We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Resource management: The resource management module is very complete and covers most of the time all needs of customers.""There are so many different pieces of functionality, and we use almost every single piece from deployment to demand, project, resource, and time management.""Recent Program Management lifecycle, Program Management aggregation views due to interactive UI (selection of risks, issues, and changes in Program Overview) and “flash look & feel" of this functional chunk, which is different in comparison to other parts of HPE PPM.""It's a very detailed tool. As far as an enterprise is concerned, it gives you the flexibility to manage everything: portfolios, projects, finances, proposals, resources, and time... It takes care of even the minor details that need to be captured. The project management functionality is configured really well within the tool. That stands out.""Overall, they have a very strong workflow management capability. That's a very strong feature because then you can model any process easily. Whether it is a demand management process, a pipeline management process, or your project delivery methodology, it is much easier because of their workflow management capability.""I like the automated calculations, especially on the resource side. When project managers enter their resource requirements into their staffing profiles, they are automatically translated into labor forecast calculations. PPM automates a significant portion of the forecast calculations. Timesheets are also built-in. We automatically process time sheets and bill them accordingly.""I like the ease of customization from an admin perspective. I'm really excited about some of the things that are coming in version 10.0.3 as far as what admins are able to do.""Has a powerful workflow engine that allows creation of workflow complexities and processes."

"Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management is a well-engineered product from an IT perspective.""The most valuable feature of Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management is accuracy.""The solution's tech support is good.""I like Primavera's planning capabilities.""The ability to streamline the process of obtaining signatures from our contractors is valuable."

More Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management Pros →

"Just about everything about the solution is valuable. I can't pinpoint one specific thing. The tool has helped us mature as an agency, has taught us to collect better data and the benefits of having good data.""Daptiv is a project management tool, so it's pretty straightforward. The ability to manage projects and programs has been beneficial for us.""PPM Pro has enabled us to set up and run a project priority committee (PPC) within the organization. Without the PPM Pro tool, we wouldn't be able to have the project information, updates, and project listings in the pipeline to be able to run the meeting efficiently, give information prior to the meeting, and also run the meeting when we meet on either monthly or on a bi-monthly basis.""The reporting and dashboards are the most valuable features. For most of what we're using it for almost all of it is pretty valuable to us.""The timesheet & staffing management function gives us clarity in terms of how capacity planning has to happen and how much actual effort is going into the programs. The risk and project status information gets captured in the project gives more clarity for stakeholders to understand how the programs are running. We have only explored a portion of the application features so far.""It has a nice dashboard view, so you can analyze the progress on a project from a single place. It provides a nice graphical representation of all the project management with visualizations of Gantt chart and customized reports. You can easily track all your progress on project tasks and flag any issues.""I've worked at many different companies, and the customer service and the support from Daptiv are unlike anything I've encountered before. They far excel any other company I've worked with. I always say to people that Daptiv is like a sub-department in your company. You don't realize they're a vendor. It feels like you're working with somebody who is part of your own company.""Time tracking, portfolio management reporting, and what-if analysis create visibility into project planning, resource capacity, and demand planning."

Cons
"Sometimes features in PPM don't work as expected, or our users request a new feature. Typically, our partner vendor can deploy those changes. But there have been a few instances when we had to raise it with Micro Focus because it's beyond the ability of our partner vendor. When we raise the issue with Micro Focus, it sometimes takes time because it needs support from other customers using PPM, not just our bank. It goes through a voting system. Other customers need to vote for the feature. The features that get the most votes will possibly be added.""We constantly put in requests for some of the things we need. One of those is being able to export just our standard request type to PDF.""They can make its UI better. Currently, the UI is a bit clunky.""Portfolio scenarios: This is a very powerful feature. However, it’s limited to analyses.""The solution can sometimes be a little inflexible and a bit caustic.""User interface continues to be poor. The product does not have a similar view in the different modules, e.g., staffing vs financial management, it looks like you are working with a different product and it is not easy to use or intuitive.""I would also like to see improvement in PPM's reporting and alerts. PPM has reporting capabilities, including HTML reports and portlets. But a majority of clients will build their own reporting platforms, or they will use external reporting platforms like Tableau and QlikView.""Reporting; need to be able to provide fancy reporting out of PPM, way it is done in OBIEE etc."

