We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It helps improve your process through continual measurement.""One of the most notable things is how you can develop use cases with the customers, internal customers, but directly within. The software process model that BPM supports is really exciting in that aspect.""This product does the job in terms of executing the workflow.""IBM BPM and Automation Anywhere working together automate manual tasks with a reduction in FTEs, creating about a 30% reduction in FTEs by automating processes.""It provides a very robust environment to build an integration framework or workflow patterns that we have. A lot of changes or modifications have been made to this solution over the past few years. The features that they have added this time have helped developers like us to work on the developmental environment and leverage all the capabilities of the tool. This is what I like about this solution.""Everything is coupled together and comes as one solution.""One thing that I love about them is that they make it easier to integrate with other systems, especially with the use of smaller files.""The designer feature, compared to other solutions is easy to use."

"We were able to scale out using multiple application and web servers balanced by hardware load balancers and Weblogic clustering.""What I like best about Oracle SOA Suite is Oracle support. I also like the tool features, especially the integration feature.""It performs better in real-time transactions.""The most valuable feature of Oracle SOA Suite is all the platform's capabilities.""Conceptually, how it integrates a lot of essential enterprise process components. That's the most valuable.""The stability of the solution is the most valuable feature.""In case there is something that doesn't work out of the box, you have the flexibility to customize it.""The product provides transparency in finances."

More Oracle SOA Suite Pros →

"The solution is very scalable. It's easy to add processes even if you are new to the solution.""WebLogic Suite is scalable.""The most valuable feature is that it provides one place where you can control all of the services.""WebLogic adds a lot of value to business and investments.""What I've been seeing as the most valuable characteristics of WebLogic Suite include robustness and scalability. It's a really good solution, and I'm not saying this because my company is a partner of WebLogic Suite. I also like that with the newer versions of the solution, you can deploy WebLogic Suite faster. Oracle also provides excellent technical support.""Scalability on the solution is great. It's very very easy to scale.""This is a robust solution.""A valuable feature is its integration with Oracle Database."

More WebLogic Suite Pros →

Cons
"The configuration is not that easy, and the initial deployment took three months.""If the processing gets better, it would be more efficient.""The debugging needs improvement. There is some confusion surrounding the debugging.""IBM BPM lacks openness, that is, the ability to become open for new options in terms of APIs, front-end development, and ecosystem. IBM BPM has been quite closed. One of the main improvements would be to somehow embed the rules engine into IBM BPM. Merging IBM BRMS and the rules engine with IBM BPM would be helpful. If there was some simpler way to define rules without having to put IBM BRMS on top of it, it would be good. It's something that we can get out of Camunda but not out of IBM BPM.""The cost of the solution has room for improvement.""There is a lot of room for improvement of the dashboards.""We care about technology and support because support is very important and a BPM is not easy to implement.""I hope IBM uses something from IBM Content Navigator to make the interface easier to navigate."

More IBM BPM Cons →

"SOA""Decrease the number of internal resources which the product uses.""An area for improvement in Oracle SOA Suite is the cost. It could be lower.""I would like to see divided containers more separately as a microservice.""They supply lots of documentation but finding what we need is challenging at times.""The interface is too complicated. Making modifications still requires too much technical knowledge.""It's also not developer-friendly.""The product is not user-friendly."

More Oracle SOA Suite Cons →

"The solution needs to share more information in terms of training. There needs to be more documentation involved to help those who are completely new to the product.""I would like to see the licensing policy simplified.""I think the support could be much better.""The restart capability needs to be improved because it takes us 15 minutes to restart any application.""I noticed a few areas for improvement in WebLogic Suite. If you use the pure play higher-availability features, then yes, it can be switched over to the other system from the high-availability point of view, but that comes with a certain price. If you prefer simpler high-availability, that requires manual intervention. I'd also recommend a tuning feature in WebLogic Suite because it's not self-tuning, and this means you need thorough expertise to do the tuning and leverage the best benefit out of it. If Oracle makes WebLogic Suite automated or self-driven, then it becomes a wonderful product, similar to what Oracle did for the Autonomous Database which is self-driven or has an autonomous operating system. If automation is added in the next release of the solution, combined with more affordable pricing, though as a technical person, I know how much goes into having automation as a feature, and it could be difficult to lower the price, but if Oracle can do it, then that would make WebLogic Suite better.""This solution would benefit from the inclusion of a ripple start function for clusters.""This solution doesn't have connectors to other external applications.""Sometimes there are issues when we work on a VM because people use it to put all of their reports on it at the same time. Then I have to restart and rebuild the machine."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It may be cheaper for organizations to pay for the Viewer licenses that are immediately up and running in the cloud, rather than paying for someone to administer publishing to an intranet."
  • "Starting out with Express can also help reduce the cost for adopting the product."
  • "We have definitely seen ROI. When we first kicked it off, we said it had to pay for itself within three years, and it did."
  • "It gives us a good return on investment."
  • "We chose to purchase IBM BPM because it was bundled with the actual RPA program/solution that we decided to purchase. We decided to use Automation Anywhere tool (RPA), and it is was bundled with IBM BPM."
  • "Our customers do see ROI. They'll identify some particularly painful or uncoordinated processes to start with, then build out from there, picking off low hanging fruit."
  • "It has a low cost to implement. You'll get your money back in the same year that you complete the project."
  • "The cloud and license of the subscription model for IBM BPM can be complex. There are a lot of alternatives to choose from."

