Pros
"It's pretty easy to learn. Once someone taught me, I was able to navigate it quite easily.""It is free if you use Microsoft Office 365.""The most valuable feature is to be able to modify the file online and keep it stored on the cloud, since it is not necessary to download it to make modifications.""They have support for integration with a lot of tools.""We use Microsoft OneDrive for file sharing without the need for additional hardware (such as flash drives or external hard drives).""It was extremely easy to setup.""The most valuable feature of the solution is the amount of space allotted to each user that is issued a subscription.""The stability of Microsoft OneDrive is very good, it is reliable. There were multiple instances where I had lost my valuable data on hard drives in several other places. However, with Microsoft OneDrive, I've never lost a single file."

"An advantage is integration with your IP directory.""We like how the solution allows us to have retention of records and workflows, as well as its fire plan.""The tool's implementation has made life easier for customers. It is sold by SAP. The integration between SAP and the solution is good, making it easy to access the documents. It is widely recognized as a market leader in enterprise document management.""It has a robust search but has often been difficult for people to learn.""The product can be integrated with different solutions.""I did not face issues with the product's scalability...The solution's technical support is good."

More OpenText Content Manager Pros →

"It has made us faster and more efficient.""The most valuable features are the collaboration and sharing.""It offers an easy way to store unstructured content (.pdf, .doc, .xls, images) and to tag them with metadata.""Staff training is reduced because learning basic SharePoint is not as complicated as an EDRMS.""SharePoint enabled the staff to share documents and work on a document simultaneously.""What I like about SharePoint is that they keep up with a lot of updates, and they bring out new features. I also like that the system is integrated with the Microsoft 365 suite of apps.""The access control is definitely a good feature. We also appreciate the improvements they've made to the online applications, where multiple users can work on the same documents simultaneously. Everything syncs automatically.""It has helped us with storing all the documents, which means that people are not going to intervene. There is a way of extracting knowledge within documentation and tracking it. There are knowledge assets for where documentation is stored, indexed and searchable through SharePoint."

Cons
"The solution has sub-folders, which are visible to various team members. If you want to ensure the information is private, you would need to have a certain level of seniority in the office.""Performance is an issue when sharing a large number of files in a single folder.""The website could be improved. Sometimes I try to login and the website has issues, I can't retrieve my documents.""I would advice not storage sensitive information since it could be prone to hacking.""The user interface could be a little more intuitive.""The file structure insight could be made more flexible like for creating more flexible folders.""The initial setup is not easy.""No one gets an alert when files are deleted."

More Microsoft OneDrive Cons →

Its installation process is difficult and can be made easier.""Due to very limited use in the industry, vendor and contract support are hard to find.""The product could improve its scalability.""Support could be enhanced. The first line of support consists of individuals who lack experience with some key aspects. When you create a support ticket, the time to resolve the issue may be prolonged because the first person may not understand the system or the solution.""The stability of the solution is an area of concern where improvements can be made."

More OpenText Content Manager Cons →

"It will fully use your system resources.""I would like it to be more compliant with global regulations. There are certain features which could be included that currently are not there, such as compliance and record management capabilities.""The product could be improved in a lot of way. It is so frustrating to get things to work as advertised.""The product must provide more automation.""During uptime under our network, it is hard to find info when content is hefty.""Flexibility and extensibility, above everything, could be improved.""Too many versions being released in a short time period. Too much time being devoted to migration planning.""The management of the product/back-end is complex."

    Comparison Review

At Mediacurrent we often get requests to compare Drupal to other platforms used for intranet sites and social business platforms (like https://dev.twitter.com/ for example). This is often referred to as “Social Business Software”, which has grown in popularity in recent years. I decided to do a round-up of a couple of the more well known platforms and compare their products to Drupal. In this roundup we will be comparing Jive, Sharepoint and Drupal Commons. Drupal Commons is a popular distribution created by Acquia to compete with some of these other proprietary platforms. There are many other options out there, commercial and otherwise, to compare with Drupal but I want to focus on Jive and Sharepoint for a couple of reasons. I chose Jive because it is one of the leading competitors in this space in respect to market share. Next, I chose Sharepoint because I have some history with Sharepoint. This experience dates back to when I built www.adhe.edu with Sharepoint 2007 a few years ago. I subsequently wrote this blog entry about my experience shortly after joining Mediacurrent. This roundup will also act as a refresher for those who read my original “Drupal vs. Sharepoint” blog. Yammer, which was recently bought by Microsoft and is the tool we currently use for office communication will also get some mentions throughout this article. As I went through and tested each of these tools I used three main criteria in my evaluation Cost Ability to Customize Overall features… Read more →
