer resistance to its recurring setup,"
  • "Now, we also received an increase in the support license prices, without any advanced notice. At this point, switching to unify all our licensing under HPE and customer support has been poor."
  • "We have an annual license, and it is fairly priced in comparison to that of other solutions."
  • "A large organization will find Micro Focus PPM affordable, but it may be a bit costly for a small or medium-sized company. The license is based on the number of users."
  • More OpenText Project and portfolio Management Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "The licensing part is a bit costly in comparison with the other available PPM tools."
  • "We are on the Flex licenses."
  • "We have unlimited licenses for all of our functionalities. Since we went global, we went with that model."
  • "The cost of other pieces and integrating them in needs improvement."
  • "We have portfolio managers, resource managers, project managers, and time reporting licenses. These are the licenses that we have."
  • "I don't think we have necessarily purchased everything that I would have liked to have seen."
  • "We have several hundred licenses. It costs us several hundred thousand dollars a year."
  • "We overbought our licenses. We looked at our needs three to four years down the road and tried based our contract on that. However, we were over aggressive. We use about a third of the licenses that we have. We're looking to adjust the makeup so we can start utilizing the amount of money that we are spending. Right now, we're overspending, and my organization is not seeing the value in Planview because we are paying so much for licenses that we're not using."

  • "Maybe it would be better if they offered some extra tiers, so you don't have to go all the way up to the pro level."
  • "I use the free version of Trello, which is sufficient for my day to day use."
  • "I am tinkering with the free version."
  • "The free version of Trello covers all of the bases and all of our needs, so there's no cost involved for us. This is surprising for such a quality platform with no limitations on the key functionalities, though it also has a paid version."
  • "Its pricing is good. It is about $6 per license for what we use, but then there are other plans as well, such as $12 a month. I would rate it a nine out of ten in terms of pricing."
  • "The pricing for this solution is reasonable."
  • "We are currently using the open-source option."
  • "Paying for the solution's license is worth it only if our enterprise or organization can use Trello, integrated with some other solution, and we can have good reports."
