We performed a comparison between SAP SQL Anywhere, SQL Server, and Vertica based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out what your peers are saying about Microsoft, Oracle, SAP and others in Relational Databases Tools."It works well in general."
"The auto-backup replication is a perfect feature. That is the feature I liked the most."
"We've found the solution very reliable overall. It's very fast."
"SAP SQL Anywhere is very helpful."
"The most valuable features of SAP SQL Anywhere are the ease of use and the user interface is intuitive."
"The initial setup is time-efficient and can be done independently."
"SQL Server's performance is fine."
"Its speed and the ease of server management are valuable. If I compare Microsoft SQL Server to MySQL, what I like in Microsoft SQL Server is the speed. We are using Microsoft Management Studio for managing our Microsoft SQL Server, and the user interface that I get to work with is also better."
"The solution has proven to be very stable."
"There is no lack of features."
"This solution has proven stability and operational power."
"The solution is very easy to use. It's intuitive and easy to navigate. Overall, it's a straightforward product."
"It is secure, and it is fast. For our present database size, we are using the Always-On feature on SQL Server so that our transactions are replicated among three servers. If one server goes down, we can find the data from other servers. We have benefited from this feature."
"Speed and resiliency are probably the best parts of this product."
"It has improved my organization's functionality and performance."
"It maximizes cloud economics with Eon Mode by scaling cluster size to meet variable workload demands."
"It's the fastest database I have ever tested. That's the most important feature of Vertica."
"I have found the solution to be scalable."
"The solution is quick, has good compression data, and is not expensive."
"The solution has great capabilities. The tool that instructs the internal database forward is easy to use and is very powerful."
"DBAs don’t need to add a partition every month/quarter like with other DBs."
"We have had some stability issues with SAP SQL Anywhere, but I am not sure if it is an application or network issue. We sometimes have a large amount of data being queried and it cannot handle it."
"The interface is not easy in comparison to the SQL Server. It could be more user-friendly."
"SAP SQL Anywhere needs to incorporate functionalities like SAP S/4HANA."
"A problem we are experiencing now is when doing a backup in SQL 2012 and 14."
"It is not as secure as it could be."
"The solution’s pricing and integration could be improved."
"SQL is a highly unstable server - there are patch updates on the Windows server every week, which is why we only use it for non-critical systems."
"There should be more tools and documentation for tuning the performance of Microsoft SQL Server. It would be nice to have more tools for tuning because currently, all the tuning that we have to do with our databases is almost manual. We have to read a bunch of knowledge base articles, and this information should be better documented. Its free text search should also be improved. It is quite important for us. Currently, we're developing our own free text search because of the lacking flexibility in Microsoft SQL Server. Therefore, we're kind of using elastic search and making different implementations in order to reach our targets. Using just the native free text search of Microsoft SQL Server is not enough for us. It should have more flexible features as compared to the current version."
"Microsoft support is an issue unto itself."
"Support could be improved."
"One thing I don't like about SQL Server is the way they've set up security with users and groups. It just doesn't seem that intuitive to me. Adding some more explanatory information might help some."
"The number of concurrent users is too limited and other databases are better than SQL in this regard."
"Improvement in SQL Server should focus on lowering the high cost, especially for environments requiring extensive CPU and memory usage like data warehousing"
"Limitations in group by projections is where I would like to see an improvement."
"One feature, which has really benefited us, is the scalability offered by Vertica as it has enabled Pythian's clients to manage data with agility."
"The biggest problem is the cost of cloud deployment."
"Vertica offers a platform-as-a-service version, but their software-as-a-service solution is only available on AWS. They need to get a SaaS version on Azure and GCP as fast as possible."
"Whatever's out, the core is not always as great as the engine, especially their first version."
"I would personally like to see extended developer tooling suited to Vertica – think published PowerDesigner SQL dialect support."
"Very bad support, I would rate it two out of 10."
"In a future release, we would like to have artificial intelligence capabilities like neural networks. Customers are demanding this type of analytics."
