We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The solution's initial setup isn't too complicated.""The solution is stable.""Microsoft BI is scalable.""I like that I can use Power BI to upload data. That is very important for me. The visualization is also convenient and easy to use.""The initial setup is straightforward.""Technical support is quite good.""Technical support has been great.""Power BI is a complete ecosystem. It has an integrated ETL tool and good connectivity with applications such as Office 365 and SQL. There are also solutions for RPA, such as Microsoft Power Automate and Microsoft Power Apps. Power BI now has integration with Power Query, which has an AI feature for text analytics. Text analytics is a very good feature. This feature is also there in Tableau, but I like it in Power BI because you can write something like, "What is the total sale in the Eastern region?", and it will give you the answer. For example, when you have different types of user opinions, you just run one algorithm and you will have the output that provides the number of positive and negative responses. You can even have a dashboard with positive remarks. This feature has been introduced recently. Power BI supports the DAX and Power Query M languages. These languages are making Power BI very strong in data analytics, and you can do many types of analysis."

"Although Tableau isn't the best for us when it comes to processing and working on live data, it is very good at extracting data for analysis.""You are able to see and follow trends.""Tableau has many different connectors for different databases. It's very easy to connect to MySQL, SQL Server, Amazon EMR, Presto, Redshift, BigQuery, and so on.""It's the ease of use. It is also a self-service tool so it decreases the burden on having centralized IT-type teams or developers.""The geospatial maps representation and the visualizations are nice.""The most valuable part of the solution is the general dashboard features.""Its dashboarding is the most valuable. It is easy to create visualizations and dashboards and import Excel sheets and ESP files in Tableau as compared to other tools.""I have found the solution easy to use and the interface is very good."

More Tableau Pros →

"It has increased the speed of reporting.""In Data Lab, you can schedule any testing you want to do in production. You can take a small subset of data from production, copy it there, and run all your tests. It reduces your testing costs because it's all in the lab."

Cons
"I would like for there to be some type of user manual that shows steps on how to navigate the solution.""Adding paginated reports to this tool could be of great help for users who want to move away from SSRS.""The licensing needs improvement. There needs to be a middle option between Pro and Premium versions.""There could be an integrated AI that can automatically analyze some of your data and highlight or provide suggestions. For example, when you are looking at a data set, it can suggest putting it into a certain type of chart so that you gain different insights or a trend line. You would almost have templates that it would recommend for you.""They asked you to pay if you want to synchronize more than eight times, you would have to go to a Power BI enterprise license, which is much more costly.""The look is simple, and could be a little more professional.""There is no specific area that I have a problem with. It's just that, with whatever feature you come across, every visual has its own formatting and behavior. What you get in one visual for a feature, you don't seem to get in another.""Its setup and support should be improved. We would like to see more material for developers that provides clear explanations about how we can do data mining by using Microsoft BI. It would also be good if we can connect a feature to other customized machine learning solutions."

More Microsoft Power BI Cons →

"I would like to be able to set the parameters in a more specific manner.""Firstly, the high cost of Tableau licenses makes it inaccessible for many mid-scale clients. Secondly, the server requires at least 128GB of RAM, which can be impractical for some systems. We need a dedicated system to use Tableau.""The data processing in Tableau is pathetic compared to Qlik.""The ability to use it on MAC machines. As far as I know, this is not possible.""I would like Tableau to handle geospatial data better in terms of multiple layers and shapefiles.""I take a long time to process the hundreds of thousands or millions of records that must be processed every day.""Whenever it comes to specialized visualization, Tableau is an absolute failure.""Improvements in schema security and row/column security need to be made."

More Tableau Cons →

"Their level of technical support is adequate. It could be better.""If I want to implement an upgrade, I'd like to see how it will be different. Ideally, Data Lab should help me test production items and also do future things. Future releases should be downloadable and testable in Data Lab.""The initial setup was complex as we had to rewrite a lot of the code."

  • "MS BI comes with all the tools and it is, to the best of my knowledge, the most affordable solution."
  • "All in all, for the price, this is an excellent tool for helping your organization turn mounds of data into useful insights."
  • "I would advise that Microsoft BI products are rightly priced and the licensing is easy to follow and to fulfill."
  • "Remove the cost of a licence to show a dashboard within SharePoint. Why should readers of a dashboard have to pay to view? "
  • "Make it low in cost. It is a no-brainer!"
  • "Globally, we evaluated a number of products, including Salesforce's product, Microsoft won on the ground of simple functionally and cost."
  • "Paid for itself in the first month."
  • More Microsoft Power BI Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "For big business, Tableau could be expensive as having a lot of Tableau server users (entering with a browser to reports) could be a bit expensive."
  • "Best advice on pricing is to anticipate the desire for more licenses once the results of this product are acknowledged in other parts of your company."
  • "Paying for users you never setup or buying expensive desktop licenses for users who can solve their users with web editing on the server are the two biggest expenses."
  • "Buy 50 at a time. Project your use base every three months, and project your requirements forward."
  • "Tableau can be costly (but this can be indefinable, such as user experience vs. cheaper etc.)"
  • "I wish there was more of a subscription model with the pricing when it comes to Tableau, so you can get all the latest version upgrades/features if you pay monthly/annually."
  • "The cost is high."
  • "Deployment of dashboards to viewers and unit supervisors can be prohibitively expensive."
  • More Tableau Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "I would advise others to look into migration and setup as a fixed price and incorporate a SaaS option for other Teradata services."
  • "When looking into implementing this product, pricing is the main issue followed by technical expertise."
