Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It is easy to set up and is stable. It is scalable as well, depending on the model.""It performs quite well.""For our use case, it was scalable. There were at least 25 end users using this solution from remote locations. And once the connection was established, there weren't any complaints.""The session monitoring capability is good.""Just creating that gateway to the storefront for Citrix is the most valuable aspect of the solution for us.""The solution is scalable and can go from a very small deployment to handling 10,000 transactions a second.""The most valuable feature is that it is secure.""What I find most valuable about this solution, is that it runs seamlessly."

"The value and impact of using F5 BIG-IP LTM for application delivery control in our organization are significant.""In my team, we work in a very agile environment and the solutions from BIG-IP, including BIG-IP WAF, suit us well when developing and serving our applications.""It has helped a lot to protect our organization from external attacks, especially XSS or XSRF types of attacks.""We like the capability to combine the content switching with the intrusion prevention and adding the security roles, so we can expose certain sub-pieces outside without exposing everything.""The most valuable features are DNS, APM, and ASM. Additionally, it is easy to use and you have a lot of flexibility to use the solution within a network.""It improves the overall performance of applications by decreasing the burden on servers associated with managing and maintaining applications and network sessions, as well as by performing application-specific tasks.""The support from F5 BIG-IP LTM is good.""Routing and load balancing are its most valuable features."

"The most valuable feature of this solution is they have IT consultants that know SonicWall.""The solution is reliable and has good overall performance.""What I like best about SonicWall SMA is the relationship between its features and its price, because the solution is both affordable and functional.""I think they ask for a fair price.""I am very satisfied with the technical support.""It is faster than other security options when using remote connections.""Secure Mobile Access (SMA) is easy to configure and the deployment is straightforward. However, this is mostly because of the AWS setup.""This solution has many options for remote desktop and access."

Cons
"Sometimes the input-output has issues.""We are currently looking at automation. It would be good if there is some way to automate it in a fast way. It should be easy to automate. It also has some security issues.""The initial setup is not straightforward.""The solution can be a bit pricey.""The initial setup is very complex.""I'd like to see support for reverse proxy and more security features.""Technical support could be improved.""Its interface could be made a lot easier. It is very kludgy."

More Citrix Gateway Cons →

"Improvements should enable customers to build a tailor-made solution in the future through a service portal.""This is a very expensive solution.""Logging is a bit of a problem. Logging and monitoring are only in plain text. You have to search and you have to know what you are searching for to find anything. So of course, monitoring and getting alerts for abnormal situations is hard. There are no tools for monitoring and alerts""It requires a particular skill or training before being able to manage it.""Technical support could be improved.""In terms of pricing, it could be more competitive.""Lacking in free training to help users understand the product more, so they would know how to correctly use it. Like other vendors and their products, becoming more proactive is an area for improvement.""F5 BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager is expensive. Pricing needs to be improved."

More F5 BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM) Cons →

"SonicWall SMA is difficult to use and it does not provide easy access to different parts of the network.""The solution could integrate better with other platforms.""The only thing that they could try to improve is the support for enterprise customers. Normally enterprises and SMBs can create a ticket, but for enterprises, SonicWall SMA needs to provide a global view, and this is what's currently missing. It's not even a question of timing. It's a question of the global vision because currently, it's lacking. They concentrate on the topic, but not on the means and not on the global picture. In most cases, there's something wrong with the integration of SonicWall SMA with other products, so that could also be improved.""This is an expensive solution and I think that the price could be improved.""The problem is that when combined with what the client already has, there are two different logins and two different management systems, and these should be consolidated into a single interface.""The product itself is very good, but Dell needs to work on product visibility in their advertising.""The product's technical support services could be improved.""SonicWall's reporting isn't good. Reports should be part of a data plan. The login mechanism should be improved. It would be helpful if the client could use an agent to log in. An agent-server model would improve the performance of the RDB, which consumes a lot of bandwidth."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Usually with Citrix the issue is the pricing, especially for the African region. We believe it's really expensive."
  • "Pricing is very high if you do a comparison with what is available in the market."
  • "I believe the pricing is comparable to SaaS"
  • "It costs about 4,000 a year."
  • "The price could be lower."
  • "There is a license to use Citrix Gateway and it is less expensive to use when compared to other solutions."
  • "There are two or three different models, but you can actually have a CapEx where you purchase the unit outright and then there's a yearly maintenance cost on top for years two and three, and four, or you can actually do a subscription purchase through Citrix cloud and you pay on a monthly basis, or you can have a three-year subscription contract as well. I give the solution a six out of ten for its cost."
  • "The solution has a yearly licensing fee."

  • "Though functionality is high, its cost can be considered slightly higher than its competitors."
  • "The licensing pricing seems relatively easy enough to get your head around. I would advise anyone to ensure that you have a conversation with an F5 consultant before purchasing, as you would with most products."
  • "Take a look at the modules that you are going to use. Look into the best bundles for them."
  • "The only area that has room for improvement would be pricing, so its competitors do not have a say."
  • "If your IT budget is good, go for it."
  • "This product is costly from a licensing perspective considering its competitors."
  • "Check other vendors like Cisco, Citrix or A10 Networks. There are plenty in the market with which you can achieve same thing."
  • "Great product for the money. But they can get really expensive, so get what meets your needs."
  • More F5 BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM) Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "The cost of the licensing is based on the maximum number of concurrent users, and it costs a lot to add them."
  • "I don't know about the pricing of the SSL-VPN box. I know the SSL-VPN software is free. Global VPN client, by comparison, is licensed for around $150 or something like that. But the SSL-VPN software is free. It is already built-in with the box."
  • "Our licenses are stackable and can be anywhere from five users to a million users."
  • "This solution is priced well and we currently have the maximum number of licenses allowed."
  • "All the costs are included in a bundled license."
  • "The platform has medium pricing."
