We performed a comparison between IBM Db2 Database, MySQL, and Teradata based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out what your peers are saying about Microsoft, Oracle, SAP and others in Relational Databases Tools."IBM DB2 pureScale Feature is valuable."
"The most valuable feature of the solution is its compatibility with IBM Power Systems."
"The most valuable features of this solution are security and stability."
"The solution's initial setup is straightforward."
"Its functionality and availability are valuable. Its availability is great. It is available 99.99% of the time."
"Scales well enough for a relational database."
"Your iOS, your throughputs, your performance cycles, you cannot touch it with Microsoft or with Oracle scalability-wise. That is far and away the most scalable systems and the highest performing systems of the set of them."
"The most valuable features are with the industrial side."
"The solution is very simple. It's easy to use. That's the most important feature."
"The feature that I have found most valuable is its ubiquity. MySQL is everywhere, so if I need to find a developer to do things to it that I don't know, it's very easy to find someone who has expertise in it."
"The solution has been very easy to scale so far."
"The installation process for the most scalable solution is remarkably quick, taking only a short amount of time."
"The solution helps us perform with our databases and extract data."
"I like the JSON stuff."
"The product is flexible and easy to use."
"I like the simplistic view of MySQL to build custom queries and things like that as compared to SQL Server, which seems more cluttered. SQL Server has a query analyzer. MySQL pretty much does the same, and performance-wise, it has less overhead for connecting to our ERP system. It seems more responsive and cleaner. With MySQL, you get what you need without any overbloating, for which Microsoft is known. That's why they have so many constant security patches for everything because there is so much stuff, which degrades performance."
"The key advantages are Performance when processing Terabytes of data and scalability."
"It has a solid set of tools and consulting services."
"Auto-partitioning and indexing, and resource allocation on the fly are key features."
"It is a stable program."
"The most valuable features of Teradata are that it is a massively parallel platform and I can receive a lot of data and get the queries out correctly, especially if it's been appropriately designed. The native features make it very suitable for multiple large data tasks in a structured data environment. Additionally, the automation is very good."
"The performance is great, we are able to query our data in one operation."
"It's very, very fast"
"Improved performance of ETL procedures, reporting."
"They should simplify the management of Db2 as a relational database system. There should be the simplification of management. This is probably one of the most important asks for being successful in the future."
"The capabilities of this solution could improve."
"Microsoft SQL Server is comparatively very simple to use. I wish IBM would move towards making Db2 easy to use for both basic and advanced users. This is where I see room for advancement. Db2 is also more expensive than Microsoft SQL Server, and its price can be reduced. The replication feature needs to be there in Db2. Microsoft provides similar functionality in SQL Server. IBM also has similar functionality, but it exists in a different product. So, to have the replication ability, you have to buy a different product. It makes sense to have this functionality within Db2 instead of a different product. It will also be helpful in terms of competition. In Africa, the problem for Db2 is competition. Oracle Database and Microsoft SQL Server have been in this market for a very long time. These companies have built the ecosystem and the brand within this market for a very long time. So, they are very popular with users. Db2 or IBM came a little later in the game, and that's where the problem lies. They also don't do a lot of marketing for it, which is also a problem."
"Do not use support. Freely available documentation is a bit weak."
"The management of Db2 should be simplified because there are not too many specialists in this area, and the learning curve of Db2 specialists is very long. After the courses, probably it takes one and a half or two years to get to the point when you are using the product properly in the production systems. So, the complexity is very high, and the most important thing is to simplify the management of the product, including self-maintenance. They should simplify the installation, management, and monitoring to simplify the product. It takes too long for a person to be a specialist in this product."
"The technical support can be faster."
"IBM Db2 Database could improve with better security."
"It would be helpful to have a hybrid data storage facility that includes NoSQL technologies."
"The manuals or documentation could be better."
"MySQL could be improved by adding more automation."
"We have encountered some performance issues, and the solution takes time for performing complex queries."
"I would like to have features that allow us to jump between the cloud and our on-premises system."
"At times, the autoscaling does not happen when there is a surge in load."
"The only service which could be improved is its usability. The entire user experience needs to be revamped to meet the 2018 design standards."
"I would like to have the ability to cancel a query in SQL Developer."
"I did the implementation of the solution myself and I used community support. The support from the vendor costs money."
"We tried to use case Teradata for a data warehouse system, but we had some problems in relation to the Teradata system, CDC tools, and source databases. We were unable to transfer data from HPE Integrity mainframe to Teradata."
"Query language and its functionality are rather limited, compared to Oracle or even SQL Server. However, it is possible to perform any kind of logic in it (though some workarounds may be required)."
"Teradata should focus on functionality for building predictive models because, in that regard, it can definitely improve."
"Teradata needs to expand the kind of training that's available to customers. Teradata only offers training directly and doesn't delegate to any third-party companies. As a result, it's harder to find people trained on Teradata in our market relative to Oracle."
"The current operational approach needs improvement."
"I've been using the same UI for 20 years in Teradata. It could use some updating. Adding more stability around Teradata Studio would be outstanding. Teradata Studio is a Java-based version of their tool. It's much better now, but it still has some room for improvement."
"Teradata can improve the way it handles big data and unstructured data."
"The scalability could be better. The on-premises solution is always more complicated to scale."
