We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The user interface is easy to work with.""Power BI is more powerful than other tools because it is new for us. Each new version has more capabilities, and we're expecting AI and ML features in the next version.""With the out-of-the-box Data Platform and Business Intelligence ecosystem, you get the entire platform with a single license.""The most valuable feature is shareability, where we can publish work to the cloud and share it with team members.""There was a lot of manual work involved with Excel, whereas once we moved on to Microsoft Power BI, it was a cleaner dashboard and it was faster too.""Technical support has been great.""We've used Microsoft BI for the general use cases around reporting and dashboarding.""The most valuable features of Microsoft BI are the variety of possibilities to connect to various data sources. The visualizations are easily done, have useful rollover functions, and there are continuous updates being made to the system. You can benefit from the various improvements."

"It has been the best tool to work with from a self-service point of view.""The most valuable feature is the aggregation function.""This service is the combination of very pleasant, interactive graphical visualizations along with the application of advanced statistical models (in some cases).""The Web Editing capabilities allow us to grant end users enough capabilities for them to do self-serve discovery without the added cost of needing to get everyone desktop licenses.""It is an excellent tool for data capture, processing, and visualization.""Tableau's visualization features let you present information insights quickly and practically. So it's something which I prefer with Tableau. In terms of reporting, I have to point out the sheer quality and function of the Tableau server, but the first impression is that it's a great visualization tool.""The solution helps users create dashboards and analyze data without relying on IT or product teams.""It is easy to adapt visualizers to have interactive conversations among decision-makers."

"I am looking forward to testing their full graphics that are available, as they looked very interesting in the demo.""Great capability, performance, flexibility, visuals, and the solution is also very cost effective."

Cons
"It is not yet ready for enterprises. For a big enterprise data model, it is not so stable, and it also doesn't scale so well.""We have used other solutions and the reporting functionality should be user-friendly and have a drag and drop feature should be available, but Microsoft BI doesn't have these features. When you are creating reports and you can't change as a user. Every time you need one developer or one technical person to make the changes.""One thing I would like to have is the scripting language, as they already have within Excel. It's already within a Microsoft business product, because Excel is the number one business product out there. So it would be nice to have the scripting capability in order to automate certain processes.""Microsoft BI comes under pressure when there is a lot of data to be crunched. It gets slower and slower, and the functionality becomes a bit of a problem. The performance goes down with data being fed into the system. The infrastructure requirement also increases if you have to increase the performance. This is the area that can be improved in my opinion. Initially, the product is good, but over the years, when data gets accumulated, it becomes a problem unless the old data is kind of archived and is no longer shown on the visualization. It has a feature by using which a user can query for a report through simple questions to a bot. So, if I want to look for the customer share of revenue by geography, I just simply state that in the chatbot. If I wanted it in a pie chart, then you say, "Please show it to me in a pie chart." It comes out well for basic charts. This feature should be improvised more so that people can very quickly get customized reports on the go.""It would be better if they had some video tutorials. Most people from an Excel background may struggle with measures in Microsoft BI.""Microsoft Power BI was born native on the cloud, however, it's quite difficult when it has to connect to on-premise data sources.""Anything they can do to improve enterprise collaboration is going to help people get set up and utilize the solution.""At times, I feel that the system needs improvement in single sign-on, especially for the on-premises side of the tool."

More Microsoft Power BI Cons →

"Its price should be improved. Its price is much higher than Power BI and QlikView. Programming is not easy on Tableau. For programming, you have to have a separate model. They should include programming directly on the web portion of the Tableau desktop so that people can write Python or JavaScript code for customizations instead of using a different model. Currently, Tableau Data Prep is a separate application that you have to purchase. It would be helpful if they can include Tableau Data Prep and programming languages such as R, Python in the next version. Tableau Public, which is a community version, doesn't allow you to save your work on your desktop. They should allow it. Currently, you can only upload it in the community.""The setup was easy but we are having some problems with the configuration that is taking a long time. We have done some initial tests and some of the delays could be from bandwidth issues. However, the whole installation process should be simplified.""When you're working on a dashboard, you can't select multiple components at a time and align them, so you have to go one by one. This is very cumbersome.""If they could add global filters in the stories, more chart types, and default colours, it would help.""An advanced type of visualization is a bit tricky to create. It has something called a Calculated field, and that sometimes gets a bit difficult to use when you want to create an advanced type of visualization.""At the organizational level, increasing the servers' capabilities to support us as an enterprise tool.""In the next release, there should be more information describing each chart because users have a difficult time telling them apart. They should also include the animations/videos, similar to Power BI.""I would like Tableau to handle geospatial data better in terms of multiple layers and shapefiles."

"There should be a better or an easier way to establish that connection to external sources.""Would like the ability to be able to benchmark."

  • "Best advice on pricing is to anticipate the desire for more licenses once the results of this product are acknowledged in other parts of your company."
  • "Paying for users you never setup or buying expensive desktop licenses for users who can solve their users with web editing on the server are the two biggest expenses."

  • "The cost is high."
  • "Deployment of dashboards to viewers and unit supervisors can be prohibitively expensive."

  • "14,000 Pounds per year for licensing."
