We performed a comparison between AppDynamics, Broadcom DX Application Performance Management, and Splunk Enterprise Security based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out what your peers are saying about Datadog, Dynatrace, New Relic and others in Application Performance Monitoring (APM) and Observability."Provides monitoring more around business processes versus just servers, applications, etc. E.g., with complex systems, where a business process passes across multiple applications, the business needs us to monitor the heath of the process, not just a segment of the application."
"The release management capabilities are great."
"We previously had an operations team continuously monitoring applications. Now, they just have set things up and our developers can monitor, view, and act on them, accordingly."
"The most valuable feature of AppDynamics is its ability to track the transactions between different applications."
"The AppDyniamics technical support is good. We haven't had any problems with them. They answer very quickly."
"I like that AppDynamics allows every organization to have what they want to see, like for my organization, we're able to customize the dashboard to show us details of what we want to see in our transactions."
"It has improved my organization because we are able to proactively and reactively look at performance issues."
"This is a stable product and we definitely plan to continue using it in the future."
"Cross-VM transaction traces provide a complete "what happened where"."
"We make custom dashboards for our development areas so they can understand how busy traffic affects their application with traffic. They can see how traffic directly affects their application in positive or negative ways."
"In terms of stability, it has been stable so far."
"Users no longer need to depend upon the console for a compatible Java version. Now, users can directly learn the version, perform all their actions, and see all of those performance-related issues."
"Proactive snapshots of transactions and all details of a transaction are saved in case of an error."
"Product performance is awesome. It's covering all aspects of the application; good database metrics and internal application metrics. Just tons and tons of data."
"If we see something that we need to change or monitor, we can get it scripted pretty quickly."
"For the most part, we run constantly without any issue at this point because of APM."
"Without Splunk Enterprise Security, it would be difficult for us to manage and prioritize alerts. There's a potential to lose track of important notifications, and it's essential to our security that we do not miss anything. Splunk has improved our investigations because the reporting and dashboarding make things so much easier. We can provide weekly or monthly reports. I also like Splunk's ability to integrate."
"I haven't had the chance to properly sink my teeth into Enterprise Security but so far I like that they added the MITRE ATT&CK features."
"The correlation capabilities are the first value that our clients say they like with Splunk."
"Splunk has a wide range of features that customers use to find and analyze all kinds of logs."
"The most valuable feature of Splunk Enterprise Security is the comprehensive logging capabilities it provides."
"The solution has plenty of features that are good."
"The ability to quickly search logs, performance data, and other inputs has helped tremendously with troubleshooting."
"It is easy to use in any environment."
"The dashboard can be better. Also, the automated reports could be improved."
"The cost element is an issue. I can't expect the company to change its way of work. However, given the fact that we earn and do all our business in South African Rand, I would prefer to buy in Rand as opposed to the American dollar or British pound."
"At this time, we don't have much visibility on the virtual environment, monitoring, and all other things. We have visibility only for database monitoring, and we have noticed performance impact when deploying database agents on the database server. We got to know this from AppDynamics support also that we should not deploy database agents from the database server. When agents are deployed on the same server and the database is monitored from there, we are not getting database server metrics. Therefore, we don't have those insights, and sometimes, we struggle because of that. They can improve this functionality so that we do not have a performance impact, and we can deploy anywhere. This would help us a lot. In terms of end-user monitoring, currently, it is not working for us because there are some complexities. It is a little complicated, and it takes a little bit of time to understand where you need to make changes. It would be very helpful if they can provide some template designs for end-user monitoring. When our servers are running on VMs, we don't get many insights from the VM side. I don't know whether it is possible to have visibility beyond the database, server, and application and whether there are some features where we can deploy AppDynamics on VMs as well. Such functionality would give us more control over storage, VM, OS, and database. It will also provide complete visibility of our hardware and software."
"Their support should be improved. Clusters and monitoring can also be improved."
"There could be some improvement in the constructions of the diagrams, it is too difficult currently."
"The Log Analytics feature is a bit complicated."
"Installation and configuration can be very tough. An average user without specialized knowledge can't do this. You need to have DevOps and QA teams handle it. During installation, a lot of customers get stuck trying to track the database or the API part, and they have to contact customer support."
"I’d like to see better out-of-the-box visual reporting so that we can roll this up to management."
"Java Console uses too much memory."
"They need to add support for new frameworks, or at least provide a broader guide/perspectives to add them to monitoring specific agents to retrieve metrics with thresholds as a reference to guide the customer as to where they must go to achieve this."
"The reason it's not a ten is because they don't focus enough on improving over time like other competitors do who have a more modern and complete tool."
"We need more capabilities to analyze the information that tools collects; for example, using artificial intelligence, or something like that."
"One of the challenges is agent releases. So as we employ agents, they are done relatively manually. A little bit of automating of agent release would be helpful."
"Support could be much better."
"Technical support needs to be more responsive and address support tickets more quickly."
"Broadcom DX Application Performance Management could improve its supportability to the current technologies and the end-to-end correlation feature should be done automatically without custom configurations. Additionally, there should not be any configuration changes to the client-side when deploying the solution."
"The product is relatively expensive."
"On-premises scaling of the solution is a bit more limited than it is on the cloud."
"The solution could use a different licensing model."
"The use cases provided by Splunk are a good starting point, but could cover many additional topics to ensure that a smaller or less experienced shop might maximize the value of an ES deployment."
"We had an instance when Splunk failed and it took us a couple of days to recover."
"Splunk is not very user-friendly. It has a complex architecture in comparison to other solutions on the market."
"AngularJS/ReactJS inclusion could be made easier in GUI."
"I love the solution, but I would like to see more accessibility to the machine-learning capabilities that are sprinkled around Splunk."