  • "Oracle pricing is expensive. Support is based on your license. AWS is much better than Oracle in this regard."
  • "It is necessary to evaluate the requirement regarding the platform usage and what the main operation area of the platform will be."
  • "This product is WebLogic based, hence it can be both resource hungry as well as expensive from a licensing point of view."
  • "Based on my knowledge, Oracle SOA Suite doesn't have user-based licensing. It has a system-based licensing model, so you pay for whole systems. Oracle SOA Suite is an expensive solution, so it's a four out of ten for me."
  • "The pricing is not very high as compared to its competitors."
  • "The product is moderately priced."
  • "Oracle SOA Suite is an expensive solution."

    Overview

IBM BPM is a business process management tool that provides a robust set of tools to author, test, and deploy business processes, as well as full visibility and insight to managing those business processes. The solution provides tooling and run time for process design, execution, monitoring, and optimization, along with basic system integration support. To support various levels of complexity and involvement with business process management, there are two different editions of the product: IBM BPM and IBM BPM Express.

IBM BPM has many valuable key features. Some of the most useful ones include:

    • Process designer authoring tool
    • Collaborative editing and immediate playback of processes
    • Interactive user interfaces
    • Process rules based on IBM Operational Decision Manager
    • IBM Integration Designer (BPEL and SOA)

    IBM BPM Benefits

There are many benefits to implementing IBM BPM. Some of the biggest advantages the solution offers include:

    • Increased efficiency and cost savings: IBM BPM can help you optimize existing processes and incorporate more structure into the development of new processes by removing process redundancies and bottlenecks.
    • More scalable processes: The solution enables better process execution and workflow automation, which transfers well when scaling processes.
    • Greater transparency: Because IBM BPM’s process automation clearly defines owners for tasks along the process, it provides more transparency and accountability throughout a given process. In turn, this fosters more communication among teams.
    • Less dependency on development teams: IBM BPM offers low-code features which remove potential dependencies on development. Business users can be onboarded onto these tools quickly and easily, thereby increasing process automation across the company.

    Reviews from Real Users

IBM BPM is a solution that stands out when compared to many of its competitors. Some of its major advantages are that it’s good for developing complex apps, is robust, and has helpful team management and process performance features.

Zoran C., Owner/CEO at IT SPHERE, says, “It is perfect if you have to develop complex apps without much coding (only java script). It is also good if you don't have much IT resources in your company and would like to involve business analysts in the process of developing apps. My opinion is that it can do about 50% of all developers' work.”

Suhas V., BPM Architect at GBM, mentions, “Overall the solution is robust and has the ability to integrate with any product for complex workflows."

A BPM Consultant at a financial services firm comments, "Some of the features that I like the most are team management and process performance. They are both very useful and very powerful with regard to the workflow."

A Digital Banking & Innovation Director at a financial services firm expresses, “The processing functionality makes it easy to change processes and workflows easily.”

Oracle SOA Suite is a comprehensive, standards-based software suite to build, deploy and manage integration following the concepts of service-oriented architecture (SOA). The components of the suite benefit from consistent tooling, a single deployment and management model, end-to-end security and unified metadata management. Oracle SOA Suite helps businesses lower costs by allowing maximum re-use of existing IT investments and assets, regardless of the environment (OS, application server, etc.) they run in, or the technology they were built upon. Its easy-to-use, re-use focused, unified application development tooling and end-to-end lifecycle management support further reduces development and maintenance cost and complexity.