More OpenText Project and portfolio Management Cons →

"The scalability has room for improvement.""The reporting could improve project management. We need multiple source reports. If someone is new to the support it has a steep learning curve.""Primavera could be better integrated with other products, and it needs more cost management features.""They should work on integrating the solution with ERP.""The solution's user interface is an area with shortcomings that need improvement."

More Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management Cons →

"The agile functionality can be improved. The tool was definitely built around the waterfall PMBOK PRINCE2 methodology, and although there are great functions within the tool for agile, it is often compared to dedicated tools like LeanKit or Jira. At the moment, the only integration we would have is to Jira itself, not to another Planview product. I believe that's coming in 2022 at some point.""The integration with some of these other tools that we use, like the Azure DevOps needs improvement. I heard there are few things coming within Planview or PPM Pro itself, but I think it's still future dated. These integrations are key for us from an organizational perspective.""The biggest things are the status notes and internal notes. They have made some great improvements these past couple of weeks, but they are still lacking a bit. There are still a little kludgy. It just needs to be a bit more straightforward with notes, copying and pasting. They've made huge improvements, but it still could do some work. E.g., for some reason, the formatting is still looking a little bit weird on selecting different fonts.""The initial setup was a little complex. There is so much to customize. It'd be good to have some templates out-of-the-box.""Reporting and dashboards need improvement. They've got the new beta coming out now and I've been playing around with that in our sandbox environment.""This solution does not work well as a task management system because it is very difficult to expand beyond just the basic tasks, and this would be a worthwhile area for improvement.""Integrating with other tools should be easier and more straightforward.""The reporting has some areas for improvement. It is not always as simple as we would like to get the reports we want or the information that we want."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Support and license management are two hurdles for us. Every time we purchase new licenses, it has taken us half a year to implement those."
  • "It is SaaS without a base fee."
  • "HPE PPM SaaS model is comprehensive, however, the base fee component has customer resistance to its recurring setup,"
  • "Now, we also received an increase in the support license prices, without any advanced notice. At this point, switching to unify all our licensing under HPE and customer support has been poor."
  • "We have an annual license, and it is fairly priced in comparison to that of other solutions."
  • "A large organization will find Micro Focus PPM affordable, but it may be a bit costly for a small or medium-sized company. The license is based on the number of users."
  • More OpenText Project and portfolio Management Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "The solution is highly priced compared to one of its competitors."
  • "Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management is an expensive solution. There is an upfront cost to purchase the solution and then there are annual fees to use the solution."
  • "The solution itself is cost-effective."
  • "My company has made an annual payment towards the costs of the solution. Price-wise, the solution is okay."
  • More Oracle Primavera Portfolio Management Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "The cost was in line."
  • "$6 million has been the return on investment so far, and that was because of work intake. Now that we are scrutinizing the work intake and asking questions like, "Is there an alternative to your $10 million project?" We had one project come in for $10 million, scrutinize it through our gate review process, and wound up with the alternative, which was $3.8 million. So, a $6 million savings."
  • "We have their Flex plan."
  • "Because we have PPM Pro with Project place, we transitioned to the Flex model."
  • "A collaboration of all their tools truly gets the biggest bang for the buck."
  • "Bulk volume discounts are a little better. Right now we have to buy in lots of 20 at $200 a license. That's a little steep. For example, with Service Now, I pay $48 a seat for a license."
  • "Pricing was fair and I thought it was comparable to the other ones that we looked at. Other than ServiceNow, it was the most expensive, but we knew we were going to get a lot of value for that, so we went with it. We paid $40,000 for the implementation and for the workshops."
  • "The pricing for me is more about understanding your own needs in the company because it is one license for one person model. So, you have to really understand how many licenses you need and what may be the influx of your staff. The good thing about Daptiv is that we just need a quick telephone call to our customer success manager if we want to increase our licensing. It takes a day or two to do. So, we can upscale very quickly. We've never downscaled, but I'm guessing if we had to, we'd have to wait till the contract completes or renegotiate a different licensing cost. So, you definitely need to understand what different types of licenses provide from a functionality point of view, and then order 10% more than you need based on the influx of staff in the company. There are costs in addition to the standard licensing fees. We have the report functionality for which we pay separately for 10 hours per month."
