We performed a comparison between IBM Tivoli CDP for Files, Veeam Backup & Replication, and Veritas Backup Exec based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out what your peers are saying about Veeam Software, Zerto, Commvault and others in Backup and Recovery."The restoration and infrastructure is extremely reliable."
"Its ease of use for restore is really good. For Exchange, the Exchange Active Directory is great."
"The most valuable features of Veeam Backup Replication are ease of use, dashboards, and reporting."
"The most valuable feature of Veeam Backup & Replication is that we can back up in-house and multiple cloud providers' storage."
"They introduced a new feature called the Immutable Repository feature, which helps protect environments from malware attacks that target backup file extensions."
"It is cost-effective. A lot of times, people pick Veeam because of its price."
"I like all of Veeam's features, but the most important ones are the tape backups and replication. Those are the two options available for us, and it's enough for our needs."
"I think that the scalability is very good. We can't compare it."
"I'm pleased with the ability to search for documents; it's very useful."
"The most valuable features of Veritas Backup Exec are the easy-to-use intuitive GUI. It is very easy to understand. I have never lost data and I have been able to recover all the data I need."
"Setting up Backup Exec is straightforward. It took less than two weeks to get it up and running. You need maybe two people at most if you have a Veritas-certified engineer."
"One nice feature with Backup Exec is mainly that disaster can happen to any server and the disk image can be destroyed very easily. It's also easy to fully email the backup image and restore the server."
"Good open file option feature, SQL agent, and EM agent."
"The most valuable feature is the user-friendly interface."
"Compression is the most valuable feature."
"In the global business world, Veritas has a very good name. I think they have a good solid product, and they are always trying to improve it, and update it. ;They know what the client actually needs, and they are up to the challenge of satisfying those needs."
"The solution was stable and reliable."
"We would like to have the opportunity to omit data from being backed up. For example, we have three virtual machines, each with three disks. When running the backup, it will automatically take each disk rather than allowing us to select what data we want backed."
"When you want to restore files, you first need to restore the machine, and then you have to mount it, and then restore the files."
"In the next release, I would like replication directly to the cloud to be included."
"Cross-hypervisor replication can be improved."
"Veeam Backup Replication has agents for Linux, but they are not supporting Cluster Shared Volumes. It would be great to have agents for Linux be cluster-aware, just like the Windows agents. That's the main pain point. In addition, we should be able to handle the automation of Oracle backups from the backup server. We should be able to schedule, control, and deploy them from the backup server rather than relying on scripts and/or the system you are backing up to perform the backup. Currently, we install the plug-in inside Oracle VMs and then use crontabs to handle the task schedule on each machine for scheduling the backups. Veeam Backup Replication should also support the automation of Nutanix backups from the backup server, not from the proxy. The other not so major thing is that they don't support legacy systems because Veeam is a new company. It is not as old as other companies. They don't support physical workloads that are really old, which a major challenge, but they do have a point. Legacy systems should be virtualized, and if they're virtualized, then the backup is not an issue with Veeam, but some customers like the physical setup, and they don't want to have it virtual."
"There needs to be more integration with VMware and the virtual machine."
"The tech support needs improvement."
"Although the solution offers documentation, it has it only in English, which doesn't help us much in Belarus."
"In the future, Veeam should release a hardware backup appliance that can be integrated with their software."
"There's one common issue with tape backups: the tape might have some space left, but Backup Exec says it's not writable and needs replacement. We've encountered this with multiple clients, so it doesn't seem environment-specific. It's likely related to the software. We usually just format the tape and use it again without much investigation."
"Whenever a job fails, it would be a great improvement to be able to resume the job from that feature. Suppose a job was started this morning and that it is going on while there are interruptions like network issues, server restart issues, server connectivity issues, services stopping, etc. For some reason, let's assume that the job failed or that it was mistakenly canceled by another person. It will be a great improvement if that failed job can be continued."
"It could be improved in the area of reporting and ease-of-use."
"The integration with SaaS applications like Office 365 needs to be improved."
"The EDR should be looked at, as the operating system is too weak."
"A web console would be great because nowadays a lot of products are web-based and you can access the console from various environments. So I would recommend bringing this feature in the next solution."
"The deduplication feature can be improved."
"It could provide better ease of management than one of its competitors."
