We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It's not only web-based but also for backend applications; you can also do the integration of the applications.""With certainty, the best feature of UFT is its compatibility with so many products, tools and technologies. It is a challenge currently to find a single tool on the market besides UFT that will successfully work for so many projects and environments. For example, UFT supports GUI testing of Oracle, PeopleSoft, PowerBuilder, SAP (v7.20), Siebel, Stingray, Terminal Emulator, Putty, and Windows Objects (particularly Dialog Boxes). Furthermore, UFT has the built-in functionality to import Excel input files.""The initial setup is relatively easy.""The best feature of UFT by far is its compatibility with a large variety of products, tools and technologies. It is currently a challenge to find a single tool on the market besides UFT that will successfully automate tests for so many projects and environments.""Micro Focus UFT One is a great tool and can be used in a variety of ways.""I like the fact that you can record and play the record of your step scripts, and UFT One creates the steps for you in the code base. After that, you can alter the code, and it's more of a natural language code.""It is very simple to use, and the scripting language is even easier.""The most valuable feature is that it is fast during test execution, unlike LoadRunner."

"They have a feature where they can record traffic and create tests on the report traffic.""Since the solution has both command line and automation options, it generates good reports.""We can automate our scenarios in a data driven format, which shows there is no rework on scripts. We only need to update the test data and run for a number of scenarios.""The solution is scalable.""Good write and read files which save execution inputs and outputs and can be stored locally.""If you want something that’s not provided out of the box, then you can write it yourself and integrate it with SOAtest.""We do a lot of web services testing and REST services testing. That is the focus of this product.""The testing time is shortened because we generate test data automatically with SOAtest."

"The most valuable feature of Ranorex Studio is its user-friendly interface.""Easy integration with CI Tools like Jenkins, TFS, and TeamCity.""Object identification is good.""I like the recording function and Ranorex Spy.""Code Conversion is one of the great features because sometimes, the automation tool doesn't have the capability of maneuvering around two specific evaluations.""This is a powerful, reliable and versatile all-around application testing suite.""The solution is intuitive and pretty self-sustaining. You don't need a lot of help with it in terms of setup or assistance.""Data security was prime for us. Being able to download and run tests on our local machines was a big plus. The flexibility Ranorex offers in terms of customization is outstanding."

Cons
"The price is very high. They should work to lower the costs for their clients.""Micro Focus UFT One could benefit from creating modules that are more accessible to non-technical users. Without a developer background or at least basic knowledge of VBScript, using Micro Focus UFT One may not be feasible for everyone. This is something that Micro Focus, now owned by OpenText, should consider in order to cater to business professionals as well. While Micro Focus UFT One does have a recording function, it still requires a certain level of IT proficiency to create effective automation, which may be challenging for those outside of the technical field.""I am not sure if they have a vision of how they want to position the leads in the market, because if you look at Tosca, Tosca is one of the automation tools that have a strategy, and it recently updated its strategy with SAP. They are positioning them as a type of continuous testing automation tool. And if you notice Worksoft, particularly the one tool for your enterprise application, your Worksoft is positioning. I am not sure if Micro Focus UFT has a solid strategy in place. They must differentiate themselves so that people recognize Micro Focus UFT for that reason.""The product doesn't provide free training for the basic features.""The solution is expensive.""Object identification has room for improvement, to make it more efficient.""Micro Focus UFT One could improve by having more maintenance. Every time when we run the solution and develop something, the next time when we run it it doesn't recognize the object. I have to redesign the object again and then run the solution. It's really a headache, it's not consistent.""I'd like to see test case-related reports included in the solution."

More OpenText UFT One Cons →

"The feedback that we received from the DevOps of our organization was that the tool was a little heavy from the transformation perspective.""Compatibility with HTTP 1.1 and TLS 1.2 needs to be improved.""The summary reports could be improved.""From an automation point of view, it should have better clarity and be more user friendly.""The performance could be a bit better.""Tuning the tool takes time because it gives quite a long list of warnings.""During the process of working with SOAtest and building test cases, the .TST files will grow. A negative side effect is that saving your changes takes more time.""Reporting facilities can be better."

More Parasoft SOAtest Cons →

"When we have updated the solution in the past there have been issues with the libraries. They need to make it clear that the libraries need to be upgraded too.""One of the areas the service could be improved would be to have the training in Italian.""Other OS Support, Ranorex Spy performance improvement (Especially for Silverlight controls).""When Ranorex is upgraded, the compatibility with other projects, in version control, in-house or on-premise, fails on occasion. However, overall, the stability is good.""We are mainly working for manufacturing OEMs but the integration is not available. It would be a benefit if they built one integration tool for all the Teamcenter home servers and software as the main PLM data source. It is a simple process at this time, the integration could be made easier.""The automation of the SAP application could perhaps be improved to make it much simpler.""Binding to other sources is very good but the object recognition in .NET desktop applications often doesn't work.""There were a lot of issues we faced. One notable improvement would be better API integration within the tool itself, as we still rely on external tools like Postman."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It took about five years to break even. UFT is costly."
  • "The licensing and pricing model is confusing."
  • "It's an expensive solution."
  • "For the price of five automation licenses, you simply would not be able to hire five manual testers for two years worth of 24/7 manual testing work on demand."
  • "The price is only $3,000. I don't know how many QA analysts you would have in any given company. Probably no more than five or 10. So if it's a large corporation, it can easily afford $15,000 to $25,000. I don't see that being an issue."
  • "The way the pricing model works is that you pay a whole boatload year one. Then, every year after, it is around half or less. Because instead of paying for the new product, you are just paying for the support and maintenance of it. That is probably one of the biggest things that I hear from most people, even at conferences, "Yeah, I would love to use UFT One, but we don't have a budget for it.""
  • "The pricing fee is good. If someone makes use of the solution once a day for a half hour then the fee will be more expensive. For continuous use and application of the solution to different use cases, the fee is average."
  • "The price is one aspect that could be improved."

  • "From what I understand, Parasoft SOAtest isn't the cheapest option. But it has a lot to offer."
  • "The cost of Parasoft seems to have gotten higher with a projection that wasn't really stipulated for our company. They've done a tremendous job at negotiating those deals."
  • "I think it would be a great step to decrease the price of the licenses."
  • "It is an expensive product, so think carefully about whether it fits your purposes and is the right tool for you."
  • "We are completed satisfied with Parasoft SOAtest. The ROI is more than 95%."
  • "The license price is a little expensive, but it provides a better outcome in terms of the end-to-end automation process."
  • "They do have a confusing licensing structure."
  • "The price is around $5,000 USD."
  • More Parasoft SOAtest Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "We paid €3,000 (approximately $3,300 USD) for this solution. When you add the runtime licenses it will be €3,500 (approximately $3,900 USD)."
  • "The licensing fees depend on the number of users."
  • "There are several types of licenses and you need to choose depending on your needs and level of usage."
  • "Licensing fees are paid on a yearly basis."
  • "Our company has one license per user with each costing two lakh rupees."
  • "This solution is a more expensive solution compared to some of the other competitors."
