We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It creates transparency and makes everything work by being more transparent.""We can monitor MPLS network VPN, network configuration, and backups. It's highly scalable for network configuration management.""The most valuable feature is automatic discovery.""The containerization of different objects was very helpful in building an org structure. Being able to separately manage your MSP clients with separate visibility was also helpful.""The capability of handling and monitoring with SNMP and working with the SNMP traps is much better than other products.""It has a high-quality graphical interface.""Scalability is a highly rated feature of this solution. It is better than some of the other tools that I've used in terms of scalability. We scaled it to tens of thousands of devices.""Some of the most valuable features are it's highly scalable, the carrier is great, and if something has SNMP, it can monitor it. It's a great network fault management solution."

"Incident management is streamlined with Moogsoft. One standout feature is its unique situation-creation capability, differentiating it from other fault management tools. While other tools typically convert alarms directly into tickets or incidents, Moogsoft adds a middle layer where multiple alarms can be aggregated into one incident. Moogsoft's strong AI capabilities also allow it to correlate similar alarms automatically based on past experiences.""The product currently seems to be a few steps ahead of the competition.""I like the prediction features.""Moogsoft AIOps integrates seamlessly with 50-plus IT monitoring, automation, service management, notification, and collaboration tools. It also provides a great and easy-to-use interface for observing.""The AI component allows you to check previous cases and diagnose problems easily.""The solution is extremely helpful with correlating IP failures and it has a very good sort of flow chart of IP systems. For example, if you see a failure in system A, you can track it down to the system causing the issue. This is a very handy feature.""The Event Management feature is quite valuable.""Moogsoft is easily deployable and ready to use."

More Moogsoft Pros →

"The features I found most valuable are the user interface and a wide range of network devices that are easy to configure.""The implementation process is very straightforward.""The solution is quite mature and very stable.""The most valuable feature is that it provides network segregation for server monitoring.""I really enjoy network traffic triggers that allow us to check traffic threshold from ISP.""Its overall flexibility is most valuable. When our customers have some custom applications that are not necessarily covered by the community or a standard monitoring tool, we use Zabbix to build our own modules with our own templates. This feature has been useful in using Zabbix for infrastructure and IT monitoring. It has also been useful for industrial equipment monitoring. Zabbix is very lightweight. It is efficient in terms of performance because it doesn't use a lot of resources.""The initial setup, while not simple, is easier than other products.""The most valuable features are the monitoring and the ease with which we can set it up at customer sites with our custom Zabbix proxy and tools."

Cons
"Huawei devices are not properly supported, and there are incompatibility issues related to certain protocols.""Our consultant was four months on-site doing Spectrum setup and working through issues.""We have had some issues with the spec server and the high availability replication of data. It fails over well, but it does not come back very well. We get duplicated events.""The platform is complicated to use.""There should be a facility to integrate with other monitoring applications that are currently running in the environment.""The Spectrum OneClick is a Java-based client, and that's aging. Really, before any new feature integration, I'd love to see a comprehensive rebuild of the UI.""DX Spectrum needs to incorporate faster support.""I would recommend AI capability built-in so it becomes more predictable and we jump ahead of the curve. This is the one really important feature I would really like to see in any product that provides alarms."

More DX Spectrum Cons →

"Moogsoft is dependent on external products to do orchestration and SOP-based functionality.""I would like to see how Moogsoft integrates with the multi-cloud and brings out a single pane of glass, to see everything on one screen.""I would like to see more integrations. It is rather difficult to install the enterprise systems with the agents.""They are very much dependent on open-source technologies like RabbitMQ message bus. They are using open-source databases, Apache Tomcat, NGINX. If we face any issues with Apache Tomcat or the RabbitMQ message bus, then we do not get support from them. We have to troubleshoot it ourselves.""Some additional API interfacing would be great to enable getting the data out of AIOps programmatically.""I would like to see additional reports or information on the dashboard that includes metrics about CPU usage and memory.""The documentation and flexibility for generic integration could be improved.""They should consider including Chatbot."

More Moogsoft Cons →

"Outside of the normal standard monitoring, I would like to extend patching, importing patching, and supporting patching for Windows Servers.""There is a bit of a learning curve during installation.""Look and feel.""In terms of user-friendliness, large maps could be more interactive. We should be able to click on some areas and move some objects. It would make it simpler to see things while analyzing some dedicated parameters.""Its UI should be improved. They did some improvements in version 5, but it could benefit from some more work. Its integrations should also be improved. They've been active for one year, and they seem to have noticed that. It has new integrations, but it could benefit from more integrations. As far as I know, there is no model to push statistics, metrics, or events towards Zabbix. This type of API isn't yet there, whereas some other tools provide an API for this.""The System Center Operations Manager can be improved.""The reports are not great and should be improved.""We would like to monitor other touchpoints such as ATM machines. It would be great if it can provide monitoring of ATM machines. Compatibility with other products would also be great."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It is very pricey. With the current trend of enterprises moving towards cheaper and more modern looking solutions like ManageEngine, SevOne, ServicePilot, and Paesller."
  • "It’s a great tool, but an expensive one. Learn how to use it properly."
  • "The cost of some of these products are a little cost prohibitive, which is unfortunate. We have to find lower cost solutions for some of the things that we have to pull in. For the most part, CA has capabilities in pretty much everything that you would need. You just have to figure out where are you going to spend the most money for what you have to actually get done. You can do all these things but, which ones do you have to do? And that's hard to choose sometimes because you want to do them all."
  • "In general, the license cost will be about 30% of the total TCO for this tool (hardware/support team, OS costs, and OS management)."
  • "The product, support, and maintenance are all expensive, which is another reason that we are switching to another solution."
  • "The price is very high."
  • "The price of the solution is reasonable."
  • "Currently, a perpetual license but some services are moving to a subscription"

  • "It's a very cost-effective and competitive product."
  • "When compared to other solutions, it is quite good."
  • "Moogsoft's licensing is consumption-based, so the price may increase depending on the environment."

  • "It’s free of cost."
  • "It is a true open-source solution, so there are no licensing costs."
  • "The product is an open source and free solution."
  • "It's free software released under the GNU/GPL license."

I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want using these, but they require quite some expertise before you can use them. Then there are the ones that are not open source, the enterprise softwares and cost you some money, but on the other hand, they are extremely easy to set-up and learn. You can have them up and running in a matter of minutes. And then there are those which are completely cloud based. They can be free of cost or charge some money depending on the software. The good thing about these is that you don’t have to install any extra software, and it can be managed completely online but then again these have limited features and you cannot exploit them to the full extent as you can do with the open-source and to some extent the enterprise software, so I won’t suggest you to use these, because these are generally not the complete solutions and require other support software to achieve the same. Below I have listed the outstanding pros and cons of the various Network analyzers that you can look into Nagios Pros: Nagios offers an extensive set of collector plug-ins that allows users to gather performance and availability data from a broad range of operating systems, including  Windows and Netware Nagios… Read more →
